| Ferol, Debtor of Torm07-07-07, 05:52 AM | My 3rd level ranger just got access to buy a War Mastiff (super beefy riding dog from Heroes of Battle) from a mod I was in tonight. Soon my ranger will be able to take an animal companion. Is having access to the animal enough to qualify it as an animal companion/special mount or does that take more campaign documentation? If so, who do I write to? Lastly, if I am able to take the dog as a animal companion what kind of level penalty would apply to it (druid level -0 or druid level -4)? Thanks for the infos. -Ferol |

| kegdrainer07-07-07, 12:06 PM | Looking at the write up in HoB, there is nothing saying that it can be treated as an animal companion or a special mount. I would guess that unless the AR says it can be treated that way, then the answer is NO. |

Thanks for the infos. -Ferol it is a three HD creature so SHOULD at least be an animal companion of the second tier. but if the AR doesn't grant it as animal companion and gives the adjustment you are out of luck. ciao martin m. |
| Madfox1107-09-07, 09:39 AM | Lupo and Kegdrainer are correct: unless the AR specifically mentions it can be taken as an animal compenion it cannot. Pieter Sleijpen RPGA Living Greyhawk Circle Member The Splintered Suns |
