Restricting the Warmage of his basic signature spells when Clerics can cast Dominion Spells not in the core books (pg. 32 Living Grey Hawk 4.2 FAQ questions block) does not make sense. The Lesser orb spells are the ones in particular I am referring to. They are "Core" spells usable by any character that can access them. I bring this up because the flexibility with the lesser Orb spells is what makes the Warmage a tactical member otherwise his list is limited to practically Magic Missile. By the time my warmage got to use his Lesser Orb Spells, they were 2d8 (1d8 per 2/lvls), an exception was made for the Warmage in regards to his access to specialized fests (footnote 1 PG. 34 LG4.2), why not his signature spells? |

All I can tell you is that *all* characters are restricted from taking non-core feats, spells, etc. until they reach 3rd level. Clerical domain spells are the specific exception that campaign administration has been willing to make. This just happens to hurt low-level Warmages, because it takes away a good chunk of their 1st-level spell list until they reach 3rd level. This question's come up before, and the Circle doesn't seem to believe that this restriction overly hurts the Warmage. (Why they gave Warmages access to non-core feats immediately, but not spells, I really don't know.) |

They didn't...The restricted feats that are accessible by the Warmage have a minimum prerequisite of 7 levels of warmage and are gained as bonus feats as a class feature...They can't have any of it before 3rd level... |

The only spells you'll use on the warmage list before level 3 are going to be magic missile and acid splash, with maybe an occasional use of ray of frost, light or truestrike for a particular target. Burning hands might be used to ignite oil somebody else tossed perhaps. These spells combined with the warmage edge are every bit as effective as all the "orb" spells you miss out on. Your warmage doesn't want to use Fist of Stone, trust me, he really doesn't, it leads to dead warmages. Hail of stones is mildly useful - medium range and tiny area but full round casting time limits it - but far more useful at level 3-5 than at level 1-2, because it is d4/level. You really don't miss the non-PHB spells. The character works as well as it works, using magic missiles on targets with cover/melee/prone modifiers, and acid splash on targets out in the open and damn near nothing else. The difference between, say, acid orb and magic missile is 1 point of damage and a much greater chance that the spell will just miss. |
