This is a Build i came up with when thinking up a second LG char for when i run out of TUs with my first guy (Sorc5/Marshal1/Ruthar2) Just wanted to go away from the caster/support role to a more inyoface guy. Just looking for some input and critisizm on this. Suggestions and such would be nice.
EDIT: can i get this moved to the character sub-section.. i didnt relize there was one when i first posted ><

havent got time to review all the PrC's so you may have this covered but the mount seems to be a concern .. do any of these classes give you a better mount ? if not .. throw in a beastmaster level and try and get natural bond form somewhere (limited feat) for a tiger mount

Well what size is the tiger? i choose to keep the war pony because of its ability to fit in dungeons and such without a pentaly like a normal horse or a Dire bat like some might suggest.

even if you go for an improved small mount, thats a better option.

the point is, if ur a lvl 15 cavalier outrider with all your feats invested into being hardcore and mounted, and then the npc archer roles initiative on you, shoots your horse once, and you become mountless.

why kill an ac 35 240 hp charging monster halfing super killer when you can should its horse dead for 20something dmg, and noble it completely?

thats only in melee, its only the first attack, it dosent stop ranged attacks, and it dosent stop spells.

a laughable scroll of fireball that does 6d6 at lvl 14 wont mean crap to the rest of the party, but ur mount will get fried, and ul be walking.

Ill agree with u with the fireball but Mounted combat is the first time the mount is hit in any way.. and its ac for the rest of the round becomes the ride check.

"Once per round when your mount is hit in combat, you may attempt a Ride check (as a reaction) to negate the hit. The hit is negated if your Ride check result is greater than the opponent’s attack roll. (Essentially, the Ride check result becomes the mount’s Armor Class if it’s higher than the mount’s regular AC.)" -SRD

It's only the first hit, and it's arguable if you can negate ranged attacks, though based on the wording I would say you can. You cannot negate targeted spells, at least I don't think so. ETV on that one. The ride check definitely does not become the new AC of the mount for the rest of the round, however. And if it's, say, getting hit by scorching rays, even if it does count for spells, it'd only count for the first ray.

its not for spells or ranged attacks. at least, thats what i thought. if someone could find the important missing quote i need from somewhere important to back me up, thatd be nice.

What does in combat mean, that's the key question. Is it in melee, or in combat rounds?

i believe in this case it means in melee. since theoretically you could initate combat rounds yourself at any time, which would be kind of silly.

melee or ranged .. doesnt matter its one avoided attack per round .. and thats not one from each attacker either .. its one per round

the build is ok .. you just need to think more about the mount

especially if its otherwise a 2HD war dog

Beastmaster and nat bond will let you get an animal companian as a level 7 druid which means you can choose a large mount like a tiger or get a HD and AC boosted medium mount.

There are other ways to boost your mount including getting buffs from mages.

I probably wouldn't put so many points into strength but, generally, I won't start with an 18 in any stat unless I'm getting a bonus to it. However, for this build, I'm not sure where I'd put those points. More con is always nice. More int so that you can use handle animal those times you're not riding your companion. More wisdom for a better will save? More dex to use with combat reflexes (not sure if that feat even works well with this character)? Cavalier will not improve your companion, BTW, if you had overlooked that.

Actually, I don't think this combination will even work. Halfing Outrider does give you a mount. But, it's not an animal companion or paladin special mount so you don't qualify for Wild Plains Outrider. You would need more levels of ranger, a level of druid or a level of beastmaster before going into WPO (assuming you don't want to go paladin).

My halfling outrider build was Druid 3/Fighter 2/Beastmaster 1/Hospitaler 1/Halfling outrider 8. It could easily be changed to incorporate Wild Plains outrider.

Hmm read over what ya said and made a newer build (keeping the stats the same tho)

I would make the following changes, to optimize skill points, and to get the correct feat tree:

Druid 1: Mounted Combat
Fighter 1: Power Attack
Fighter 2: Ride-by Attack, Skill Focus (Handle Animal)
Druid 2: ~ Str +1
Ranger 1: Track(Bonus)
BeastMaster 1: Spirited Charge
Wild Plains Outrider 1: ~
Wild Plains Outrider 2: Str +1
Wild Plains Outrider 3: Mounted Archery
Halfling Outrider 1: ~
Halfling Outrider 2: ~
Halfling Outrider 3: Weapon Focus (Lance) Str +1
Cavilier 1-3: ~
