The current LGCS says that Death is a core domain, so characters CAN take it. What gives? There's the deities document 2.0 - Wee Jas has the option of the Repose domain, not the Death domain. Death really should have a name along the lines of Murder domain, and Repose Death, but... |
| GreatSiron09-06-06, 04:10 PM | Well that kinda answers my question, I think. So can I take the Death domain or not? And what book is the Repose domain? |
| kenobi6509-06-06, 04:30 PM | So can I take the Death domain or not? Not as a cleric of Wee Jas; the Deities document doesn't give it as a domain for her. In fact, of the 13 deities to which that document assigns the Death domain (see p. 201), not a single one can be worshipped by PCs. And what book is the Repose domain? Sandstorm; this is noted in the Deities document, on p. 3, and that's what the "(Ss)" after "Repose" in Wee Jas' entry in that document means. |
| GreatSiron09-06-06, 04:47 PM | Well that's not fair. What does the Repose domain do anyway? Can't be as cool as being able to death effect people at lvl 1. If anyone can't tell, I'm in a jerky mood today. Chances are, if I casted anything from the death domain except cause fear and death ward, my character would probably be taken. (I live in the yeomanry, where dark magic is a big no-no.) |
| Oogar09-06-06, 05:00 PM | It looks like the Granted ability is the same for Death and Repose. |
| GreatSiron09-07-06, 03:33 PM | It looks like the Granted ability is the same for Death and Repose. Well I guess that's cool then. I guess I'll go borrow a copy of Sandstorm and see what spells Repose has to offer. I wanted to create a cleric of Wee Jas that empasizes her death aspect, which means I probably won't be the most reliable healer. Anything, like a feat or something, that I can take to offset that? Or failing that, anyone got any other cool ideas, like prestige classes or something? |

Repose domain is descriped on WOTC page: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/glossary&term=Glossary_dnd_Reposedomain&alpha=R If you need a nice sounding feat, go for 'Profane Boost' to cast automatic maximised inflict spells. Local player uses it and seems to work fine. For healing you can probably find an access to wand of CLW and if you are lucky, even an access to 'unhappy stick' which of course is wand of inclict wounds since Profane Boost should apply to that one as well. With leadership feat you can even get an apprentice to use profane boost while your cleric concentrates of showing the power of the Stern Lady to your enemies. I grant that it is not the most efficient build but it sure is fun :) Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |
| GreatSiron09-07-06, 07:57 PM | Keep in mind that LN clerics of Wee Jas must spontaneously inflict, and may not spontaneously cure. It's a big drawback. David I am well aware of that fact, which is why I am worried about my capactiy to heal my fellows. Every other cleric can ditch spells to heal, but I can't, and it might decrease my usefulness. Also, I looked a both the repose domain on the site, and the one it Sandstorm, and they conflict. On the site, the first lvl spell is Hide From Undeath, while Sandstorm has Deathwatch as the first spell. There was another one too, but I forgot which one. Which domain listing is correct? Any suggestions for first lvl feats for my Wee Jas cleric, and maybe what other domain to go with it (I was thinking either Domination or Magic). |

Or failing that, anyone got any other cool ideas, like prestige classes or something? First feat I would recommend to offset your healing is Craft Wonderous Items. Memorize a single lesser vigor spell and craft a dozen or more pearl 1s. You now have the party's downtime healing taken careof without an impact on your spells. Second there is a feat in complete divine that will allow you to convert spells into cures a number of times per day equal to your wisdom bonus. Third there is also a feat in complete divine that can let you burn a turn attempt to give fast healing 3 to EVERY living creature within 60 feet as a full round action for a number of rounds that is CHA based. I would suggest the first two for you as a solution. The first will handle your downtime healing for the party (and I would recommend to almost any cleric). The second will let you deliver that in combat we have to have it spell right now. The third can work if you are built for it, but craft is so much more useful and can address the same areas that this is a pricy option. Couple those two with memorizing insignia of healing as needed for some 3rd level slots and the party should never know that you're not a healer. Plan out your character's feats and figure out atleast one nonstandard way to burn turns. I would suggest divine spell power as the default, but depending on your domains domain spontaneity is a nice one as well. The others can work for you if your very specific needs coincide with theirs. -James |

Sacred Healing requires the ability to turn (not rebuke) undead. Spontaneous Healer would work, but crafting wands of lesser vigor or scribing scolls would also work. |
| zoinks6909-13-06, 04:52 AM | Forced to spontaneous inflict while as the same time rebuking/commanding undead? Not a bad tradeoff, though I'll admit that either you don't see undead or they've been so juiced that you'll never nab them (at the mid to high levels). I put my seal of approval on playing the game for fun. If the other players are worried about healing, have them loan you pearls of power (to crack off Lesser Vigor or CLW, ask them which they prefer but only prepare one) or suck it up and deal. Maybe it's just their time to die, after all :D |

| MichaelH8509-13-06, 07:06 PM | If you're going to play a cleric of Wee Jas, something seems odd about using most of your feats to counter the rebuke/inflict aspect of your faith. Perhaps you should pick feats that enhance your idea of what your character would be or do as a cleric of Wee Jas. Who knows, you might come up with a memorable character, even if he/she is a little creepy. I have a 5th level Suel cleric of Wee Jas that I love to play. I picked feats that I thought would make the character more fun and unique, not to mention creepy. My loose theme for my feat selection was control over (un)death and/or magic. I started with Endurance and Die Hard. Both have come in handy numerous times. I got access to Enduring Life (Libris Mortis) so I took that at 3rd level. I have not decided what my level 6 feat will be yet, but I plan to continue the theme. It's been fun so far. Oh yeah, I even like to use Wee Jas' favored weapon, the dagger, as my main weapon. Not the most min/maxed choice, but I have seen more than my share of criticals with it, including one while using Flame of Faith. I guess I am trying to say that you should pick feats that help you build a cool, fun, memorable character rather than trying to be something you are not. |
| Iswald09-13-06, 11:25 PM | Meh, healing's overrated when you can cast Delay Death. Just make sure someone (or everyone?) has Diehard. :D Diehard is not the feat to combine with delay death, Boar's Ferocity is. Too bad it only works for druids. |
| paigeoliver09-14-06, 12:15 AM | I agree with the other poster. A cleric of Wee Jas just isn't THAT KIND of cleric. They are like a druid or a bard, they CAN cast healing spells, but it isn't their primary function. |

Who knows, you might come up with a memorable character, even if he/she is a little creepy. Out of combat healing can be handled with Lesser Vigor and Pearls. In combat healing can be handle by the appropriate prepared Cures. If you are the only Cleric, then you probably want to prepare more Cure spells than otherwise, unless your party is OK with no healing. LG Clerics have limited choices for level 1 feats. If you are human, you might consider Spell Focus/Greater Spell Focus in Necromancy. There are several effective Necromancy spells including all Inflicts. |
| Luis_Dragunov02-12-07, 07:01 PM | If you just want your cleric to be the healbox of the party, you best pick a deity with the Healing domain. Wee Jas is the patron goddess of Death and Magic - neither of the two concepts particularly known as contributing to your health. Also, I don't see why you can't pick the Death domain. If your DM decides that Wee Jas has the Law, Death and Magic domains instead of Law, Magic and Repose, go for it. |

The Death domain is not available to clerics of Wee Jas in the Living Greyhawk campaign. This is not for your DM to decide, it is a decision of the Circle. A requirement of the rpga providing free game content is that you abide by their rules when you play (something they are well within their right to do). If you deliberately flaunt those rules, you deserve to have your membership revoked. If you want to play a cleric of Wee Jas with the Death domain, simply play a home game. Joe |
