| LGMoses01-16-07, 02:05 PM | Of all of the schools which is your favorite and why? |
| Randall Montgomery01-16-07, 02:18 PM | Evocation, baby! Who dosen't love a good explosion every now and then? Although, Telekenisis and Disintigrate are making Transmutation look better and better to me. Coincidentally, these are also the two schools my wizard has Spell Focus in. ;) |
| Japangirl01-16-07, 02:20 PM | Probably conjuration. Web, Glitterdust, Grease, Orbs, Arc Lightning, all no SR and stupid amounts of both battlefield control and damage. |
| kenobi6501-16-07, 02:58 PM | Hogwarts. Those English school uniforms are old-school cool. What? That wasn't the question? :D |
| LachlarlanIII01-16-07, 03:00 PM | Conjuration for most of the reasons Japangirl stated. Plus I like Summons. Illusion would probably be second. Lots of Save-or-Die spells in there. |
| gomeztoo01-16-07, 03:54 PM | Enchantment, because it forces you to think and interact with the NPCs/monsters. And, well, it WOULD be cool if that Remorhaz is your little pet if only for a little while... |
| Lomiat01-16-07, 04:45 PM | Enchantment and Divination, which, both, unfortunately suffer a lot in the LG-format. It takes a good deal of work on the DM's part--and a good deal of cooperation from other party members--to allow such spells to get their proper impact, so they're pretty much dead weight vs. what they could be. |
| jstorrie01-16-07, 05:01 PM | Abjuration, because I play my wizards with finesse. |
| kenobi6501-16-07, 05:23 PM | Abjuration, because I play my wizards with finesse. They must have beautiful, shiny hair. "Sometimes you need a little Finesse, sometimes you need a lot." (Sorry...I used to work on Finesse hair care products. :-D ) |
| _m_01-16-07, 07:04 PM | Abjuration, because I play my wizards with finesse. ilusion... so you THINK i play my wizards with finesse. |
| Genghis Cohen01-16-07, 07:24 PM | Probably conjuration. Web, Glitterdust, Grease, Orbs, Arc Lightning, all no SR and stupid amounts of both battlefield control and damage. What she said. Summoning too. |
| cycloptic_squirrel01-16-07, 08:00 PM | Transmutation. Need to be just a little closer - swift exp. retreat. Need to get up on that ledge - swift fly. Buff yourself - alter self. Buff anyone else - enlarge person, haste, polymorph, any million of other options. And mage hand is fun. |
| Shieldhart9101-16-07, 08:42 PM | Conjuration is just the best for me in so many ways: so you have Grease, Mage Armor, Fog Cloud, Glitterdust, Web, Black Tentacles, Dimension Door, Solid Fog, Teleport, Wall of Stone, all of those summoning spells...ah, it just tickles me pink with all of the possibilities, really ;) |
| _m_01-16-07, 08:59 PM | i like weird / phantansal killer. ... alot. |
| ShinAkuma201-16-07, 10:52 PM | i like weird / phantansal killer. ... alot. Who doesn't? :ayyyy!: |
| _m_01-16-07, 10:59 PM | Who doesn't? :ayyyy!: unluck, + phantasmal killer. *grin* |
| Japangirl01-16-07, 11:12 PM | My wizard even knows unluck now! I just learned it :D . Now to level to the point of getting fourth level spells . . . and surviving RHoD . . . wish me luck! |
| Lomiat01-16-07, 11:37 PM | Okay, seriously folks, what's the deal with Unluck? I keep hearing people mention it like it's a great spell, but the way I see it, Unluck's a 4th-level Will save that increases the chances another spell will work. But couldn't we just hit something with a 4th-level Will save--or any other 4th-level spell for that matter--that would end the combat? Fear. Evard's. Dragon Breath. Charm Monster. Otiluke's. Etc. Do people like Unluck because D&D is a dice game, and we like to make someone roll twice the number of dice? Or is there a real reason that I've failed to grasp? How do people think this compares to Enervation which offers no save, but requires a touch attack--doesn't force rerolls, but applies a penalty of 1-4 to nearly every roll? (The best I've heard was from a player whose wizard lacked direct damage capability and was, therefore, willing to spend a round to improve his chances with a Phantasmal Killer, since it requries 2 saves.) |
| _metz_01-16-07, 11:41 PM | Unluck is a third level now and I have seen it save a hell of a lot of people's lives. I'll leave it to m to describe how Alvin stopped me from TPKing the party by a simple unluck... Btw my favourite school is probably Transmutation, cos its cool, tho I have a soft spot for enchantments, an army of dominated minions and quickened suggestions etc are always fun. |
| jhorred01-16-07, 11:53 PM | Evocation - Things that go boom! :D |
| _m_01-17-07, 12:01 AM | My wizard even knows unluck now! I just learned it :D . Now to level to the point of getting fourth level spells . . . and surviving RHoD . . . wish me luck! good luck! as for unluck, its a 3rd, not a 4th. secondly: take for example, a multi attack big strong bad guy. roles initiative, beats all but alvin. alvin castst unluck. the monster then breath weapons... and has to reroll every single roll. the original damage would have killed almost the whole party. and i did just a second ago say unluck + phantasmal kill rocks. sure, it takes an extra round, but what if ur fighting a mosnter with 500 hp, dr, regeneration and HUGE ac. 2 turns, it fails its save, its dead. |
| Japangirl01-17-07, 12:03 AM | So you've seen uber-advanced war trolls, m? Please tell me you haven't . . . I'm scared of those. |
| _m_01-17-07, 12:11 AM | So you've seen uber-advanced war trolls, m? Please tell me you haven't . . . I'm scared of those. umber hulk red dragon cross breed for the breath thing... and yeah, i think i saw a very elite uber advanced war troll once... it might have just been wes on a bad day though... *grin* just kidding *smile* |
| clannagh01-17-07, 12:15 AM | So you've seen uber-advanced war trolls, m? Please tell me you haven't . . . I'm scared of those. if they had an undead template as well I know who wrote the mod :) |
| Japangirl01-17-07, 12:18 AM | It wasn't Britt. He just likes demon-dead with spell-likes and quickened spell-likes at will who fly and have a permanent blur effect and have really high AC. Thank goodness we had a ranger with a +1 holy bow, Woodland Archer, evasion, and favored enemies Evil Outsider and Undead. |
| _m_01-17-07, 12:49 AM | It wasn't Britt. He just likes demon-dead with spell-likes and quickened spell-likes at will who fly and have a permanent blur effect and have really high AC. lol, i playtested against something like that. |
| rockondon01-17-07, 02:37 AM | whichever one casts fireball, thats my fav |
| Randall Montgomery01-17-07, 11:53 AM | Wow, lot of votes for conjuration. I really like the school, and have many spells in my spellbook. It would have been my second choice for Spell Focus over transmutation, but it's kinda pointless since pretty much none of the spells have saving throws. Still, an Evard's does set things up quite nicely for an empowered fireball or cone of cold. :D |
| SYB01-17-07, 12:58 PM | What? No necromancy love? Ray of Enfeeblement has to be one of the best spells in the game. And Vampiric Touch is a thing of beauty. -SYB |
| amnuxoll01-17-07, 03:59 PM | Illusion. Nothing stretches your imagination quite like playing an illusionist. |
| Bob_the_Theurge01-17-07, 05:00 PM | Favorite? In 2nd edition, it was Evocation, hands down. In 3.5, Evocation's been nerfed to oblivion; all the really great spells it had are supplanted by Conjuration, thanks to Conjuration-happy "game designers" who started giving Conjuration the direct-damage spells. |
| Mortepierre01-17-07, 05:25 PM | Conjuration for the summoning spells because it takes a wizard with brain to really make those shine. Grease isn't bad either when you have a sneaking friend :D |
