| lostpike04-20-07, 05:24 PM | I figured this might help with people building out of region characters if they knew other prestige classes were available to them. |
| Simpi04-21-07, 01:09 AM | This of course assuming that MOs allow out-of-region joining. For example, all of our MOs require PC to be resident and that joining is only possible before/after a module taking place in the region. Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |
| King Kashue04-21-07, 01:58 AM | A decent number of regions seem to have one or two meta-orgs that are open to out-of-region PCs... |
| pedr04-21-07, 07:28 AM | I understand requiring PCs to be resident in the region (for many MOs, anyway). In most cases this will have an IC reason. Those MOs without an IC reason to limit membership ought, in my opinion, to be completely open. What is the justification for requiring the play of a regional adventure before joining? I can't see any justification except seeking to restrict participation in the region to those who are physically present. Apart from being an additional barrier for triad members and others who eschew playing regionals (Onnwal, for instance, has a Regional Design Team who may not play regionals) it also makes the campaign even 'smaller'. I understand that there was a problem with 'cherry picking'. This has, I thought, been reduced with the new MO rules, and ought to be limited by a residency requirement. |
| blood_kite04-21-07, 09:55 AM | Well in Nyrond you can be a Daggerspell Mage or Shaper if you join a monastic order, Wayfarer Guide if you're a gnome (or halfling or dwarf with Triad approval), Bonded Summoner if you are a divine caster, and Wild Mage if you have levels in non-arcane casting wilderness classes. I don't recall anyone from Nyrond ever being able to provide even semi-logical reasons for the placement of some of our Prestige Class access. |

If I decide if my character has moved to or is from region X he then should be eligible for everything for Region X. A triad isnt allowed to make two classes of citizens in their region. One for people living in region X with a character there and ones not living in region X with characters there. |

A triad isnt allowed to make two classes of citizens in their region. One for people living in region X with a character there and ones not living in region X with characters there. But they're not making two classes of citizens on that basis - they're making it on the basis of actually having played a regional mod. You don't have to have lived in Canada to play a Ket mod as an example. I played one at GenCon Indy. |
| jstorrie04-21-07, 04:12 PM | Zeif: Dread Pirate Invisible Blade Skullclan Hunter Mage of the Arcane Order Bonded Summoner Nightsong Enforcer Spymaster Church Inquisitor Shadowbane Inquisitor Contemplative Reaping Mauler Elemental Savant That's them, as far as I can remember. You might be able to play some Zeif mods at CampCon soon? I'm not sure. |

It makes no reference that the last module you have to play during the year before the beginning of the year has to be from that region before you can transfer your character to being from there or starting a character from a region. It makes no reference that the last module you have to play during the year before the beginning of the year has to be from that region before you can transfer your character to being from there or starting a character from a region. David You're misunderstanding what Sampo said. He's saying that Naerie meta-orgs have two prereqs for access: first, that you must have home region: Naerie (as you said, you can change to Naerie at the start of the year), and second, that you must join immediately before or after a Naerie regional. The two requirements are unrelated, but both must be met. |
| King Kashue04-21-07, 09:21 PM | What I am trying to say is that there is no such rule as the LGCS does not state this. As stated by Copper Wyrmling, you're misunderstanding the rules. The LGCS are not the only rules for the campaign. As far as Meta-organizations go, each Triad makes the rules for their region (within a general framework provided by the Circle). In Naerie, they've made actually playing an in-region mod a requirement of all their meta-orgs...That's something completely within their discretion and it's the rules for that region. |
| zigspatty04-22-07, 12:11 AM | Each region has its own requirements to join their metaorgs. Most metaorgs seem to require either residency or that the PC has played a regional mod (sometimes both!). There are a few metaorgs without such requirements; usually there is good in-character reasoning for the group to be receptive to outsiders. Many metaorg benefits are accessible only during (circumstance bonuses) or after (mundane items) a regional mod, so there is little value in joining a metaorg from a region in which the character will never play (beyond some potential roleplay consideration). Some metaorgs also require play of regional mods to advance within the ranks of the metaorg. (It's very difficult to collect the influence points /commendations /favors without playing mods which offer them!) The number of NONC prestige classes that each region can offer via metaorgs is quite limited, and most regions seem to try to ensure that their offerings are appropriate to the groups which offer them. All but one PoU metaorg requires residency to join - and the only one which allows non-residents requires an invitation which can only be found in a PoU regional mod. PoU metaorgs offer access to the following NONC prestige classes: Legendary Captain - Petty Officer, Royal Navy Tactical Soldier - Sgt,. Royal Army Combat Medic - Sgt., Royal Army Support Corps Nightsong Infiltrator - Manager, Society of Shadows Nightsong Enforcer - Manager, Society of Shadows Spymaster - The Web (if it really exists....) In addition, membership in some PoU metaorgs satisfies the special requirements of some core prestige classes (like Sacred Exorcist), or opens the possibility of a special mission to fulfill p-class requirements. Of course, the best reason to join a group is because it fits the character. Patty |
| copper_wyrmling04-22-07, 12:38 AM | I believe all Bissel meta-orgs require the PC in question to have both Bissel home region and Bissel "residency" (a PC can have Bissel home region and still be designated as a visitor rather than a resident; residents have to do compulsory military service). The PrCs offered are Nightsong Enforcer (Thieves' Guild), Nightsong Infiltrator (Thieves' Guild), Drunken Master (various monk orders), Tactical Soldier (Bissel Free Companies and Brotherhood of Flame and Steel), Mindbender (Bardic Circle), Spymaster (Mist Chameleons), Ruathar (Company of the Brightpath), and Mage of the Arcane Order (Guild of the Arcane Path). Various orgs also allow PCs to meet the special requirement for Sacred Exorcist, Elemental Savant and Temple Raider. |
| nobodez04-22-07, 12:58 AM | I'm from the CoU, and so far (MOs are still be written and revised), only one is open to non-residents (Thane), the rest all require being a member of the completely free "Hailing From" MO (which is a five year commitment, as well as granting a small benefit of automatically getting all DC 15 or below Gather Infos in a specific Archbarony within the County). As for access: Adventurer's Guild - Some Teamworks, some feats, some equipment Divine College of Trigol - Some feats, some PrC (Shadowbane Inquisitor and Stormcaster) Obsidian Conclave - Some feats, some PrC (Bonded Summoner, Dragon Heart Mage, Mage of the Arcane Order), some familiars (Ash Rat, Petal) Shadow Network - Some Teamworks, some feats, some PrC (Nightsong Enforcer, Spymaster) That's all we've got so far, and those all require Hailing From, as well as a certain level to qualify. |
| Shieldhart9104-22-07, 01:59 PM | Knight of Furyondy, baby ;-) That certainly puts some pep in your step whilst playing in Furyondy! |
| SirApropos04-23-07, 01:49 PM | Current Gran March PrC's Tactical Soldier (Military/Hospitalers) Mage of the Arcane Order (Syrloch) Wayfarer's Guide (Syrloch) Suel Arcanamach (Syrloch/Hospitalers) Skullclan Hunter (Shadowhunters) Nightsong Enforcer (Corporation - Thieves Guild) Nightsong Inflitrator (Corporation - Thieves Guild) Spymaster (Corporation - Thieves Guild) Knight of the Watch (Knights of the Watch/Dispatch) |

| jstorrie04-23-07, 08:53 PM | Suel Arcanamach! Lucky Granmarchers. |
| clannagh04-23-07, 09:31 PM | Ratik doesn't have meta-orgs yet. :( Well Religion and Ratikan background are available. But neither of those give PrC access. |
| SteveMND04-24-07, 11:00 AM | *sigh* It'd be nice if we saw more people joining metagroups because their characters were interested in the focus of the meta, as opposed to just hunting around to see what benefits them the most. :-( |
| taylorj04-24-07, 11:06 AM | *sigh* It'd be nice if we saw more people joining metagroups because their characters were interested in the focus of the meta, as opposed to just hunting around to see what benefits them the most. :-( Part of this is when meta-orgs have yearly gp (not just TU) requirements. If you're paying something every year you expect to get a little return on investment. :P |

I've got a character who'd like to join the Keoland Nature organization. Except he gains absolutely nothing from doing so except being penalized in TUs. |
| Simpi04-24-07, 11:08 AM | *sigh* It'd be nice if we saw more people joining metagroups because their characters were interested in the focus of the meta, as opposed to just hunting around to see what benefits them the most. :-( At least here several people seem interested about "Ex-Scarlet Brotherhood Soldier" MO and probably not due to access it gives. Perhaps there is appeal to play a "fanatically-trained-conqueror-turned-to-second-class-ethnic-pariah" character. Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |
| bitznarf04-24-07, 11:11 AM | *sigh* It'd be nice if we saw more people joining metagroups because their characters were interested in the focus of the meta, as opposed to just hunting around to see what benefits them the most. :-( Well, in the case of most thieves guilds, PCs would be joining both because of the focus of the metaorg as well as being the one that benefits them the most. Looking at it from an arcane perspective, why would a mage join a university of some sort without getting a benefit out of it? Sure some would do it to share their knowledge with others, but why should those who do it purely for selfish means be criticized by players? By PCs I could understand, but by players? |
| SteveMND04-24-07, 11:58 AM | I understand that there are lots of players who are only dealing with the campaign inasmuch as they can maximize their returns for their characters, and that's fine for them -- just not my style. Looking at it from an arcane perspective, why would a mage join a university of some sort without getting a benefit out of it? Sure some would do it to share their knowledge with others, but why should those who do it purely for selfish means be criticized by players? By PCs I could understand, but by players? If I have a character who I place halfway around the world, region-wise, just to get a nifty feat or prestige class, that seems like it's kinda subverting the whole purpose of metagroups, which is to add role-playing favor to each region. If your mage joins Region X's metagrpoup because it's well-known for being the top in the Divination school, fine, and more power to you. if you join it merely because it's the only place you've found so far that offers Prestige Class X, I think that's doing a diservice both to the region and the metagroup, and why they were initially set up to begin with. I've got a character who'd like to join the Keoland Nature organization. Except he gains absolutely nothing from doing so except being penalized in TUs. Um, how about the role-playing flavor of being involved with your region's workings? Does that not count for anything? |
| Mommy was an Orc04-24-07, 12:13 PM | Um, how about the role-playing flavor of being involved with your region's workings? Does that not count for anything? I should be penalized mechanically for my roleplaying concept? That's just horribly wrong... I don't want any of the benefits that the Nature's Sentinels give me - all I'd want is the ability to say I'm a member of them when introducing myself to the rest of the party. And I'd probably wouldn't do that 95% of the time. |
| redgamer04-24-07, 12:20 PM | How about just RPing as a member. I know there are example were this is a bad idea, Silent Ones, but would it be wrong for others? Do you really need to accept the mechanical changes (good and bad) of a monkish metaorg to RP your character training with the monks in the hills between adventures. Can't your character be an amateur cartographer who regularly trades information with stargazers without paying the TUs to get circumstance bonuses to a few skills and acess to oddball equipment. (I apologize if I got the specifics wrong for the stargazers) What self respecting theif wouldn't at least claim to be a member of the theives guild when noone could dispute that claim. Surely not all guilds boot their members just because they spent to much time adventuring and shirked their duties (no TUs to spend) this year. Especial not ones that are amassing personal wealth and power that would be useful to the guild. I'm not asking would you get caught. I'm sure you wouldn't but that isn't the issue. Shouldn't Mommy's character be able to RP like a member of "Keoland Nature organization". Maybe he doesn't spend enough time with them to get access to their gear or learn their special secrets (circumstance bonuses to skills) but that doesn't make him less of a nature lover or less supportive of the organization. Maybe the next iteration of metaorgs can have a no GP/TU option that gives no mechanical benefits but gives the character an AR that lets them officially be a part of the organization (for appropriate organizations only). |
| Timlagor04-24-07, 12:37 PM | Onnwal's are currently being rewritten. Anyone got Combat Medic? I'd be happy to see a complete list of MetaOrgs as well -My Wizard had a falling out with the local Org* and I haven't got around to hunting down some other documents to look into joining one somewhere else. :) * They withdrew all their promised access just as he was about to use it after he gave them a lot of his time. |
| bitznarf04-24-07, 12:40 PM | If your mage joins Region X's metagrpoup because it's well-known for being the top in the Divination school, fine, and more power to you. if you join it merely because it's the only place you've found so far that offers Prestige Class X, I think that's doing a diservice both to the region and the metagroup, and why they were initially set up to begin with. | SteveMND04-24-07, 12:56 PM | So you're saying that you think that 'I joined them because they could teach me about PrC X' is a bad reason to join? If that was the sole reason, and you didn't care a whit about the actual metagroup itself, how it operates, what it's goals were, etc. -- if the only reason you joined them was solely to gain access to that PrC -- then yeah, IMHO, I think that's a terrible reason to join a metagroup. |

Well, I have to disagree with you there. Is the PC using the group in a selfish manner? Yes. Is that a 'wrong' way to play a character? In my opinion, no. Its just a different way. |
| lostpike04-24-07, 01:53 PM | Well if there was open access to all prestige classes people wouldnt worry. Some people make a character concept, and to make it work need access to certain prestige classes, and instead of having to pray you get lucky and play the right module you can look for a metaorg that has access to it and try to work that metaorg into your character concept. |
| Simpi04-24-07, 02:18 PM | Well if there was open access to all prestige classes people wouldnt worry. Some people make a character concept, and to make it work need access to certain prestige classes. This is again one of things in regional system. Triad might want certain style in the region so they don't feel need to grant access to prestige class X while promoting prestige class Y as more appropriate. Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |

| Lomiat04-24-07, 06:41 PM | What is a Knight of Holy Shielding???? It's a prestigious Knight in the Shield Lands. It's also the name of a PrC that was introduced to the campaign in a Dragon magazine (I believe). The class works something like a mounted paladin/holy-warrior type. |
| ithardin04-28-07, 03:09 PM | Many of the regions have websites with their meta-organization's description and certs. I have using my recent unemployment to cruise around and look into the flavor of the different regions, etc. So my suggestion would be to look around the different regions websites and do a bit of snooping to see what you can find. You'll learn about the different regions (like Highfolk's "devoted" PC options) and also see what's out there. For instance: Dyvers has a pit fighters guild meta-org Highfolk has like 7 elven clans Verbobonc has a great Wizard's Academy and the list goes on... |
