Every group or person has something they drink to stay up later playing Dnd and concentrate. If u've played 3 games of dnd u've had that all nighter where u didn't want to sleep and to fight it off you drank something. What does your group drink to stay on its toes at 2 am? Whats the wierdest thing you've heard of.

Our group stayed up one night playing dnd till sun up. Bout 2 or 3 am we needed osmething to keep us going. Well, we made some coffee and we added some Swiss Miss chocolate powder to the brew some sugar and just about everything else we could find that had the ingredients caffeine or sugar in it. It was actually pretty good. I'm not a coffee fan. Man, though, we tried to sleep on it 2 hours later cuz I had work. I woke up after 1 and a half of sleep twitching and convulsing. Stomach lurching. I called into work very promptly after that one. Those are some fun memories.

Plain ole ordinary water.

I gave up sodas almost 2 years ago. I hate the taste of coffee. And those "energy" drinks not only taste worse than eating earthworms (and I have), but the "energy" in them does nothing to me.

My beverage of choice is Mountain Dew (with the sugar and caffeine, it actually packs more punch than any energy drink they sell around here, and with the exorbitant price tags on the latter, certainly has more bang for the buck).

Occasionally also tea. And during my expedition to Onnwal, I consumed several bottles of this strange orange liquid called Irn Bru that tasted artificial and is allegedly made of girders. I think it's supposed to be caffeinated.

I don't drink coffee or use caffeine pills, as I dislike the taste of the former and had a rather bad experience with the latter several years ago. Energy drinks tend to be more expensive than normal sodas and the good ones taste like battery acid (the bad ones taste like sugared battery acid).

Ah, to be young and caffeinated and stay up all night playing D&D. :) Sooner or later, kids, such fast living will catch up with you.

One of my college roommates, when pulling all-nighters, would just eat spoonfulls of Nestea iced tea mix. He claimed it gave him a huge rush for about 10 minutes. Yark. :p

I guess we have different ideas of what fun is.

I find that water helps offset the overly powerful hotel AC, a sweater is a must-have, and cough drops help a lot, especially if I'm the judge, since I'm talking pretty much non-stop for hours.

Sure, I have a coffee addiction, but I try to confine that to the morning

Hey NiTessine, where do you find Mountain Dew in Europe? I haven't ever seen it for sale, at least in the UK!

And I didn't think that Irn Bru was caffeinated, but then I wouldn't know, being a southerner and all. Perhaps we have some Scotsmen here who can clarify?!

Finland, of course!

According to Wikipedia, it's also available in Iceland, Poland, Norway, Switzerland, Romania, Germany, Spain, Malta, The Netherlands, Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia, Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

I don't remember for sure, but I think there was your basic Irn Bru, which was noncaffeinated, and some sort of energy drink version. Tasted pretty bad and I didn't get the rush I get with MD, so it probably wasn't very strong.

Hi

Coffee, of course. With milk & 2 sugars, please.
If the caffeine doesn't get you, then the full bladder will. :D

Anyway, whats this nonsense about 2.00am finishes. That's normal, isn't it? (Having been to a few conventions, weekend sessions, etc).

Good sessions start on Friday night, about 8.00pm, finish about 4.00am. Restart about 10.30am, lunch about 2.00pm, etc etc. until about 6.00pm on Sunday, when everyone goes home.

And less of this "still young enough..." I'm pushing fifty and still enjoy conventions' endless sessions. ;)

Cheers

Good sessions start on Sunday around 2pm, so I can take my mind off of my horrifying Friday/Saturday hangovers. In the best sessions, I am eating soup.

We actually learned the swiss miss + coffee = instant mocha trick about 16 years ago. I had completely forgotten about it until this post.

Nowadays, I'm getting too old for caffeine that late at night (note use of the term nowadays for proof). When DMing midnight madness, I drink enough water to keep myself hydrated, rely on nicotine to stay awake, and attempt to keep the module speeding along at a nice clip so as to get enough sleep to get up early the next morning, inject starbucks espresso drinks into my bloodstream, and do it all again.

A friend of mine ran Vault of the Drow over two nights at DragonCon this year. I told him he was nuts before he started, and after the second night, he agreed with me. One of my rules for midnight madness is no more than one single-round module. Another is no midnight madness 2 nights in a row, but I break that one all the time.

APL 14/16 interactive tables and/or tables of 10+ PCs, with major NPCs at the table is what keeps me up late :)

Mmmm major NPCs who must be completely destroyed . . . I mean . . . uh . . . worked for and otherwise completely obeyed to the point of attacking other PCs (yes I did do that to try to get something to Lady X. It didn't work :(. Stupid lawful good types having moral qualms and goad and tower shields!)

Hear hear! I've made it through 4 years of undergraduate and 6 years of graduate school without a single mg of caffeine. If the game you're playing isn't exciting enough to keep you awake then go to bed! :teach:

How about ground up NoDoze along with your favorite caffinated beverage of choice?

I prefer Jolt and if I can't find that, Code Red Mountain Dew.

Red Rain, a no-name of Red Bull that's identical but cheaper. Coffee is also beloved but makes me too hyper to play while under the influence of.

Absolutely without a doubt, Bawls. Caffiene drink made from a natural berry or something so it doesn't tear up your stomach like synthetic caffiene.

Of course, this was back when I actually pulled D&D all-nighters. I don't do those anymore. I've decided I like my sleep. Must be getting old. :D
