Where gold and equipment of permanently dead characters goes. [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-25-06, 12:37 AM I have a theory that in the Greyhawk setting it is customary to bury the deceased with all of their gear and possessions. This is basically a form of recycling. Places where lots of adventurers are buried are laden with treasure so that the future generations have undead-filled dungeons to explore. Do you see? Whats ur take?

If you got to loot the bodies of fallen comrades, then the wealthiest adventurers would be the ones whose companions died the most often. That rewards selfish play at best, and player vs. player conflict at worst.

To stave this off, you have NO access to the wealth of the dead.

12-27-06, 12:32 AM In game, my characters would have wills sending their possessions to various places.

Feathas: Was to hiswife, but she is now missing, presumably enslaved. I guess his possessions will go back to his elven clan. Not that they'll care.

Napoleon: Donated to the temple of Wee Jas and to any old soldier's pension fund.

Daolin: Back to his Mom. That's what Mom told him to do.

None of my characters would be buried with valuables. That would be silly.

12-27-06, 12:40 AM I'm just commenting on the rule. I like it. It was kind of vicious watching what happens to the belongings of your character after he is deceased in the party. My Helmite cleric in our home game had a set of full plate that was enchanted with the everbright property(its alway shiny:D) had his body stripped clean and wasn't even buried! Thats the thanks Watcher Strom gets for valiantly pulling a vampire off of his halfling comrade as the parties dwarven fighter flees before the first sword is drawn. Seriously, the vampire rose out of the coffin the creepy way vampires do and the dwarf was already fleeing before he was up.

But its kind of infuriating to watch your old party mates steal all of your loot. I told our Dm at the time that my spectre should come back for the dwarf that had my plate armor and holy symbol.
