The new DMG eratta clairified that caster level is NOT a prerequisite to crafting a magic item (thank God!).

However, this eratta came out at the same time as the draft, so the draft still incorrectly says caster level is a prereq.

My question is, how do I contact these folks to express my displesure in this oversight? Anyone have a URL?

The draft is not in error on that. The Circle is aware of the errata, and were aware of it's probably inclusion back when they added that statement to the 2.0 version in the first place. It is an intentional change to accomodate a Living campaign style, since the Circle wants additional restrictions on MIC in the campaign.

Really? What makes you say that?

Why diminish a bunch of feats that seems to play fine in all the games I've played?

What am I missing?

Well, as far as I'm concerned, this has never been adequately explained with anything other than Greyhawk is a low magic campaign. I don't believe for a moment that Greyhawk is 'low magic'. Extraplanar creature abound in official material, magic is plentiful (but not common place). If Greyhawk was a low magic setting, some other campaign setting would be the standard D&D world.

It is; Forgotten Realms (tongue somewhat in cheek).

Greyhawk is traditionally defined as "Low Magic," in the sense of there not being a mage in every hamlet or village, or that the movers and shakers of the world were never Epic-level godlike figure, and that magical items were rare and highly prized. Compare the traditional Greyhawk to the much-higher-magic FR setting.

That said, while LG started out as low-magic back in Year One (back then, masterwork items were a highly-prized commodity, and magical items were ridiculously rare), the changes instigated by the RUPs changed all that. As time went on, however, LG was more and more being pushed to be the representation of 'Core D&D,' and since Core D&D is Medium Magic as opposed to Low Magic, LG eventually changed to follow suit.

As to the added restriction on MIC, there are lots of changes done to accomodate the fact that Living campaigns are far different than normal home campaigns; the amount of XP and cash you get is far differnet, character creation and what you can and cannot get are far different, etc.
