A Sanctuary Potion has a duration of 1 rd when bought at the base price.

It takes a Standard Action to drink it, which leaves you with one move action.

Who would buy this?

Why would they buy it?

Well the 1 rnd duration should mean it protects you till your next action...still not that great. But it could be useful in a big battle and it isn't all that expensive.

I haven't used one. <shrug>

The access you want for better potions will come with more play, either from AR access or creation feats. You may also want to look into joining a meta-org in your region for more access to better items.

I havent been playing LG too long but I can tell you this, in LG they say that magic items are very rare but I see plenty of them on ARs and used against me by NPCs in mods. Whats really rare is gold. Without gold you likely will never be able to buy most of the items you get access to on the AR, most item access is only good for 3 or so adventures, meaning if you dont buy it within 3 adventures of the AR you get access to it on, it isnt available to you anymore.

I would recommend you forget about purchasing any potions other than cure light wounds and save your gold for items that arent 1 shots. If theres a 1 shot with a big game effect then maybe, but more than likely you are going to want to upgrade your weapon or armor, or buy the few magic items you can afford when you finally do get an AR granting access to it.

As someone who was playing Year One mods, I must point out that the gold you get now is a hell of a lot more than you got then. For example, I played a 2 round 591 Dyvers mod called The Power of Gold that if you played it right you ended up recieving 25gp at the end. The only up side to year one mods was the certs in which you were given good items instead of today's ARs where you sell everything and then gain access to certain items.

Today GP and XP are standardized by APL. In earlier years, you got the same GP and XP (max 500) no matter what APL you played. Also, don't forget that at one time "Adventure" meant right then and there. I missed out on a cool one of a kind item by a few GP, and that was irritating. So even if you're upset about not being able to afford something even with the 3 adventure rule, just remember that you have a lot more leeway than some of us had.

As an aside, I should mention that when I was a lower-level player, I agonized over missing out on a Ring of Feather Fall that was on an AR, but I couldn't afford. It took a few years, but I finally got access to it again. I just mention it as an example of how things come back around. In the long run, I didn't really need the ring. I can't even remember when my character fell 5' since then, but it is cool to have one now. The problem I have now is deciding which of my 4 rings to wear and which 2 to keep close at hand.

And one more thing, make sure that if your region has some good meta-orgs for your character you join one. I've got a +3 sword +3 armor, and feats and other items that I've never seen on an AR because of it.

You drink it as your action 1 round and it then lasts until the end of your action the following round - allowing you to dash in through the dragons threat range and cast a healing on your Dragon Slayer - who will hopefully then do his job before you have to worry about getting back out again!!

Useful against intelligent opponents though.

Think of it this way. If they attack you once, and then fail because of sanctuary, are they going to try again next round?

But yes, it's not great.

It can save you in a fight if you are close to dying. Five-step back, pull out the potion, and then drink it. When your opponents five step up to you to attack you, they have to make a will save or they cannot attack. But the DC is so low. I have not seen anyone buy one.
