I was looking in the LGCS and under open prestige classes there is Wild OSul but it also has a restriction listed earlier in the document. I would not have been confused but alienist has the same note and does not appear under Open Prestige classes. Which is correct.

Thank you,'

Both are correct. You cannot take either without meeting the special requirement, which does make Wild Soul hard to get into.

However, since it is open you may be able to get away with a GMs note that the condition has been met, which would not be acceptable for Alienist.

It requires campaign documentation, not just a judge note. The PrCs that allow a judge's note are clearly specified in the current LGCS. Usually, though, if an AR gives you access to a PrC, it's also going to specify that you meet the special requirements.

Ah, in which case I ask the same question as the OP - in what sense is it Open?

It's open in that you don't need access to the class, you just need specific documentation stating that you've met the special requirements. Of course that being the case it is effectively NONC...

Unlike Alienist, which is NONC and requires class access as well. I suppose that theoretically you could need two different bits of documentation - one to give you access to the class and a second to meet the special criteria, but I think that's unlikely to happen.

Actually, I have an AR from one of last year's mods (title and number withheld as it's still available) that has a note on the AR stating that you now meet the special requirement for the alienist class, but nothing opening the class for you.

Yes, last year when the current Open/Closed/NONC was not in use. Last year it was just a matter of getting access via an AR and tada! Now it's not that simple.

PrC's that just need a note from the judge, as Britt mentioned, are specifically noted (the Reaping Mauler comes to mind, with a judge needing to add a note about you single-handedly combating a large-sized creature) while others need specific "open"-ness via an AR, like the Alienist.

That's not correct. Last year was exactly the same for Wild Soul and Alienist. The names and some approaches have changed, but not the entire system. Last year, you still needed both access and something saying you fulfilled the Special Requirements to take Alienist.
