| Thanlok08-08-06, 02:37 PM | I have access to an ioun stone and a periapt of wisdom. Is there anything else to boost Wisdom scores? Thanlok |
| kenobi6508-08-06, 03:19 PM | As far as items, the only other one in the DMG (as far as I can remember) is the Tome of Understanding, a book which, once read, gives the character an inherent bonus to Wisdom. The Tome isn't cheap: one that gives a +1 bonus to Wisdom costs 27,500gp. The Tomes go all the way up to a +5 inherent bonus, for 137,500gp. And, then, there's always the issue of getting access to one. Note that the Ioun Stone and the Periapt you mention won't stack with each other; they both provide an enhancement bonus to Wisdom. |

| kenobi6508-08-06, 05:01 PM | I thought I remembered reading you couldn't get more than a +1 Inherent bonus from the books in LG. Entirely possible; I've never gotten to the point where it's ever come up. :) |
| Mommy was an Orc08-08-06, 05:41 PM | I thought I remembered reading you couldn't get more than a +1 Inherent bonus from the books in LG. Inherent bonuses are like almost any other in D&D - they don't stack with other inherent bonuses. You can't get two of the same +1 Inherent books and thereby get a bonus of +2. But the only apparent limit on a +2 Inherent book is whether or not they decide to put one into the game. |
| Japangirl08-08-06, 06:12 PM | I think books are completely banned, actually. I know that when the campaign retirement was 18th, not 16th, casters weren't allowed to wish themselves higher stats. You can get inherent stat bumps from a few mods, but I think that's the only way. |
| Mommy was an Orc08-08-06, 07:32 PM | I have a character who got access to 2 books in the past week. Of course, she won't actually be able to afford them until 10 levels from now, but... I think books are completely banned, actually. I know that when the campaign retirement was 18th, not 16th, casters weren't allowed to wish themselves higher stats. |
| Arvagor08-08-06, 08:06 PM | Ditto here, although I only have access to the +1 variety... |
| zoinks6908-10-06, 02:28 AM | For dwarves, there is the Clasp of the Elder (from Arms & Equipment Guide). When worn by a dwarf (on their beard, so unslotted? There's nothing specific in the text) it gives +2 enchancement (so no stacking with periapt) to Wis and +5 competance bonus to Diplomacy and Intimidate. It's unfortunately caster level 10 and access would be rather limited, but it might be worth trying to find for non-divine dwarven casters, assuming it's actually unslotted -- +1 will saves isn't terrible and the +5 is nice for charismatic types. |
| Prochytes08-10-06, 07:30 AM | But the only apparent limit on a +2 Inherent book is whether or not they decide to put one into the game. There is at least one wizard out there who bought herself a Tome of Clear Thought +4 (I think; it might have been a +3) as a result of a favour from an expired module. She had to save up for a month of Sundays, of course. |
