Because there are ARs for the different parts, your guy with 900 could play part 1, level and then finish off part 2 at level 2. He may not have finished all of the adventure before reaching two, but due to the split ARs, he has a greyhawk ruins AR in his stack before leveling. Also, I would recommend bringing a full party or buying some riding dogs. Four characters, 3 of them with starting equipment, will probably have a lot of trouble with a number of the encounters. |
| bitznarf11-02-07, 11:37 AM | Yeah, up here in the frozen north we just got a 5th player, so we are running through a double round regional intro mod, then starting into Greyhawk Ruins. |
| honest21hero11-02-07, 01:09 PM | Wait a sec, are you saying Greyhawk Ruins is already starting? I thought it didn't open until January 1, 2008. If it is starting now, then I'd like to join a day group anyone has an opening. Availability: M-Th 8am-5pm Central Standard Time, F 8am-8pm CST. |
| bitznarf11-02-07, 01:11 PM | What gave you that idea? The first mod premierd at GenCon this year. CGR7-01 and CGR7-02 (parts 1-4) are already available for play. |
| Shieldhart9111-06-07, 04:04 AM | Part 2 is already out? Time flies by when you pay too much attention to regional mods...I haven't played any of CGR, HOWEVER- I'm curious to know how difficult it would be for six Level 1's to play this mod. Does this immediately spell TPK, even if there is a well-balanced party? Or should we fall back on the whole Riding Dog thing? Can you play Parts 3 or 4 before 1 and 2? Do you have to be 1st Level to play parts 3 and 4? Or can you take your Greyhawk character who's 2nd Level into Parts 3 and 4 and then play Parts 1 and 2? Just satiating my curiousity on this one! |

Just to keep us on the same page, there are 4 modules and each one has ~4 parts. The first module is out and split between CGR7-01 (parts 1&2) and CGR7-02 (parts 3&4). Keep in mind that all PCs must be level1 when they play their first CGR module. So six level1s must happen pretty frequently. I presume that the adventure is balanced to deal with this, although I haven't played it. That being said, the riding dogs (or even the cheaper 1HD guard dogs) are a good idea in the baby levels. I've heard several times that order of the parts doesn't matter. There might be some issues if you jump back & forth between modules though. However, in your question you wanted to play your first CGR with a level 2 Greyhawk PC. This is forbidden by the LG-GRS. When you reached level 2 without having played a CGR, that PC is no longer eligible for the series. Also, that PC immediately changes to the Home Region where you reside and loses access to (and retrains out) everything that the LG-GRS had given access to. Presumably any Dungeonscape equipment is sold back for 1/2. Cheers, Stephen Martin untitled Player |
| Timlagor11-07-07, 07:56 PM | I'm pretty sure that CGR7-02 actually has all four parts. I believe the original intent was that CGR7-01 only be available at GenCon but someone messed up the database (who'd have thunk it?) so it is in fact available for general play. Someone with 900xp can indeed start the CGR modules BUT I belive they are not able to change their home region to Domain of Greyhawk as that is only available to new characters. |
