I got to thinking about all the heroic and stupid things my character had done over the past 4 years and I was wondering if anyone was willing to share their best and worst moments during the campaign.

I'll go first.

My best moment: With my newly aquired Slippers of Spider Climbing I decided to use my FTR/RGR to sneak up on some guards that were patrolling a bridge by walking on the under side and getting behind them. Even though I was wearing heavy armor, I somehow was able to get behind them unawares. While I was still on the side of the bridge I grappled one of the guard's ankles and used a strength check to drop him about 500'. The DM rolled a listen check to see if the other guard would hear his buddy's cries, but he failed. I used the next round to climb over the bridge railing and the round after that I was able to bull rush the other guard over the railing to join his pal. The best part about all this is that I was playing up and a toe to toe battle would have likely killed me, but the luck gods were on my side. :þ

My worst moment: In the opening encounter of a mod our party had to chase a well-prepared group of theives through a crowd of villagers in the city market. One of them was a ROG/WIZ and summoned a beastie in the middle of the NPCs causing them all to panic and slowed our movement to half. We finally caught up to the bad guys while they were making a daring rooftop escape through the middle of Dyvers. We had to go up a set of spiral stairs in order to follow them up and across the roofs. The ROG/WIZ pulled out a Wand of Grease and coated the stairs. I was in the lead, lost my balance, fell down the stairs, and did 1d6 damage to each of my party members because of my armor spikes. I took 3d6 for falling down the stairs. If that wasn't bad enough, after we got up the stairs I slid off of another roof when the ROG/WIZ stopped to Grease a plank that they had used to cross from one building to another.

My worst LG moment was in "The Night Where Nothing Happened" in which the party is approached by a wounded thief who asks them to help him steal things.

My cleric had just gotten done with an adventure where we were fighting the same thieve's guild tooth and nail, so his first action when seeing a wounded rogue was to club him unconscois and take him to the cops. Boxed text prevented this, of course. When the party realized the module was based around stealing things and giving them to a rogue, the Paladin had to leave (and got next to no XP) and the rest of us should have left, but to our shame, did not.

Before we get bombarded by WizOs or some snarky Tirade (oops I mean Triad) or Co6 members, I should remind everyone not to post spoilers or anything that might reveal any information about playable mods. If its retired have at it.

My famous: There are quite a lot, especially one in interactive but this comes to a mind. In Y3 Onnwal regional, we were attacked by a huge number of 1st level barbarians with greataxes, led by a priest.

My friend falls under the effect of 'hold person' and three barbarians surround him, starting 'coup de grace' as standard action. My archer is in combat with one but my animal companion manages to finish him off and it leaves me free. I can shoot three arrows (6th level and rapid shot) and I must hit and kill with all of them or my friend is dead. Three arrows are loosed, three barbarians die and my friend lives, thanks to my favorite enemy +4 bonus.

Infamous: This was in Lance of Osson (y3 metaregional). Other PCs are captured by orcs when Lance of Osson is stolen from their leaders hut. My character is not sleeping in the same place, choosing to sleep in a seperate compound, run by a Sea Barons captain. Since I don't want to get involved with orcs (who by now had concluded I stole the lance, therefore other PCs should capture me), I bribed my way captains ship and hide in contraband storage.

Meanwhile, other PCs infiltrate the ship to find me, fail to sneak around and get into fist fight with sailors, eventually losing. Finally the ship leaves for Dullstrand and I jump overboard after leaving Montesser and swim ashore. Not realising this was stupid, since I have no way of finding my companions, I start my return journey across Medegia. Meanwhile other PCs recover the lance.

(naturally the module did not expect me or other PCs to do anything like this and DM was quite frustrated)

I finally meet them in the harbor of Kildeer (capital of Free Onnwal) with six Ahlissan guards and try to get the lance from them. (They wanted to give it to Almorians, I wanted to give it to Ahlissans). Situation is defused when I back down, not out of cowardice but because of a new player (I don't want to give him a negative image about LG) and I let them have the lance.

End result, I walk away from scenario with practically no exp or money :D

Single Worst Moment would require posting possible spoiler info, so I won't. Second worst is retired. We're an anemic APL2. I'm 4th lvl playing with a just created Monk, just created Wizard and just created Sorc. They used their spells usefully but early. I went to cross a bridge and... oOpS! Was that a trap? Yes it was, and down I went, brand new banded mail and all right into the water. Where I was immediately attacked by a crocodile. Into the croc's mouth, then out, then back in and FINALLY I made a DC10+ACP climb check. I had 2 hit points, then the troll approached, the two druid's companions charged and the druids themselves started casting spells.

Best moment was I think the Owlcon 04 interactive? Might have been Aggiecon. Anyhow - I'm playing with 4 guys who're not from the Bandit Kingdoms like I am. Things work... a little differently here as they found out. My then 2nd-lvl Rog gets put on the wall with clerics of Iuz to defend Hallorn. I can think of places I'd rather be but hey... Anyhow, during the fight some folks turned on their clerics, battling two fronts. Not us. I convinced the party to fight the incomming threats as long as possible. Then the infernals showed up and got into it with the cleric. None of us could get past their DR (except me but I needed a flank to do that) and we were totally out of spells. So my party decided to attack the cleric. I spent the next 3 rounds assisting the cleric's armor class vs. my party :) The party was not amused but it kept the cleric up long enough for him to drop one of the infernals. That same round my party finally drops the cleric to -1. I give the cleric a CdG on my turn, then use my diplomacy on the infernal. "We've dispatched the minion of the Old One... don't you have a bigger fight to attend to... leave us alone and we'll not attack you..." My party collectively dropped their jaws at my 'deal-with-the-devil' but it worked. Nice high roll and good situation. Made tons of sense so... away went the baddie and we all got to keep our skins. We had < 20 hp between 5 party members.

Best moment - The Weasel and the Pipe.

We were crouched in a 4' pipe, having retreated from an athatch that was wiping the floor with us in the room beyond. Two fighters already down.

I summoned a dire weasel, and convinced it to lurk in the pipe ready to bite the athatch if it reached in. The athatch reached in to stab the weasel, the weasel bit the athatch, and hung on. I then glued the weasel to the inside of the pipe with tanglefoot bags.

The athatch couldn't get it's hand out of the pipe, couldn't get all it's arms into the pipe. It made a spirited attempt to disembowl the weasel, but with our cleric and druid healing the weasel, and our sorceror empting his entire complement of spells in the form of magic missle at him. The weasel managed to hang on, draining blood each round, just long enough to kill him.

Worst moment? -

We had the night hag pinned, and were trying to kill it, but none of us had any weapons that could get through her DR, or spells that could penetrate her spell resistance. Eventually she broke free long enough to go ethereal. Then we all had to run away. A long way away.

I remember that module. Our judge later told us his slot zero table (and others) had failed to complete the module because they couldn't get past that encounter or it took them too long to defeat the athatch.

One charm monster later and it was my friend for the rest of the module. It even stood guard while we rested in the sewers. We set it free outside the city at the end of the module.

One adventure had both high and low moments for my character. It was a regional adventure being run by one of the triads who got a kick out of my character.

In the final encounter we attempt to capture or kill the scarlet robed bad guy. None of the other characters could hit so my enchantress casts "Charm Person" on him and succeeds. He becomes a willing captive to my character.

Next in the optional encounter we chase another scarlet robed bad guy. I try "Charm Person" on him but fail. He tries "Charm Person" on me and succeeds. At his bidding, I prevent the other party members from getting past me so he succeeds in escaping. I did nothing to hurt the other party members, just things like sleep, daze, etc.

Swamp Things was a bad mod at which to run a weak APL 2 table. We were at APL 6 and did alright crossing the bridge, because we anticipated the trap and no one fell into the water, but the troll was a little trouble. I ended up grappling it 'a-la the Rodents of Unusual Size in The Princess Bride and rolling it into the evil druids' campfire while they all escaped with the girl. Even though I was a pretty good tracker for APL 6 they all had Trackless Step and we had to go back empty handed. We were able to make a report on the evil druids, so I did get a Stone of Elhonna, which I still carry just in case we need to know which direction is north.

Swamp Things wiped my APL 2 table. Not a good introductory module for LG.

We actually all got out of there, but not by much. I backed up and cast a cure mod. I rolled max and we were able to retreat. I think the DM might have been being a bit nice about it all.

I ran the mod twice. [shudders]

We were up against...a baddie...a big baddie...a boss baddie. We were out of spells and abilities...he would surely have wiped the floor with us. We had a paladin who we knew wouldn't back down. We also had a cleric...with an insane Diplomacy. We were playing at apl2. The Paladin was first level. We stumble upon the baddie and the paladin rushes him. Thinking quickly our barbarian uses his attack of opportunty against...the paladin. He clocks him with a subdual blow, knock him unconcious. The cleric appolgizes to the big baddie for disturbing him...we drag the paladin out. The guy playing the paladin later thanked us for saving him. We didn't get much gold or XP...but we survived.

No list of famous and infamous moments would be complete without mentioning my wife's character's moments, which both happened in As He Lay Dying if I recall correctly.

The best moment for her was when my character (The Tank) was strengthed drained by a hag we were fighting on the Rhenee barge. I was at -3 to all my attacks and damage and close to death when out of nowhere my wife's char (a straight wizard at the time) flanked her and killed her with a critical blow from her +1 quarterstaff (and qualifying for spellsword in the process since she hadn't gotten a spell off).

Her worst (?) moment came when we were on the ghost ship of the cleric of Vecna (or Iuz I can't recall). I had levels of Cleric before the 3.5 conversion and I had just failed a turn against 3 bolstered medium-sized skeletons. After taking them out and being brought to half HP, and her without any offensive spells, the minotaur bodyguard comes up from below deck, gores everyone else in the party but her and we're all at 0 or less HP, she jumps overboard and the cleric calls after her, saying that his bodyguard is about to dump our bodies into the Nyr Dyv. She says she will do anything to save us to the cleric, and since he was getting lonely on the ship and she had a CHA of 14... fade to black

We wake up with one HP each on a plank in the middle of the Nyr Dyv, her character looks a little frazzled and the evil cleric is smoking a cigar and blowing kisses at her while we're adrift. We all decided that was the end of the adventure.

My primary PC was out of TUs so I'm playing my secondary PC (Brb3) with this L7 goup. I'm staning between an ogre and giant and I cleave through the ogre and award the giant 24 damage, bringing him to single digits, at which point he turned and ran.
No wait, here's a better one: I was at -2 (sort of) with the same PC, but still up thanks to rage... I was in melee with a hydra, not much chance of living, I rolled 2 nat 20s and killed the thing via max power attack.

The worst time is when the last PC fell unconsious due to damage while trying to resuce a boy. The boy had made his escape artist check and was in the back of the party poring random potions down my PC. He finally gets the cure in me right after the last PC falls. I hit that last bad guy (who only had 4hp left) and drop him, barely avoiding a total party kill.

I dunno about best and worst but the most amazing moment in something like 25 years of gaming happened recently in an online game.

We were fighting a vampire with a woefully underprepared party, a weak APL4.

We did have some holy water, some garlic, a few holy symbols and a couple silver weapons we couldn't actually hit with. So the vampire didn't have a total walkover. Right around when we were trying to figure out how to hit it with a backpack full of oil flasks, it dominated the biggest, baddest fighter in the group and sent her chasing my character (we were the ones with garlic and holy symbols keeping it at bay). Most of the party ran, like good little lowbies in a TPK situation. One archer though, just couldn't stand running. He said something like:

"DM, if I roll a nat 20 can my arrow have hit its heart?" DM didn't answer, he stood his ground, knowing his character was dead by doing so...and then rolled a nat 20.

The DM kept us in suspense until the vampire got another action, I think hoping someone would drop it anyway (it was getting fairly weak, but we didn't know that). When it was 1hp from fleeing and it had an action again, the DM polled us all to ask if we should let the arrow "stake" the vampire. (there is not and never has been rules in any edition of D&D for staking a vampire in combat). After some discussion it was decided to reward him for putting his character on the line AND rolling a nat 20 on demand, plus in the absence of rules for this situation, the DM was free to make a judgement call.

So that archer saved the city. The player said "well, it would have been a good death if I had failed..." which is true, since that extra round while the vamp was killing him would have bought the rest of us time to escape.

The DM did roll the vampire attack, to show what would have happened to the archer the next round...nice slam crit, which would have both killed him with damage AND drained all of his levels.

Great Party Moment:

My first con and three guys I'd just met and been playing with all day convinced me to stay for a slot I'd planned on skipping. In the middle of the mod, our APL 2 party spots a manticore flying down on us. My Archer, Tobin, rapid shots, not one, but TWO crits (his first!) into the beast at 180' out, doing some 40 points of damage. The DM is slightly taken aback and says, "Well, the Manitcore is not used to being hurt at this range, so he's standing back a bit... oh and Tobin...it considers you to be a threat." Six tail bolts later, Tobin is bleeding out and the only bow in the group is lying next to him. While the druid's summoned hippogriff drew attention away from the party, the barbarian (the only character with strength enough to use the Tobin's mighty bow) picks up the bow and lands a couple of shots. The cleric pumps a bunch of healing into Tobin, who staggers to his feet to coach the Barbarian-***-archer on dodging spikes. Two rounds later, the Manticore, out of spikes flies down to engage us... only to fly into the Burning Hands of the cleric. Crash & Burn.

I've been hooked on cons ever since.

My most infamous: I had a grey elf wizard1/fighter1 named Rein with Con of 8, so at the time he had 8 hp. While in Greyhawk my group was arrested and questioned by the guards (P.S. this started my hate of Pholtus and his "light"). The only woman in the group cries her way out of being beaten for information (that we did not have) so i try the same thing. I have yet to live this down, and now everyone, except other elves, refer to him as a coward.
My most famous: A group of seemingly normal townfolk are actually demon worshippers summoning a demon. Rein is now a Wiz2/Ftr1 that likes to throw oil flasks without fuses, then do burning hands. We find a group of brigands held up in another seemingly normal wooden warehouse filled with wooden crates. The warehouse has one door to what seems to be an office and one trap door. I use the oil and burning hands trick to take out a fair number of brigands, and accidentally the whole warehouse of "stolen goods". I also tossed an oil flask down the trap door before running out, thus harmlessly setting off the lightning bolt trap that we did not know about. Out of the wreckage comes the missing girl we were supposed to find, alive but needing healing. I had accidentally saved the only virgin maiden in town from being sacrificed by the demon worshippers in the "office", killed all of them while they were entranced, and stopped the demon being summoned all with a few flasks of oil. I defeated the box text of the girl being sacrificed to the chagrin of the DM.

Hmm,

One I particularly remember was judging a scenario at CONduit in SLC, Utah… a young teenager was at the table and I was a bit worried about how well he would roleplay with a table of adults, but I shouldn’t have he was great! I like trying to make players at my tables a bit paranoid and this was a great scenario for it. The teenager’s character picked up a box and looked inside of it. I pulled the player aside from the table and whispered “inside the box is…. nothing." It was an empty box. We returned to the table and the other players asked him what was in the box. “Oh, nothing….. now.” This created a hilarious 15 minutes of furious questioning, cajoling, and interrogating including one character trying to use diplomacy to convince the teenager’s character to fess up. For the rest of the scenario the group wouldn’t let anyone out of their sights. (This was all in very good humor).

At the same CON I had another table where the party was being attacked by an Air Elemental doing flyby attacks. The party barbarian, unable to see of attack the Elemental grew bored and started looking around and triggered the next combat (I thought I was going to end up TPKing the party at this point because the Elemental had seriously whittled them and the next battle was a Beholder. The Barbarian had climbed up a bit on a structure to check what was in it, didn’t see anything (missed spotting the hidden Beholder) and sat down to watch the battle with the elemental. The beholder floated up silently behind him and rayed him in the back several times. The Barbarian made enough saves to survive and combined a very good Jump check with an even better Grapple check to jump the 15 feet over the yawning gulf to land on the beholder and cling their. The Beholder was lurching around trying to dislodge his unwanted passenger while the Barbarian was trying to grab hold of as many eyestalks as possible and force them to point away from him while pummeling the Eye Tyrant. The rest of the party finished with the Elemental, realized what was going on with the barbarian and got their just in time to distract the Beholder when it finally managed to shake the Barbarian loose.

Recently I had a very fun (and loud) high level table of Castle Greyhawk at GENCON So-Cal. that was all Zagygians. We had a High Priest of Zagyg (well his body, which was being run by his sentient Ioun Stone while the character was having a crisis of faith). A Low Priest of Zagyg (actual title bestowed by Zagyg) who started life as an insane Halfling farmer and after several levels of geomancer, several curses, and having the robes of Vecna permanently grafted to him is now more of a Halfthing. The Low Priest’s wife, the Crème Puff of Zagyg (also an official title from Zagyg himself) who, among many other things is a Holy Liberator of Zagyg (Free your mind!). A high level Bard of Zagyg (Have you heard any good jokes lately? I’m collecting them incase I meet Zagyg again.) And myself, an Arcane Trickster of Zagyg (Bane of Paladin’s of Al Ackbar everywhere) and easily the sanest one of the group and my character isn’t that sane. I must admit I was a bit worried when we were 30 minutes into the slot and hadn’t even gotten to the Castle yet because we were having so much fun. Notable events included the Hero’s Feast composed entirely of cheeses (Munster fondued in a nice sharp Jack is wonderful!). The mad rush to dive into the pool of acid when the Crème Puff of Zagyg, who had wadded in to get the keys there, came out permanently and magically scarred with the Holy Symbol of Zagyg on her chest (its really fun to watch her turn undead now!), and the resulting ‘water’ fight. And watching a mouse, grappled by an Evard’s spell but armed with a rod of wonder annihilate the party of enemy monks while the rest of the party had tea (served my our continually active unseen servants) and chatted about the finer points of the various effects the rod of wonder was manifesting. All this VERY odd character behavior was mixed with some VERY odd player behavior, for example… “wow, a crit. that deserves a Conga Line” at which point all the players got up and conga lined there way through the other tables at the CON for a couple of minutes.

Best Character Moment: Assault on Molag, a regional module that is now retired AND removed. I was a fairly new Druid 5, and the party easily finished the module. We decided to take on the Optional mission, which involved us sneaking into a building and gathering info. Well, we were supposed to sneak in, so one player found a hole in the wall and cast a Silence right inside, and another player broke through the wall with an Adamantine weapon. Inside we find an active planar gate and the documents we were sent to find. I summoned a Thoqqua, and pointed out it's meal.
We never found a single combat in that optional mission. Turns out they were waiting in an office inside the building, listening for people to enter.

Best DM Moment: A party encounters a couple vampires. One dominates a player and tells that player to protect him. Player fails both saving throws and proceeds to trip every party member that came close, using his spiked chain. Then the other vampire dominates another player, and tells him to drop all his weapons... the character spent about 4 rounds drawing and dropping every single weapon on him.

Even though I'm still new at this LG thing (only since September), I distinctly recall some embarassing (yet amsuing) moments for characters.

There was the time I ran past a 7 headed hydra into something significantly smaller and less dangerous. It whacked me with all 7 AoO's (and a crit too!) 6th level character takes 62 points of damage, passes the Massive Damage save and proceeds to slaughter the other thing. I spent the next 5 rounds healing myself after that.
Then there was the time we were fighting rust monsters and some big bad fire thingy. Since I just got a shiny new sword and armor I refused to go toe to toe with something with RUST in it's name. My DM wasn't impressed when I whacked his monster to pieces in 3 rounds while everyone else took forever with the iron oxidizers.
He's stupid, but fun. :D

Just a note...Massive damage is when 50+ hp of damage is done with a single strike...7 attacks combined doesn't require a massive damage save... :D

I won't try to seperate infamus and famus between my characters one character however had some rather memorable highs and lows. In one interactive we had a vote and then were attacked by masses of lizardmen. My wizard decided his interest were best served if the vote was declared void so he went invisible and tried to burn all the ballot boxes. Unfortunately a high level PC noticed the flames so my wizard spent the rest of the interactive hiding and running from the other PC. The judge ruled the flames didn't have time to catch and thus no ballots were destroyed.

His best was when a the bad guy needed to be duped but the Paladin in the party (who could have killed the entire rest of the party single handedly at that time) would have none of it. My wizard ended up taking the unconscious bad guy and a horse and running from the paladin. After getting out of site I woke up the bad guy and convinced him I had betrayed my party and was able to successfully dupe him and save the whole party from failing the mod and getting some pretty major disfavor.

Well when it has Combat Relfexes, it tends to do these sorts of things. I survived the encounter and I learned my lesson not to go threatening things bigger than me with more than one way to smack me.

Combat reflexes allows a creature to make more than one attack of opportunity a round, but for every action that causes an attack of opportunity, a creature gets one and only one attack at it. If you ran through a threatened area, it would get an AO and if another creature would run through a threatened area, it would get another AO. If you ran through a threatened area, and then cast a spell while in the threatened area, it would get two AO's but for every action...only 1 AO.

Besides that, the monster manual lists a 7 headed hydra at a dex of 12 which would allow only 1 extra AO with combat reflexes.

A Hydra has a specific exception saying that it can use it's combat reflexes as many times as it had heads originally (So in the case of a 7-headed Hydra, seven times).
Check it out :)

To be fair, a lot of GM's get the hydra thing wrong. It's not as well worded as it should be.

I've got another one, from a recent interactive that won't be played again, so no spoilerage. We get through this extraplanar crawl of puzzles, traps, undead and constructs and my 5th level sorceress is plumb out of spells, even cantrips. (an attempt to rest resulted in incorporeal undead showing up). The last puzzle has something to the effect of "The next guardian isn't one of mine".

Sure enough, some kind of CG outsider is blocking the next room, claiming that we'll be instantly corrupted by the guy we have struggled through all this stuff to see, blah blah. Essentially claiming that it knew better than us how to exercise our free will, which was pretty snotty for a self-proclamed avatar of Good and Freedom.

So my CG sorceress, while arguing with it, started testing its limits. She edged across the room, until it said "if you go further I'll have to kill you." Then she came back and started refreshing an enlarge spell on one of the party tanks from a scroll. Which set off the outsider...he attempted to shoot me. Whereupon I got my first use of gloves of arrow snaring I'd bought a few mods back. And the rest of the party who was wavering about attacking this critter got mad, starting with the Pholtan cleric (who eventually doomtided the critter so it could be beaten to a pulp, because she had not racked dismissal as it was an extraplanar adventure...)

So with no abilities left, I provoked our way past the last encounter (I spent the fight gathering up cold iron arrows to return to the archer and trying to figure out how to open the last door to demonstrate that it couldn't stop us).

Then we did NOT get corrupted by the guy at the end thank you very much! Any more than the same two (sorceress and cleric) got corrupted by an encounter with a very nasty Baatzeau who thought he could manipulate us into doing his work for him last winter.

All of this is doing nothing to shake her self-confidence....heck she saved Tenh from ether critters at level 4, had lunch with the Theocrat at level 5 and in the last year has interacted with far more movers and shakers, including direct representatives of deities than my main character who is twice her level. She's of the "gods are just more powerful" school, not really believing that worshop is anything that applies to her, as a Rhenee and not really native here anyway.

During an APL 10 game we were right on the cusp of a battle with an evil mage. Suddenly the party monk did this little Ki focusing-looking move ending with one of his hands visibily vibrating then sprang-attack the wizard hitting him. From where he ended up his move the monk then very calmly spoke: "I think you know what happens next if you don't surrender to us right now." The judge considered this realized that the wizard would probably know about quivering palms in general and that he probably didn't have the FORT to survive if the monk wanted him dead now, so he surrendered. The player was honest and asked the judge to have the Mage make a sense motive vs. his bluff but the mage missed it...

Did you?

A long time ago, we're 2nd level and playing River of Blood. We enter through the basement and run into the rats. I get ready to cast burning hands, when the halfling rogue gets into the way. We're getting pretty beat up, so I decide to go ahead and cast the spell and rely on the rogue to evade the damage. Of course, the rogue fails her saving throw. The same PC in a later module casts a cone of cold into a well at the behest of a monk who is being drowned by a nixie. The monk also fails his save, but survives. My PC becomes reluctant to rely on evasion from her party members to avoid damage after a few more incidents like this.

We're into the final encounter (APL 16) of a meta-regional. The evil mage is guarded by a two slaadi and four elemental lords (IIRC). He's also safe inside his hemispherical wall of force (3.0) so he can complete his evil ceremony in peace. I have a 26 inititative and grab all the PCs in range (everyone except the archer who is trailing us by 100 feet) and we dimension door inside the wall of force. We make short work of the wizard and make jokes at the archer's expense until we emerge to save him.

I have several things that stand out:

While playing (I think) BRENDIGUND'S BRIDE, I ended up playing 'keep
away' with the cursed necklace against the disguised Cleric of Iuz
and his bully boys for 4 or 5 rounds until the rest of the party made
it to the site of the rendezvous. We were pretty well fooled by the
cleric's story about wanting the necklace to 'purge it of the curse',
and stole it from Brendigund's office during the festivities of his wedding
at the end of the mod, but thanks to native paranoia I did so using a
potion of invisibility, and made sure it was still in effect when I met
with said Cleric. It was my character (a dwarven Rogue/Sorcerer
who will eventually be an Arcane Trickster) against 5, and it was
nail-biting fun, including at least two exchanges of the necklace
between myself and the lead baddie.

During a Year 2 Core (I don't recall just which one; the one with
the scalpel that allows a SPEAK WITH DEAD), during a drag-out fight
aboard a ship, I spent three rounds yo-yo-ing between 0 and 5 HP;
I took a hit that brought me down to 0 HP, then a cleric healed me
up with a CLW, then I got hit again back down to 0, then I used my
Tilisim of the Rider to bring myself back up, then I got dropped to 0
again, then I took a final hit on the last remaining baddie and finally
dropped into unconsciousness. Classic stuff.

I would say that the entire play of the Nyrond Metaregional BABY
STEPS (which I did at Winter Fantasy this past year) counts as not
just my favorite LG moment to date, but as probaby my favorite D&D
moment in over 25 years of play. Granted, I was blessed to be playing
it at a table of friends who knew me, but all I will say (since the mod
is still active) is that if you get the chance to play it, DO SO! It is
one of the most creative short-form RPG scenarios I've ever done, and
features the best use of the D&D/d20 combat rules ever.

A close second to BABY STEPS had to be the Geoff regional scenario
RITE OF ETERNAL SPRING. Though the mod itself is retired, I will say
nothing about it (since it set into motion several regional and metaregional
plot elements that are still active and ongoing), it was also a case of
a table of excellent players, run by one of the local triad members (and
mod authors), where everything clicked, and rules and roleplaying came
together. It also featured the best (and, I daresay, most gut-wrenching)
finales of any LG mod I've ever played.

That one is As He Lay Dying, which I don't have fond memories of.
