Sorry if this has been asked before, but with the search function down, I can't seem to find anything on it:

I'm curious about the interaction between prestige classes that grant additional caster levels and the wizard base class - in the PHB, p.57, under Spellbooks, it states that, "At each new wizard level, she gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that she can cast (based on her new wizard level) for her spellbook."

Does this mean that, when you take another level in a prestige class that grants you "+1 to caster level in existing arcane spellcasting class" or something similar, you also get these two new spells? For example, if I'm a 9th-level wizard and I take my 10th level in Loremaster, do I get two new, free spells in my spellbook for that level, or do you only get those spells for wizard levels gained, not ones in prestige classes?

From what ive read you only gain spells per level in that class and it always explains how you dont get any benefit of your original class like feats. that might fall under that catagory but it doesnt make much sense. you might want to look up spellbooks, it might say every time you get a level in a spellcasting class you can add 2 new spells to your spellbook so that would put it "outside" the class...

just a thought.

Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new loremaster level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that she adds the level of loremaster to the level of some other spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day, spells known, and caster level accordingly. While a Wizard does not have the same set-in-stone limit on known spells possesed by the Sorcerer, Bard, and Assassin, they are still a class that gains known spells rather than automatically having access to their full spell list (such as a Druid). Thus as far as I am concerned, when a class increases your spells known, it should increase them regardless of how exactly you gain those known spells.
