In the DMG, it says what spells are required if you wanted to make, for example, a Flaming Burst Longsword. But what is required if you wanted to craft a +1 Longsword? Do you just need general spellcasting power, along with the Feat, or are certain spells required?

Just the Feat. Nothing more than that.

Actually, you also need caster level 3. Of course, the feat Craft Arms and Armor usually requires caster level 5 in the first place, so it's not usually a problem. Of course, you also need a masterwork Longsword, a Forge, and reagents costing 2000k, plus the time requirement.

You're thinking market price. It's 1/2 price to craft.

Quite right.

So, assuming the party (or just the caster) had the required resources, your 5th level mage could make a +5 Longsword?

Basically, I'm asking if there's a caster level requirement for higher enchantments.

Armour and Weapon enhancements require 3 caster levels per enhancement bonus. So a +5 longsword would need a 15th level caster, as would a +1 Vorpal Sword. A +4 Flaming sword would require a 12th level caster. A +2 Vorpal Flaming Sword would need and 18th level caster.

It's only per *actual* enhancement bonus, not effective enhancement bonus.

A level 6 character could make a +2 Shocking, Keen, Flaming, Defending, Ki Focus Long Sword. Couldn't *afford* to, but could if he had the money.

Note that the CL's listed alongside the weapon tags are *typical* CL's, and not an actual pre-requisite. (Confirmed in the FAQ and Erratta).

Caster Level for Weapons
The caster level of a weapon with a special ability is given in the item description. For an item with only an enhancement bonus and no other abilities, the caster level is three times the enhancement bonus. If an item has both an enhancement bonus and a special ability, the higher of the two caster level requirements must be met.

You also need to have the XP available to create it. If you just went up a level, you are out of luck
