"You may also invent your own curse, but it should be no more powerful than those described above"
Says the description of the spell Bestow Curse.
I want to see the best curses you have put on someone (as a player or DM) or any idea that you might have.

Funny,
Strange,
Creepy,
or just plain irritating curses are welcome!

Have fun!
(I will try to post ideas latter)

How about permanent hiccups? That'd be a pretty cruel curse.

Makeing someone bad "in bed" is pretty cruel, likewise makeing someone have "things" randomly happen outside of bed is heartless

Increaseing the range of auto failure beyond 1 might be usable as a realization of bad luck

- Making one arm of the subject limp and impossible to use.
- Subject loses the capacity to cast his highest level of spells.
- The subject becomes vulnerable to sun as a drow
- The subject becomes unable to kill
- The subject cannot sleep within 300 ft of any humanoïd... (Good night, and don't let any monster with bad breath near your bed!)

10- Permanent diarrhea. EDIT = someone beat me to it!
11- Digestion rate increased by 800%, causing the character to eat every 30 minutes. Perhaps causing more of number 10?
12- Not being able to sleep.

Funny how ideas seem to come out from the same place when people write at the same time...

- Character stinks as a ghoul and attracts flies that both give his opponents camouflage and make social interraction akward.

Haha Cocolord, "come out from the same place", Pun intended about number 10? (sorry bad taste humor)

 That doesn't sound so bad to me (Though if you think about it, it would also include ladies who are heavier in other respects. Muscle weighs more than fat, you know. Though I prefer the softer big girls.).

20. Any time you are addressed by someone who identifies himself/herself/itself as a cleric, paladin or divine servant of any kind, you must make a will save or spit on them, declare them to be weak, fawning slaves to petty, fickle beings that don't deserve worship or even respect, and insist that they develop some self-respect and become self-reliant. If you just make the DC, you respond like you normally would (hopefully politely) though it appears to the listener that you're struggling to hold back your contempt (You have to exceed the DC in order to truly speak as you normally would).

If the player actually IS a servant of a deity, such as a cleric or paladin, he/she/it need not perform this action to himself/herself/itself.

Do these poor characters get will saves to avoid the dances and compulsory insults?

why did you censor it? there is nothing wrong with saying adolescent, baby, boy, child, girl or woman, so why censor it?

I don't think that was censorship. I think Mr. CrazyOzzy is merely leaving the selection of a choice insult to the player's imagination. The terms you list aren't true insults. They are only insulting when interpreted as such (though I'm surprised you left out prepubescent).:D

Here's another one:

25. The subject of the curse develops a strange condition, where despite the amount of food they eat (meaning no matter how much or how little), they steadily gain weight, until it reaches a stopping point, at about twice the weight of an average member of their race. No amount of exercise or dieting can remove the excess fat, but if the curse is broken, the character will then be able to attempt to lose weight as normal. The obesity does not interfere with a character's well-being in any way. If the curse is not broken within a year of the casting, the character must make a will save or become used to the excess poundage, even finding it attractive. Such a character will actively resist attempts to have the curse broken and will not voluntarily allow it to be broken. A character may attempt another will save the following year, but with each subsequent year, the DC for the will save increases by five, as does the DC required to break the curse.

(Just so you know, I would never sic this one on my players, though I would consider it a possible plot device if an NPC recieved it. It's not like this isn't a fantasy of mine, but something like this just smacks of perversion to more immature players.)
Nathreet

26. Whenever you try to insult someone, you find yourself unable to swear, and the insult always sounds strange, like you are being as tactful as you can. For instance:

"Your beliefs are superficial, and your culture is substandard."

"Your breath is like the wind of an ox. Your last meal was of suspect quality."

"You dress in the manner of a common laborer."

"Your physique is exceptional. Clearly you are a peasant. A noble could afford sloth."

27. Constant twitching or stuttering, adding a -4 to all diplomacy checks, and adding a 20% failure chance to any spell with verbal/somatic components.

28. Aversion to blood... Anytime within 10ft of a character who has taken damage in the past 3 rounds, a fort save must be made (DC = bestow curse), or become nauseated for 1 round.

29. Clumsy fingers... 10% chance to drop any ranged weapon on each attempt to use it.

 That doesn't sound so bad to me (Though if you think about it, it would also include ladies who are heavier in other respects. Muscle weighs more than fat, you know. Though I prefer the softer big girls.).I actually had an experience like this at a D&D congress in Norway a few years ago. I had a girlfriend at the time and I also had a female friend (just to clarify the difference). The female friend was the kind who'd go running several miles every single day, even on a sprained ankle (on painkillers). Absolutely workout-aholic. As part of a joke, I threw her over my shoulder and practically broke my back doing so. This little girl of four foot something weighed more than I did, looming more than a foot above her. And I'm not a slim guy, either! To this day, I swear she's a golem. Or a chobit or something.

Anyway, to add to this list:
31. Every night when the victim goes to sleep, an alternate personality takes over, going around, blowing up buildings, starting underground boxing rings and having sex with strange people. Little by little, they're just letting themselves become... (someone finish it ;))
Realms of Chaos

32: The Curse of Generosity: Must give 1 coin (copper, silver, gold, or platinum) to each man within 1 minute of learning their name. Must donate 10gp to an organization within 1 hour of learning its identity.

My favorite part, when the cursed PC learned the name of the evil organization. He had to be tied to a post to avoid blowing their cover.

Many can come from real life, and many illnesses were thought to be curses in the middle ages:

-Cleptomania: Obligation to steal something when the occasion arises. (Many newbie rogues are already infected by this one) (destructive on a paladin)

-Obligation to make a joke about any and everything (often seen in real life)

-Mythomania: Can only tell lies (this way, you can become part of a well known riddle...) (or it's opposite)

-Eternal allergies (sneeze -> Nauseated every 2d6 rounds + loss of scent abillity if any)

42 (the answer!). Your ability to sense temperature is effectively reversed. For example, you shiver and bundle up during the day in a vast desert, while you wear next to nothing and still sweat uncontrollably in the frozen north. Rules for such things as extreme heat or frostbite remain normal, but are also reversed (frostbite in a desert, heatstroke in a blizzard).

44. All things taste the same to the character; and this is a particularly strong, undeniable flavor, not something bland like gruel. More, a flavor the character doesn't care for. Even pristine, purified water holds this flavor for the unfortunate.

45. Flashes of prescient visions; the character foresees moments of the future, with scraps of time that are clearly moments of danger - but they have no way of knowing exactly when or where these moments will occur.

46. The Familiar Face: Everyone will swear they've seen the character before, and recognize him as a familiar face, even if they've actually never met before. this is particularly bad for a character who tries to be unobtrusive and incognito.

47. Pandora's Curse: The character must make a difficult Will save to avoid opening things they come across such as doors, boxes, barrels, and so on.

I posted this a while ago in a similar thread; bear with me if a few of these have been mentioned here:

I handle Bestow Curse to be able to duplicate the effects of the following spells (among others), subject to the usual limitations of Bestow Curse (touch range, duration permanent, only one target etc.):
-Contagion
-Blindness/Deafness
-Doom
-Reduce
-Ray of Enfeeblement
-Sleep (no HD limit)
-Charm Person (curse of love, in this case. It's a classic, works like a Potion of Love)
-Enthrall
-Tasha's Hideous Laughter (with intervals as long as the usual spell duration, though)
-Entangle (without being stationary, though)
-Cause Fear (no HD limit)
-Ray of Fatigue
-Touch of Idiocy

Instead of these effects, I'd allow any two of the following minor effects - they make your life difficult, but don't confer much in the way of numerical penalties:
-Lose the ability to speak
-Constant Hiccupping/stuttering
-Warts, Boils and Pimples all over the face
-Constant annoying Pain, like cramps or toothache
-No longer grows (obviously only interesting when afflicting children)
-Impotence/Infertility
-Bad Luck: Loses all games of chance, suffers a minor mishap at least once a day
-Stinks like rancid cheese
-Loses all hair
-Nose changed to that of a pig
-Ears changed to that of a mule
-Nobody seems to ever hear a piece of advice given by the cursed, nor any words of love or comfort
-Loses the ability to laugh or smile, as well as the ability to weep
-Smells especially tasty to all kinds of predators, is detectable by the scent ability at ten times the normal range
-All normal animals abhor the cursed
-All plants wilt at a touch
-Turns all metals to lead with a touch
-All food and drink spoils ten times as fast when within 30' fo the cursed
-Loses the ability to feel pain
-Loses the abilitly to smell and taste, or all food and drink tastes bad

More powerful, non-spell, effects (only one of these applies):
-Takes more damage from piercing and slashing attacks: Treat these as wounding weapons
-Healing spells only have half effect
-Takes 50% more damage from one energy type on a failed save
-Gains SR equal to 11+CL against all spells that require a willing target (can drop SR as usual, but requires a standard action)
-Must make a Concentration check (DC 15+spell level) to successfully cast a spell
-Treat as if violated code of conduct: Must Atone to use class features (spellcasting for clerics, lay on hands for paladins and so on)
-Gains immunity to Remove Curse (only interesting when other curses are heaped on the poor victim)
-Gains immunity to one spell that requires a willing target
-Gains the involuntary Rage ability of a Wolverine or Badger
-Gains severe allergy to metal, or water, or something equally common

Have fun!

-Gains immunity to Remove Curse (only interesting when other curses are heaped on the poor victim)

Now that's just mean. How to destroy a character's life 101.

50. All Evil Clerics/Wizards in the multiverse become aware of the above Cursee, his Curse and his exact location at all times. This is not the actual curse, the REAL Curse is that the aformentioned casters become Cursed THEMSELVES and are compelled to find the cursed one with remove curse immunity and heap curses upon him making him the most cursed being ever.

whoa.. anyone get that? Back to work for me :S

51. To vomit uncontrollably whenever a woman they find attractive speaks to them, or touches, etc. (Like Kyle from South Park)

52. Whenever they hear someone speak a certain word, phrase or even language, they immediately become very amorous toward that person. (Like Mr. Addams from the Addams Family)

53. To eat only nauseating mixtures of food so that others can't stand to eat with them. Nothing poisonous mind you, just gorss combos or tipping everything into a bucket and mulching it up.

54. Give them such attrocious table manners than even kobolds can't watch them eat.

55. To have the opposite emotional response to the proper one, such as laughing when they should cry.

56. To have to completely sing or hum the tune of any song they hear even a fragment of.

Erectile Dysfunction, I believe.

Ah. That would explain why I fail to see what the horrible fuss is about; seeing as how I've never understood the juvenile obsession over the whole act anyhow.

57) The victim is an avian magnet; birds of all types swarm and follow him wherever he goes.

58) As 57, but for insects rather than birds.

59) The victim's body breaks down into a composite swarm of extremely tiny blobs; anyone approaching close to the victim will notice this, and anyone within 20' can make a Spot DC 15 check to note it. This is likely to engender a great deal of nausea in others, and the victim most likely must come up with new ways to feed himself, as he is no longer a single solid creature.

60) The victim becomes obsessed with a single rather impolite topic. (Think teenagers in a locker room, mayhap)

61) Randomly, when attempting to draw a weapon, the victim instead draws a fruit.

62) Randomly, when attempting to pull out coins, the victim produces dice, cards, or other instruments of gambling.

63) The victim changes appearance and odor to resemble a rather rotten zombie.

64) The victim's highest and lowest stat scores swap places.

65) The Victim loses the ability to speak or understand Common (or some other language the whole party knows), but gains some extremely obscure language. (Druidic, perhaps? For D20 Modern I'd afflict them with Lojban...)

66) The victim's skin is replaced with a chitin shell.

67) The victim's skin is covered in vividly colored fungus.

68) The victim is afflicted with aphasia. (Really nasty for spellcasters, that.)

As punishment for killing my (very spiteful) character's pet chicken I cursed the fighter in the party in such a way that every day she would have to lay eggs as if she was a chicken of her size. 70. Whenever the character speaks, they use obscure vocabulary and flowery expressions, even when they are saying something relatively simple (similar to OOTS's Vaarsuvius).

71. Whenever the character speaks, they are extremely laconic, using as few words as possible.

Carrying on with this idea.

72. The cursed person must make bad puns every time the opportunity presents itself.

73. The subject can only speak in rhymes, must rhyme what they say with the last speaker, etc.

74. The cursed uses foul language. In this case, it isn't the frequency that gets the character, but the timing. The character slips a foul word in at the most inopportune time. For Example: the party has just been hired by a nobleman and the character says, "Thank you your grace, we really (expletive) appreciate your confidence in us and you won't be (expletive) dissappointed." That might be the only cussing the character does in the whole interaction.

75. The victim can only speak in palindromes.
76. The victim slowly begins to petrify, beginning at their extremities and slowly creeping inward.
77. The victim begins to age rapidly (how rapidly depends on the curse. It could be a year a month, or a week, or a day... Or a really powerful, wicked curse might make you age a year every hour that passes by...)
78. The victim is afflicted with a tendency to stutter and tammer rather badly; particularly bad for spellcasters.
79. The victim gains an allergy to sunlight, rapidly blistering when exposed to any form of ultraviolet radiation. (Which, I believe, is where legends of vampires bursting into flames are alleged to have come from.)
80. The victim must perpetually speak backwards.
81. The victim can no longer abide drinking water, bathing in it, or otherwise having anything to do with water, which can rapidly have serious repercussions.
82. The victim becomes obsessed with a single specific kind of item (copper coins, small crystals, holy symbols, or whatever) and begins to compulsively collect them.

Continuing with the speech impediment curses:

86. Whatever the character says comes out in the form of a question. Really bad when forced into situations where they are forced to answer yes or no (saying yes? or no? to try and get around this does not work).

87. Exact opposite, the character finds themselves unable to ask questions.

Forgive me, Wild Magic from the Magic Traits of a Plane.

From the SRD :

On a plane with the wild magic trait spells and spell-like abilities function in radically different and sometimes dangerous ways. Any spell or spell-like ability used on a wild magic plane has a chance to go awry. The caster must make a level check (DC 15 + the level of the spell or effect) for the magic to function normally.

Many funny things happen when the spell fizzles, hours of fun for DMs with casters amongst their players :D

95. Ever time the PC takes a leak a stream of fire comes out instead and lights flamable objects and has a 50% chance to light the Pc on fire (DC 15.)

Now that's evil.

96. The PCs face is turned upside down, with the exception of the hair.

97. The PCs right leg becomes identical to his left (-4 to your Perform (Dance) skill and Tumble (among other things, probably Balance too))

98. The PC has rapid hair growth, but the hair stops growing to a certain extent (say, 4 inch long arm hair :P). On Elves, they begin to grow facial and body hair akin to the average Human.

99. Your skin flashes neon colors constantly, but changing at a slow pace (nasty for the Rogue).

Edit: Changed -s to numbers

100. Your skin changes texture - becoming hard and scaly for most humanoids, soft and smooth for scaled races; the resulting appearance and texture can cause some very odd questions.

101. The character's linguistic capacity becomes unnecessarily verbose in such a magnificent fashion as to begin to obfuscate the original intent of the phrase being rendered so loquaciously.

102. The character begins to have a specific, unusual kind of animal (finches, blue jays, field mice, or some other harmless creature) follow them everywhere in swarms. "Gasp! An omen!" cry the townsfolk.

103. The character's bones turn rubbery, making them much more flexible but reducing their strength and endurance in turn, and making it difficult to move quickly.

Speaking of cartoonish.

104: When fighting, the character must make outlandish sound effects such as: Blammo!, Swish!, Bonk!, etc.

105: The character develops an annoying catch phrase and associated gesture. Think back the the old Warner Brother cartoons and those of that era.

106: The victim sings and dances for their food, like in that annoying Berries and Creme Starburst (or whatever it is because I always mute it) commercial. Imagine the trouble a big, macho barbarian would have with a curse like that.

Must atempt to wed any lady of 300+lb and rejects lighter ladys as if invisable
That seems more of an Enchantment[Mind-Affecting][Compulsion] to me, and a bit too specific for a curse, unless you're Merlin or something.

Some of these curses are pretty good.
Others..not so good, and frankly , way over the top considering the spells level.

All creatures in the multiverse (including Angels) wanting to eat you for example.
