| Sotha_syl04-24-07, 02:41 PM | Obviously the world of D&D is different fundamentally than our world for many, many reasons. One of those being the ability for many individuals to cast spells. Of course, all spells have their combat uses, and some non combat uses, but how could they be incorporated into everyday life? Of course, they WOULD be, who wouldn't use a Tenser's floating disk to transport heavy cargo? So, just a list of interesting things people would use spells for. I imagine something like this has been done before, but I haven't seen it... So! I'll start. 1. Entirely replacing a city's sewer system with permanent create/destroy water spells cleverly placed in specific places. Expensive? Sure, just about as expensive as an extensive underground tunnel system that guides waste and water out of the city. 2. Small and obvious uses of the mending spell. A ripped piece of clothing, fixing broken windows, fixing wax seals on letters (Dabbing a bit into being sneaky and cleverly covering your tracks.) |

| penchant04-24-07, 03:16 PM | 5. Disintegrate leftovers. Sure its high level, but so is the encounter with your fridge if you don't. 6. Mass Charm - for then the line at the bathroom is REAALLLY long! 7. Remove Disease - For the day after you leave Singapore. 8. Fly - just because. I mean if you can cast it every day.... why wouldn't you? 9. Summon Monster 1 - Who doesn't need an emergency badger every now and then? 10. Magnificent Mansion - House Party in your closet! |

It delves into religion, but come on! :) I won't deny the existence of actual spells, but spells are obviously much more overt and obvious in D&D. I mean, there are Arcane Academies and Wizard Colleges and Guilds, and everyone accepts spellcasting as a reality, whether they think its normal or not is another question... |
| fearadhach04-24-07, 04:39 PM | 11. Prestidigitation to make simple stuff for sale. (ex: take lumps of tin and turn out a fork or spoon every 6 seconds for an hour...) 12. Locate object to find the _)(#*^& TV remote 13. silent image (and its higher-level counterparts) as a teaching tool. (anything powerpoint could be used for, but better) - I have had a cleric who did this. 14. as 7, but for entertainment purposes. (have had a bard who did this. Actually had ranks in 'perform, silent image') 15. Wall of ice: skating rink for the grandkids. :D 16. Tenser's disk: speaking platform 17. enlarge/reduce person, animate rope, telekensis, spider climb: construction 18. stoneskin: endure hail storm 19. sleep: run a sleep clinic. 20. stoneskin/barkskin: GET OFF MY LAWN YOU #^(%)& KIDS!! (stolen from Baulder's Gate) 21. zone of truth: REALLY screw up a politician's day when he's about to give a speach. (or cause a major debate to go to pieces) 22. reverse gravity: amusement park...upside down slides. 23. Phase door (invisible door): amusement park. Maze with invisible doors... Anyway, there are a few off the top of my head. :D |

| Kimokeo04-24-07, 10:46 PM | 24. Yeah, I used to kill dragons, a tarrasque once in a blue moon. Now, I just take of those little pesks. Ants, termites, rats. You name it, I can take care of it. Any spell pretty much works. I found Fireball is not good for indoor exterminating practice. 25. Clairvoyance/Clairaudience - I'm a P.I. for hire. 26. Need to send a telegram? Message. 27. Stage hand. I saw John Travolta with Olivia preparing for their musical and gave them a little Grease. 28. Fly is good, but if you want to ride like the wind, Phantom Steed. 29. Unseen Servant - I love Mickey Mouse. |
| Kimokeo04-24-07, 10:48 PM | 30. Problems with people not paying the rent? Can't get them out? Stinking Cloud |
