| Argo05-02-07, 08:39 PM | Hey folks. My current character has Mage Hand as a spell-like ability, and I find myself not using it very often. So, I figured I'd come here and try to find some nifty ideas so I can put my SLAs to good use. I hereby commission a list. A list of 1001 things. 1001 Fun Things to do with Mage Hand! ...well? What are you waiting for? Post, already! |
| Oni_Archon05-02-07, 11:55 PM | its call the mages shotgun.... take mage hand. take bag of caltrops. you do the math from here. for giggles get exploding or jumping caltrops |
| Ozzymandias05-03-07, 12:07 AM | Jedi mind trick? Lift the skirt of a delicate elven princess while she's engaged in a private conversation with the king's eldest son (requires additional sneaking on your part, but it'd be fun to pull it off). |
| nytemare370105-03-07, 12:27 AM | not my idea: the 5 lb "push" Possible targets: Eyes naughty bits nasal cavities use your imagination ;) |
| Adamaro2305-03-07, 12:39 AM | 4. Use mage hand to knock over someone's drink at a tavern....BARFIGHT!!!! |
| Solo_Phoenix05-03-07, 12:44 AM | ...but it'd be fun to pull it off). You could do that as well if it wasn't securely attached :P |
| Myree05-03-07, 12:57 AM | First, Phoenix, THAT was good! Now, on a more serious note, for the contribution... 5. Got a pit or crevace to get past, but no easy way to secure that grapnel that I just KNOW you remembered to buy? Well, Mage Hand can drop it RIGHT where it can do the most good, even if a throw would be near impossible. In fact, my son employed this trick in a mine-shaft to hook it onto the back of a support beam -- I made it take the characters pulling in the rope to really set it, but I had to give him credit for coming up with it. 6. Pull that lever you've been just dying to try, without having to die to try. 7. In a crowded area, have it follow some guy, just pointing at him -- nothing else, just pointing. SOMEONE has got to wonder why... |
| MrSpaceBear05-03-07, 03:36 AM | 8. Takeing fire from a skilled archer, cast the spell then next turn ready an action, keep useing it to push the bow as he fires. Its invisible right!:elf: 9. Pluck the bolt out of an aimed cross bow 10. Push a mages hand as he casts, if your out of dispells, watch the fire ball, aimed at you, land in the far off village.:mage: 11. Cheat at cards 12. Harass the elderly 13. Trip some one with a 5lbs. push to their left ankle as they walk:pint: 14. Push an enemy off a steep ledge.:ghosted: 15. Spring an obvious trap.:bump: 16. Some one you dont like talking to your woman, use the hand to push his jaw a little while he talks, make him look crazy. :twitch: 17. Make some one think their house is haunted, and only you can excorsize the deamon! for a price.... :$$: 18. Get rid of a partial desgise, by knocking of a hat or hood.:tiphat: 19. Push that fighters sword just a little...:duel: thats about it for me.... |
| sonofdrizzt05-03-07, 08:45 AM | Make an orc think it was his buddy that poked him in the ass. Watch the blood bath! Just as the red dragon goes to char broil you, tickle the inside of his nasal cavity:dragon: |
| nephsytis05-03-07, 10:12 AM | .22 put 'rabbit ears' behind the paladin's head 23 carry a flag with your adventure teams logo on it. or just "go team!" 24 get it to keep the beat by clicking its fingers 25 arm wrestle the spectral hand so you can bet 26 turn the hot water off while the paladin is showering 27 stir your potions while its brewing 28 pay for and bring your drink from the bar (snapping fingers to get attention) 29 picking upstuff you may not want to touch (including the toad famillar) |
| Sajek05-03-07, 12:53 PM | BBEG chasing you? Mage Hand to undo his belt buckle! His pants will fall and he will trip! :D |
| Thane2642505-03-07, 01:13 PM | 30. Make the main course, like a game hen, jump up and walk around on the table, preferably just before it is about to be carved. 31. Keep scooting the tankard out of the grasp of the really drunk tavern patron. 32. Trip the rude scullery maid when she is carrying the chamber pots for emptying first thing in the morning. Easy to do if you can lift up the edge of a carpet or the like. 33. When the stately yet arrogant knight rides by, goose his horse and try to look surprised as it bolts down the street. 34. Pinch out a candle every time the rude tavern wench tries to light it. 35. Create an impromtu ghost by levetating a small sheet just behind you and run around screaming for help. 36. Digust the vegetarian in the tavern by having a meat dish, again small game hens work great, by having it walk over and do a jig in their salad bowl. Also, in a Second Edition book, there was an advanced form of mage hand that allowed a sense of touch. That would make some of the other suggestions in this thread even more interesting. |
| Argo05-04-07, 12:36 PM | 37. Lift the religious idol off the Dark Altar while the Dark priest has the whole cult chanting wildly. Have it float high above the altar. Pair with ghost sound for added enjoyment. |
| Kassil05-04-07, 04:19 PM | 38. Smack the tankard of someone just as they're taking a drink. 39. Topple a barmaid's platter, if they use them to carry food and drink around. 40. Cause a distraction in a shop by knocking things on the other side of the room over. 41. Poise your dagger over the head of an annoying PC or NPC and inform them of the legend of the Sword of Damocles. |
| rtschiff05-04-07, 05:08 PM | 42. Trip someone down an infinite staircase. 42b. On the off chance that you can't find an infinite staircase, settle for a finite one. It'll still hurt. |
| Kassil05-05-07, 07:42 PM | 43. Learn to play an inturment hands-free. 44. Hold your pipe/cigar/goblet/etc to surprise people. 45. Have both hands free while writing or reading. 46. Steal the guard's keys. 47. Steal the guard's belt. 48. Steal the guard's moneypouch. 49. With a stick, poke people while looking innocent and startled. |
| Toast_recon05-05-07, 11:20 PM | 50:phase 1 Your rival wizard pi**ing you off? knock the extra large ink bottle he's been bragging about into his spell book. 50:phase 2 watch the fireworks(or lack thereof!) |
| This_Dude05-06-07, 08:29 AM | Sadly, most abuses of Mage Hand don't really work. You point your finger at an object and can lift it and move it at will from a distance. As a move action, you can propel the object as far as 15 feet in any direction, though the spell ends if the distance between you and the object ever exceeds the spell’s range. You can only point your finger at One nonmagical, unattended object weighing up to 5 lb. You can lift it and move it, but you can't "manipulate" it - so no turning over a bag to dump stuff out. You could just drop it by ceasing to concentrate, but it'd fall normally. You can't take a bolt out of the bad guy's crossbow, because it's attended. You can't poke someone in the eye. You can't scratch your crotch with it. You can't take anything away from someone if it is on their person (belt, pouch, keys). |

That doesn't stop people from coming up with cool-sounding ideas that a DM who regards fun > rules might allow to happen just because they sound cool. |

Well as long as were saying that its ok to cheat, then im kinda partial to darth vader choking people... 5lbs should be enough. |
| Callista05-06-07, 02:14 PM | I've always wanted an improved mage-hand spell... something you can use for all those attended items, and something that lets you manipulate stuff, like tying knots or squishing something or whatever. Something less than unseen servant, but better than mage hand... |
| Kassil05-06-07, 02:18 PM | Well as long as were saying that its ok to cheat, then im kinda partial to darth vader choking people... 5lbs should be enough. Wow, great value judgement there. ZOMG HAX. I did not say anything about cheating. To spell out the intent of what I said, it was that by Rule Zero, if the DM thinks something is cool, then the DM might allow these uses. Y'know, that whole interactive/consensual storytelling thing that the game was built on before it was decided that there had to be a feat and an elf for everything? |
| Toast_recon05-06-07, 04:27 PM | my ink thing would work, and could actually be a SERIOUS problem for the other caster. The dm could rule that the last 20 pages are now unreadable, and the rest require some type of spot or search or spellcraft check to read. Man, I gotta try that. |
| SephDragoon05-06-07, 05:10 PM | If a dagger falls on top of someone... would it still do dagger damage? Cus, daggers are small enough that mage hand could take one, hover it over a guard's/commoner's head etc... and let it drop. From high enough, that's a bit of damage no? But, these are fun uses, not devious. 51. Make the Cleric use up his turning attempts per day by making him think a ghost is about (spectral hand did this for me, but mage hand works too). 52. Screw mage hand and grab telekinesis... no end to the fun there ^_^ |
