| Bob the Great09-20-05, 08:22 PM | i was inspired by dooplis's sig, and thought to make this thread just cause. try to keep em numbered 1.charm person + diplomacy = ally 2.enalrge person + reach weapon = 25 ft area of AoO/trips How do you figure that? Large creatures have reach of 10 feet. Reach weapons give you an additional 5 feet. Thats 15 feet. 3.hold person + coup de grace = gg BBEG 4.spider climb + hide = bonus to hide checks (not RAW, but id DM it that way. really, do guards search the celings too?) Or you could just cast a spell like chameleon. 5.hypnotism + villiagers = hordes of weak allies No. Suggestion affects 2d4 HD, a horde is hardly 2d4. Second, it lets you make 1 suggestion as if they were 2 steps more friendly, it must be short and reasonable (good luck with that). 6.shrink item + ballista bolt = true arrow of slaying Damn that's good. They get hit with an arrow and they're dead. With no save. Thats like a 3rd level spell no save kill. Sweeeeet. Just wait till you use empowered shrink. You could get an arrow 4 times taller than a human with empowered shrink. :evillaugh: 7. a gray bag of tricks sown inside a hat = true magic trick(lol) Not that useful though. 8.fog cloud + ghost sound(screaming death and blood) = intimidate check by good DM blood isn't a sound, so ghost sound can't do it. And you don't need 2 spells to intimidate people. You can just use the intimidate skill. have fun(dooplis) and keep em coming Shrink item + projectile = death. Shrink item on anythinng that gets chucked into stuff, cannonballs, arrows etc. Then dismiss it after you get a hit, and the target is exploded. Gate + elemental plane of water = Uber-create water. A 5x5 wide tunnel of water. That would cause knocking prone, damage, and in a small room, drowning. |
| Purkake09-21-05, 10:03 AM | Actually a reach weapon dobles your natural reach SO with a longspear you would threaten 10-20ft and with a spiked chain a 0-20ft. And the shrunken object enlarges when it hits the target, so you hit him with a really small arrow and then a big bolt falls on his toes? What a killer tactic :) |
| Iver Gearsham09-21-05, 01:14 PM | Fabricate wood/iron/stonewall + Shrink Item = total cover on demand with Shuttered arrow slits if you get fancy. Transmute Rock to Mud + Shrink Item = slip and slid for foes + Dispell Magic = Stone overcoat for foes. :evillaugh Poymorph any Object :plotting: Hydra in to horse have it sold/captured to foe then Dispell at your lesure :w00t: . Polmorph Any Object any nasty monsters into mice throw them at beholder/mage with Antimagic Field :pile:  :help: :fight!: |

Second, it lets you make 1 suggestion as if they were 2 steps more friendly, it must be short and reasonable (good luck with that). i suggest to these 1 HD commoners that they treat me helpfully in the future. as a lvl 5 sorc, i could do that 10 times a day, 20 commoners a day, for 2 weeks while the fighter heals his arm. Damn that's good. They get hit with an arrow and they're dead. With no save. Thats like a 3rd level spell no save kill. Sweeeeet. Just wait till you use empowered shrink. You could get an arrow 4 times taller than a human with empowered shrink. :evillaugh: :D ownage, but you cant empower shrink item, its not random... still, a normal shrunk longbow arrow deals 6d8, thats fairly gibbing, and i didnt think about the physical effect of a gargantuan arrow in your chest. good job Not that useful though. nah, but its funny blood isn't a sound, so ghost sound can't do it. And you don't need 2 spells to intimidate people. You can just use the intimidate skill. i meant blood as in murder, ya know, scary sounds. and yes you could just intim, but only one creature within 30ft of you that you threaten IIRC, but for a gnomish illusionist with 12 cha, and no ranks in intim (1(cha)-4(size) = -3 on the dice), that isnt a valid option. so, useing this, i'd let him use his ranks in Know(arcana) and INT, instead of Intim and CHA 15) as a sorc, cast explosive runes on a page in a book every spell slot that you can, every day that you use as down time. then cram the book into an animate dead skelly. once you meet the BBEG, have the skelly run in and intiate a graple, while you ready to dispell when the skelly gets within 5 ft of BBEG. when you dispel the runes, he takes 6d6 times the number of runes you cast on the book, no save. if you cast as a lvl 10 sorc, thats 14 casts a day, for every day you cast at the book. Even without empower, the arrow would grow 16 times bigger. A 1cm thick arrow would be a half a foot. can you think how painful that would be, having that happen. Realistically, they would die. Bob gets shot with a shrunk, 1cm thick ballista bolt. Joe the mage dismisses the shrink. The arrow in Bob grows 16 times bigger Bob is shredded. He would die from blood loss if he somehow didnt have any organs destroyed by it. nah, but its funny i meant blood as in murder, ya know, scary sounds. and yes you could just intim, but only one creature within 30ft of you that you threaten IIRC, but for a gnomish illusionist with 12 cha, and no ranks in intim (1(cha)-4(size) = -3 on the dice), that isnt a valid option. so, useing this, i'd let him use his ranks in Know(arcana) and INT, instead of Intim and CHA Ahhh, i see. Personally i'd allow him a caster level check instead of know(arcana), but thats just me. 15) as a sorc, cast explosive runes on a page in a book every spell slot that you can, every day that you use as down time. then cram the book into an animate dead skelly. once you meet the BBEG, have the skelly run in and intiate a graple, while you ready to dispell when the skelly gets within 5 ft of BBEG. when you dispel the runes, he takes 6d6 times the number of runes you cast on the book, no save. if you cast as a lvl 10 sorc, thats 14 casts a day, for every day you cast at the book. You have to area dispel it though (The runes are triggered by a failed dispel check, and by being read, but not by being affected by another rune. |
| Purkake09-21-05, 04:56 PM | Oh, FYI, people in DnD are supposed to look all around themselves so you could be in the celing but no hide checks, unless it is dark there and the guards have no darkvision/tourches. And it has been ruled that shrink item can't enlarge if there is nor enough space, so no shrunk bread that will blow people up from inside and no arrows that blow victims up from inside... |
| l33t Shinobi09-21-05, 05:04 PM | Like i said, that would be instant kill. Even without empower, the arrow would grow 16 times bigger. He would die from blood loss if he somehow didnt have any organs destroyed by it. blast, must fully read spells b4 posting. the shrink itme is dispelled on a forcefull contact, so no massive damge on inter enlarging Ahhh, i see. Personally i'd allow him a caster level check instead of know(arcana), but thats just me. intim is a skill, so it'll usually have (lvl +3) ranks in it, so maybe caster lvl +3, but even then, youre penalizing a split caster for a good technique. maybe a spellcraft check>now(arcana) thatd be better Yep. You have to area dispel it though (The runes are triggered by a failed dispel check, and by being read, but not by being affected by another rune. yeh, i thought that the dismiss function was the same as the dispel function, which it isnt. but a lvl 3 spell slot to 1hit KO a BBEG is still good. (i saw this in a sig once) 16)augry the Deck of Many Things. it will either say that the next card is good, or bad, or indifferent. that way, you'll never had a bad pull. |
| l33t Shinobi09-22-05, 09:10 PM | 17) wish for an infinite amount of clubs to fall above the BBEG's head. since clubs have a value of zero(or at most, 5 silver) you would create 50 000 clubs to appear above his head. at 1 damage each minimum, not counting falling dmg, hes still dead. woot, keep them coming. |
| spectralphoenix09-23-05, 02:17 AM | If you read the rules on falling objects, each club would have to fall 70 feet to deal any damage, so this tactic won't work indoors. Even assuming the DM decided not to give a reflex save and had the wish work as intended, you spent 5000 XP and a ninth level spell on the wish. |
| smrtgmp09-23-05, 07:28 AM | prismatic wall + TK thrust = one dead tank |
| arbanafal09-23-05, 08:55 AM | I was planning on buying a gate scroll made by a 20th level caster and gate an efreet with it. I would gladly ask it to grand me 3 wishes...the last wish would be another gate scroll. The first two wishes could be used for almost anything...even if I just wished money it would theoretically give me a profit. Unfortunaly my DM didn't allow this...maybe it's for my own good. Spellwise, I was thinking of the combo: Spectral hand + wand of vamiric touch (10th) Lots of temporary hit points for one hour. These could find many uses. I'm still searching for a spell I read somewhere, which allowed you to sacrifice hit points to heal someone else. Would make a great combo. Each vampiric touch would average for 35 hit points. 70 hit points in two rounds would more than double my character's current HP. Lots of HP to spend on the party ;) BTW: I'm thinking of sneaky ways to use magic jar. Even if my golem, or skeletal minions carry my body, I'm still a bit too vulnerable. Any ideas? |
| Zeful09-23-05, 10:42 AM | 20.) Large hord + small quarters + small bag filled with beads of force = Claymore chaos :D ohh it'd be better to cast explosive runes on 50+ sheets of paper than use bookbinding to create one book buit make sure you bind the book backward (like a grapic novel) so you don't read the runes See the spell combos thread for that and other combos that people rip arpart. use hypo to make people trust you do it everyone it works on than have them overthrow the king then become king at 1st level! |
| ReadError09-23-05, 10:59 AM | Evard's black tentacles + Wall of fire around it with the heat going inside :) |
| Iver Gearsham09-23-05, 12:13 PM | BTW: I'm thinking of sneaky ways to use magic jar. Even if my golem, or skeletal minions carry my body, I'm still a bit too vulnerable. Any ideas? Look at Ghostwalk its by wotc it has maniquine bodys that can be possesed they can be made very sturdy. For your other idea of having your skels haul around your body how about a Steel coffin with a secret compartment with your magical back up goods in it. Now adventuers/government patrols will try and kill you for traveling with skels So dress your body in common cloths and have a Bottle of Air in there with you with no obvious magical gear. Next have at least two other coffins with live people in them so if you get caught and your host body killed you can pretend to be a victim of the Evil Necromancer and bluff your way till you get the chance for revenge :evillaugh You could also stash your body in a Iron Golem as they are hollow. You could also Polymorph Any Object your body to a smaller form for easy transport/hiding. Even though the spell tranfrorms your body some Dms rule that all spells travel with your spirit this can be realy Evil as you can hide out in a fortress/dungon/city jump into anyone and poof they become a Stone Giant! or other monster and you can go wild in the blood lust :gah: :fight!: |
| arbanafal09-23-05, 01:54 PM | Hey I like your thinking. Body in golem...that sounds munchkin enough to be cool ;) I shouldn't forget to build a hatch in it though  And thanks for the ghostwalk tip, will definitaly check it out. Ooh, ooh got another combo: For the teamplayers or multiclassers: Force Cage + Create water (medium sized water prison) |
| l33t Shinobi09-23-05, 03:08 PM | 22)forcecage+cloudkill its like the last one, but IMO a lil cooler, gassing them and all. Feh, the SRD gave this one away, but its an odlie but a goodie 23)sympathy the gem used by trap the soul\ (best for Sorcs) 24)ask you DM if you can bluff that arcane mark is a symbol of death for a bonus to intimidate checks not sure if this one would work... 25)charm person and ask him to count the cracks in a brick wall, while you CdG, or SA if nothing else. it'll end the spell, cuz you cant charm a corpse. :D |
| ninja109-23-05, 03:29 PM | BTW: I'm thinking of sneaky ways to use magic jar. Even if my golem, or skeletal minions carry my body, I'm still a bit too vulnerable. Any ideas? check this out: 2) When they get there, she will cast Meld with Stone on her familiar. She then casts Magic Jar, and possesses a ghoul. Next she casts Shrink Item on her lifeless body, which her familiar picks up. The familiar then melds into a 1 ft. diameter stone from one of the giant's packs. The zombie dragon takes this stone. | l33t Shinobi09-23-05, 05:06 PM | 26)(great for outright humiliating your foes) cast illusory wall that looks like an iron or stone wall. then, cast wall of iron or wall of stone five feet away from the illusionary wall. when the enemies find out the first wall is fake, they'll think the second one is too. then, when you hear the lovely sound of your enemies running straight into the real wall, cast gust of wind to crush your enemies with the real wall. |
| ninja109-23-05, 05:18 PM | As a big-time undead fan, I love to find more uses for the spell Animate Dead. Thanks to Libris Mortis, and Destruction Retribution, I like to Animate Dead and command them into pit traps and use Illusory Wall to mask the Pit Trap, then release them from my control quota and go Animate more. If the fall doesn't kill intruders, or the undead don't finish them, then the blast of negative energy from the Destruction Retribution as the undead are defeated will surely ruin someone's day. Another variant of that is to chain Animated Dead augmented with Destruction Retribution into alcoves. Reduce the undead to 1 HP before releasing it from your command quota. Then, cover the alcoves with a thin curtain and explosive runes. :D |
| l33t Shinobi09-24-05, 09:25 AM | 29) minor creation to make black lotus extract, a very nasty poison(dc 20 fort, 3d6 con/3d6 con). use a massive amount of minor creations to make several gallons. then cast many many prestidigitation spells on it so it tastes like ale. :gift: serve to the nearest evil party. :gift: with ice. :pint: and a cherry. :tiphat: |
| jameswilliamogle09-24-05, 11:27 AM | Nothing to add, just a comment: Everyone is talking about using Dispel Magic + Explosive Runes; I like the combo as well, but assuming that you have to make the dispel check against yourself you have only a 50% chance of it succeeding (assuming you are using an Explosive Runes prepared at your current level: d20 + level vs. d20 + level), and less than that if the Runes are old; instead, simply use 1st level Erase scrolls (d20 + 1 (1st level caster) vs. DC 15) for a 65% chance of success instead... Likewise, someone mentioned binding the book backwards so that you don't set off the trap: instead, simply train your party to not set them off (as per spell description). Problem solved. I tried to find out what happens to an Explosive Runes when the material it was written on was destroyed, but the runes were not, but I never got a satisfactory answer. edit: I just realized something: the way Explosive Runes is worded, you (the original caster) can't dispel them to set them off... it states "Another creature can remove them with a successful dispel magic or erase spell, but attempting to dispel or erase the runes and failing to do so triggers the explosion." Of course, it makes sense that Wizards with the spell would freely exchange Rune covered items... |

| jameswilliamogle09-24-05, 03:52 PM | The idea is to fail at dispelling the E runes by chosing to cast at minimum caster level. Can one do that? Also, it's a moot point, since "Another creature can remove them with a successful dispel magic or erase spell, but attempting to dispel or erase the runes and failing to do so triggers the explosion." means you can't dispel your own runes for the 6d6 damage effect... give the runes to the cleric to use. |
| SureFoot09-26-05, 12:32 PM | 30) Bigby's Crushing Hand (or Grasping) + Bigby's Clenched Fist just a very, very funny image to see a guy squished by a huge hand, while also being pummelled mercilessly on the head (probalby the only visible taregt) by another huge hand. 31) Bigby's Grasping (or greater) Hand + Cloudkill. Keep the bugger in there--it's a higher spell slot than forcecage, but doesn't cost 1,500 gp a pop. And it can be redirected to a new target; AND it's unaffected by the Cloudkill. |
| Zeful09-26-05, 12:54 PM | Srcy+ Teleport W/out error+ Iron body+ Major Creation+ Craft (building)+ Bottles of Air= lunar base :D great for the BBEG :evillaugh What do you think of that? |
| l33t Shinobi09-26-05, 02:22 PM | nice, with some tele circles in his "lair" for the PC's to get up there... that would be hot. heres one 33)bag of holding IV + bottles of air + 1499 pounds of flying ninja gomes= perfect assault squad. pack the ninjas into the bag, give them bottles of air, and put thte bag in your pocket. walk past the guards, and unleash the horde where horde equals around 30 gnomes, all with swarmfighter feat. woot. |
| Matafleous09-26-05, 02:47 PM | this idea is fun as an idea but im pretty sure that its game mechanics wouldnt work. anyways... you cast stone to mud, then reverse gravity, then mud to stone... basically you have glued them to the ceiling. another fun idea is to then cast stone spikes on the rock keeping your enemy in place... impales him. but i dont think that reverse gravity lasts long enough for you to cast to spells. though possibly if you used a quickened reverse gravity. i dont know it would just be fun. |

Love it! :evillaugh :w00t: You can use Dispell Magic to turn the Mud back to Rock. Reverse Gravity lasts rnds/level so at minimum you should have 15 rnds to act. Why not do it so they fall and shatter on the ground? :dancin: |
| Valgaav09-26-05, 10:42 PM | a personal favorite, with a single first-level spell: Caltrops + Grease. they'll be pulling shards of metal outta their butt for weeks |
| Realms of Chaos09-26-05, 11:43 PM | Flesh to stone+stone to mud+ a little reshaping+mud to stone+stone to flesh= an enemy that looks much like a gibbering mouther or other such abberation, with a craft skill, you might be able to craft the mud into something discernabe, like a desk. Oh, how fun! |
| RavenDrake09-27-05, 12:01 AM | Minor Image (Pitfall) + Trapdoor over a pitfall = Surprised party. They find the pit, test it, realize it's illusion, then walk across the pit without testing for traps. |

| Mysticaloctopus10-27-05, 08:33 AM | A friend and i used to indulge in 20th level sorceror duels, or as wizards without the need to prepare in advance, for fun. My trademark was nastiness above them + reverse gravity, and once he got used to that, i'd run in, polymorph into a tree-legged person to anchor myself in, then do the grav thing. He used to polymorph me into a duck, so i invented protection from ducks But remember - primatic wall + reverse gravity. Or place a wall of force above them, then use a greater floating disk and hold person. Splat! Hmm, other goodness. . .put delayed blast fireball pellets on a floating disk and send it over castle battlements, it'll drop and stop 3 feet above the ground, by the attackers. Explosive runes on a newpaper and leave it in the BBEG's private loo. Nobody can resist the loo-read-rune-blaster! Or maybe, inspired by the bloke who was a peeping tom in an outhouse, a trap that launches delayed fireballs up from a garderobe? AACK! not good. at all. ack. nice and simple does it, hold person, floating disk, cliff, dispell. Substitute cliff for top of BBEG's castle, volcano, roof of tower et cetera. Why the floating disk? because they get to see it coming so much better. Nothing like letting the PCs get back at the child-murdering gnome lich! nobody suspects a gnome of being evil! Halflings are sneaky, elves are flighty, dwarves bear grudges and humand and half-orcs are generally power-hungry. But the gnome who warms your underwear for you in the morning (see the prestidigitations thread) in the white dragon (who he's in charge of)'s lair? nobody suspected him of being the mastermind! Edit: Just saw the post above. I AM IIIROON MAAAAAN! da-na-na-na-na-naaaah! Nah, that'd be iron body + presto for the colouring-in. Then, boots of flying and gloves of scorching ray and you're in. |
| ninja110-27-05, 12:08 PM | But remember - primatic wall + reverse gravity. But remember, remember - prismatic walls are verticle.... ;) |
