| Fanged Fremont10-12-05, 05:29 PM | Yay! My first 1001 thread. In complete Adventurer it's mentioned that you can sneak attack with spells that you have to roll to hit with. This list is to compile all those spells and other spells to use in conjuction with sneak attack. I'll start off with a couple of my low level favorites. 1. Melf's Acid Arrow. Acid in your eye! 2. EDITZORS! Critical Strike. It's like I'm a rogue 3 or 4 levels higher plus I get a better chance to crit, (great when I'm also full power attacking with my goliath great hammer X4 critical). It takes a swift action to cast. What's not to love? |
| bolgar10-12-05, 06:03 PM | 3. Vampiric touch: This one is really evil, becauise you get the damage you deal as temporary hitpoints, including the sneak attack damage. |
| Karelzarath10-12-05, 06:12 PM | 4-13: Any of the 10 orb of x spells from Complete Arcane. 14: disintegrate 15: scorching ray (personal fav) |
| Vaelan10-12-05, 07:03 PM | Acid Splash Ray of Frost Meteor Swarm |
| Osedox10-12-05, 08:46 PM | Ray of Enfeeblement. No saving throw damage to Str as well as negative energy sneak attack damage. true true but that is a pittance compared to the damage that can be delt with a Enervation spell (1d4Neagative levels+Xd6Negative Energy Damage!) so... 19. Enervation also Acid Splash is the best just because what does a wand of Acid splash cost? like 375gp? So any rogue with any ranks in UMD should invest in one, it doesent allow SR and uses a RTA which most rogues should be able to handle quite easily due to their high Dex. |
| Rulebook10-12-05, 08:58 PM | also i belive an attack woul have to deal damage to be used with a sneak attack, so ray of feeb wouldnt work (it applies a penalty) but Ray of Frost works wonderfully. |
| RavenDrake10-12-05, 09:21 PM | Rulebook: Nope. ANY spell which requires a Touch attack(whether melee or ranged) can apply sneak attack damage. That damage is modified by the spell(for example: Ray of Enfeeblement uses negative energy to drain strength, so therefore it deals 1d6 points of negative energy damage with a sneak attack). Of course, where that comes into question is spells like Vampiric Touch and the Healing spells... Despite what Bolgar said, I've yet to see an official ruling on allowing the Sneak attack damage from Vampirc touch to grant you it's damage as temporary HP... and for now, I have to say NO, it deals damage but dosen't grant you extra temp HP. Now... as for other spells to use... 20. Produce Flame: A great spell. It can be used both touch and ranged touch and isn't that epensive to get wands of or employ UMD for... |

That damage is modified by the spell(for example: Ray of Enfeeblement uses negative energy to drain strength, so therefore it deals 1d6 points of negative energy damage with a sneak attack). This is incorrect. The spell must require an attack roll and deal damage of some sort. RoE inflicts a penalty rather than dealing damage, so you cannot use it to deliver a sneak attack. In fact CA specifically mentions Ray of Enfeeblement as a spell that can't be used to sneak attack. 21) Parching Touch from sandstorm. 1d6 dessication damage with possible Con damage and iterative attacks. Very nice. |
| Fanged Fremont10-13-05, 09:21 AM | hmmm. how'd I miss that part about ray of enfeeblement? Don't I look like the silly one? EDIT/ADDED: Looking through my copy of Complete Adventurer I don't see anything about sneak attacking with a spell. Must have been in Complete Arcane which would explain how I missed the party about the spell having to actually do damage since I don't own that one. Yay for having legitimate excuses! |
| cwslyclgh10-13-05, 03:32 PM | 22. Searing Light (for those cleric/rogues) |
| Wyrd Bearer10-13-05, 03:51 PM | Blah, time to apologize to my players :embarrass Apparently you cannot make a chained sneak attack. |
| Purkake10-13-05, 03:54 PM | Chain lightning doesn't have an attack roll. And I think that chained Eldritch blast would follow the volley rules. |
| Wyrd Bearer10-13-05, 04:01 PM | Chain lightning doesn't have an attack roll. And I think that chained Eldritch blast would follow the volley rules.Yeah, I caught the chain lightning myself. But I still think that I've interpreted it correctly, chained eldritch blast requires a seperate roll for each target, unlike a volley which requires a single roll to hit. *edit* Oh wait, I'm dumb. Scratch mine from the list. |
| IMarvinTPA10-13-05, 05:40 PM | Blink and Improved/Greater Blink. These spells deny your opponents their dex, thus granting you sneak attack! And protects you at the same time. IMarv |
