| Edymnion08-16-04, 11:07 PM | Yes, I know, 3.5 removed the Dull Gray Ioun Stone from the list, but hey, that doesn't stop us from using that wonderful little item. So lets get this thread off into it's next reincarnation! Real or comical uses, its all fair game. 1) Get a dozen of them, paint them black and yellow, and run around screaming that you're being attacked by killer bees. 2) Glue little wings on them, and run around with a butterfly net trying to catch it. 3) Cast Continual Light on one as a hand's free torch 4) Use Prestidigitation to change their color to fool your enemies. |
| Dracoulis The Phyrexian08-17-04, 12:06 AM | Actually, in 3.5 psionics, a person can extra 1 power point out of a dull gray stone, after which it distintegrates. Thus, it's a really, really, REALLY cheap cognizance crystal! I suppose one might be able to use them as sling stones, as well. |
| flyingmoose08-17-04, 12:19 AM | 5) Hang decorations from them around the holidays. 6) Pretend to be a radar array. 7) Dress up as the sun and be The Solar System for Halloween. 8) Stuff a bunch of them into a geode and market it as an Ioun Boulder. 9) Stick one inside a hollow glass eye and teach the wearer how to activate it. What could be scarier than someone's eye floating out of their head and taking up an orbit 1d3 feet away from it? |
| Aramek08-17-04, 03:12 AM | 10) Wear so many and ask the DM for a circumstance bonus on your Intimidate check. "YOU FACE THE VERY POWER OF THE COSMOS!" 11) Get a hundred of them, paint them chrome, hang self upside-down from rafters, and offer "Mobile Disco Ball" to children's parties. 12) Mess up beds while sleeping with them on. |

Flaming eye = cool. :D http://img30.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| flyingmoose08-17-04, 03:31 AM | 13) Play catch with yourself by flinging them near a willing participant's head and having them slingshot around it like in Armageddon. |
| Aimless Wanderer08-17-04, 01:49 PM | the continous flame, i use that all the time. even in 3.5 (why in Pelor's name did they take that away?) anyways... 4) Use Prestidigitation to change their color to fool your enemies. i have soooo got to use that, even if its on the BBEG.... oh the dissapointment.... well, that said.... what's that one game where you have a volleyball on a rope, and the rope is attached to a tall pole, and you hafta hit it so it goes around the pole enough so it can't spin any more, while another person tries to do the same thing he other way? 14. the name of the game i can't figure out, as described above 15. do something similar to paper football, but a touchdown is plink'n it so it starts orbiting the other guy's head, or, just maybe, plink'n it so it stays in an empty eyeball socket 16. make a maypole, but using mage hand to control the up's and down's because your lazy. |
| psionichamster08-17-04, 02:02 PM | that would be "tetherball" and that would be funny with ioun stones 17. paint them pink and yellow, and have them emitting ghost sounds of "tweet" "tweet" a la warner bros. 18. get enough of them, gild them, instant halo! 19. teach the physics of the atom, your head being the nucleus, the stones electrons. 20. exectutive adventurer desk, er...head toys |
| shadowflamedancer08-17-04, 03:40 PM | 21. Get a large mass of them in a draw-string bag cirling your head, rig a seat to the string with use rope/magic. Now you have a cheap tilt-a-whirl! |
| Edymnion08-17-04, 09:44 PM | 22. Glue little mirrors to them so your Cha 18 Sorcerer can always check to make sure his hair is in just the right position. |
| [GSV] Kirstar08-18-04, 03:40 AM | have several and use them to enhance your head butt damage. use then to keep the flys away in hot countries attach fans for instant breezes disquise them as real ioun stones, mix them in with your real stones to prevent enemies from called shotting your real stones |
| BlaineTog08-18-04, 03:51 AM | 27. Kill stuff, among other things (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=2518704#post2518704). :D [/shameless plug] |
| Aimless Wanderer08-18-04, 03:28 PM | no more ideas for the moment, just comments psionic, thx for naming tetherball instant halo - we had a pally (half celestial maybe?) that just had an ioun stone custom made in that shape, with continuous flame. iirc, he later had daylight placed on it, and kept walking around saying, "Squint or Divert thy eyes, lest you be blinded by my beauty" teaching chem: one guy had a cont flame ioun stone, and took another guys, and said Look! I'm noble now! wow.... we're such nerds (sry about that comment, its just true, at least for my ol' group) |
| Kaminton08-18-04, 09:48 PM | Get a couple thousand of them... if they're all flying around your head, that's decent cover :) |
| Edymnion08-18-04, 09:49 PM | Kaminton's was number 28, btw. |
| Harmor08-18-04, 10:33 PM | 29. Use them as Sling stones (bypasses 5/magic!!!) |
| Aimless Wanderer08-18-04, 11:48 PM | Get a couple thousand of them... if they're all flying around your head, that's decent cover cover.... for your enemy? with so many of those lil' buggers around your face, you prolly couldnt see anything just a thought |
| shadowflamedancer08-19-04, 02:36 PM | Originally posted by Aimless Wanderer cover.... for your enemy? with so many of those lil' buggers around your face, you prolly couldnt see anything just a thought Well, you could just walk close to your enemy and have him get bashed by several thousand small rocks. . . . Or use Lightning Bolt. :D |
| derfenrirwolv08-19-04, 05:01 PM | 30: tie a peice of yarn to it. Felines must make a dc 20 will save or start playing with it. |
| [GSV] Kirstar08-20-04, 03:19 AM | bast continual flame on them...... |
| bitnine08-20-04, 03:48 AM | Originally posted by [GSV] Kirstar bast continual flame on them...... That also has the side benefit of giving you a splitting headache. Wait - were we only considering benefical uses? I imagine you might be able to also rig one with a bit of rope for a very odd way to commit suicide. |
| BlaineTog08-20-04, 04:16 AM | 31: Fuse about a bucnh into a cylinder, hollow it out, and use it to hold your drink. 32: Attach a notepad to one and a pen to another. 33: Put a hook on one and use it to carry your groceries (yes, I'm feeling very lazy right now). |
| flyingmoose08-20-04, 05:15 AM | 34) Make a bunch of cursed ones that insist on orbiting the user's butt. Give them to allies as a gag. "Wow, those things are smart." |
| flyingmoose08-20-04, 05:17 AM | Originally posted by BlaineTog 31: Fuse about a bucnh into a cylinder, hollow it out, and use it to hold your drink. Don't forget the floating straw. |
| Edymnion08-20-04, 12:47 PM | 35) Enchant them with Magic Mouth spells that activate when you point at them. Program the Magic Mouths to say things like "Kiss my butt" "Screw you", etc. Instant insult machine. |
| jaelis08-20-04, 01:07 PM | 36) Cast permanence'd invisibility and ghost sound on one to make a high pitched whine, and then set it whirling around your buddy's head while he's sleeping. |
| Chachi08-20-04, 01:11 PM | 37) Take a very small frog, put it on top of an orbiting stone, and then howl with laughter as it cheerfully tries to hang on. And yes, it will be cheerful. Very small frogs are always cheerful, to the point of implied substance abuse.* *This is probably not as funny as it sounds on paper. |
| Skrimshaw08-20-04, 01:16 PM | (38) Paint them to look like flies and bees (and attach wings) Just make sure to tell yer Toad familiar they are not real !!! (True Story) |
| Aimless Wanderer08-20-04, 02:36 PM | 39. Paint one pale white, with a few dots. set it going around a lycanthrope's head. AHHH!! full moon! change! AHHH!! its gone!! unchange! AHH!! full moon! change! AHH!! its gone!! unchange! ....... |

| MageofMyth08-20-04, 05:10 PM | Originally posted by Aricandor What did it do? (not the psionics version, the 3.0 or whatever it'd be) All it did was orbit. That was part of it's charm it was a magic item that just flew around your head, so people started coming up with fun things to do with it. |
| taltamir08-21-04, 01:10 AM | print a bar code on each one and require each "citizens" of my empire to have one on at all times. Ones without any are thrown in jail, ones with are easily itentifiable. Use them as schoolpasses. Use them as passes for playes, and other payed for things. (get one whenentering the museum, give it back when leaving.) |
| wolfbrother08-21-04, 01:36 AM | 43. put sticky notes on them. 44. use them as 25gp peices (is that how much they cost? The next joke only works if they're 25gp) 45. buy 200 of them (no more no less) and get a +1 insight (yes, insight) bonus to AC. i don't see why any DM wouldn't allow it. |
| taltamir08-21-04, 02:11 AM | i dont get it... why is it funny to get a +1 for 5000GP insight bonus to AC |
