| Thrushfeather05-01-07, 11:39 AM | Oh, the lowly lesser limited, Limited Wish, is there anything you can't do? Answer: Yes; many, many things in fact. Though that doesn't concern us right now. What I want to find out is what can you do with Prestidigitation. So, if you've ever come up with a cleaver use of the mage's utility knife, and you think it is with in the realm of power for Prestidigitation Post, em and let's get to pulling rabbits out of our hats. Let's get started. 1. Light a small fire. 2. Make a card appear at the top of a deck of cards. 3. Tie and "Over-hand" knot in a small rope. 4. Make a candle flame explode like a fire cracker. 5. Clean a sword. 6. Make Lemonade. 7. Make an item glow and appear magical to the untrained eye.(no illumination) 8. Cool a drink. 9. Roll a set of dice (in game) in your favor. 10. ...? Best of Luck -TF |
| Fallenangel35905-01-07, 12:16 PM | 10 color a celestials wings black, while in hell, so I could get along with hellians better. (happened 2 days ago). Kinda made sense as the celestial was a shadowdancer :P |
| Ikyotojin05-01-07, 12:22 PM | 11 - that itch in the middle of my back. No really! It's SO annoying. 12 - put that itch on the nose of some guy on watch... the one wearing the full helm. When he takes it off to scratch it, WHAM! 13 - Distractions while pick pocketing or trying to sneak by. Anyone remember the first Star Wars movie where old Ben sneaks past the Stormtroopers? |
| TacoClone05-01-07, 12:26 PM | 14 - Clean the soot off the chimney walls to reveal an oddly placed incantation to open that door in the front of the dungeon to finally let you out so you don't starve to death... (We were so happy when our sorcerer decided to see what would happen) |
| Yusari05-01-07, 08:55 PM | 15. Soiled the seat of the pants of a haughty noble who was talking down to the party in front of all his bride-to-be (who we'd just rescued), and her father. The marriage didn't go through. 16. Used to remove the bloodstains from my wizard's robes before the paladin saw them and asked where they were from. (As the rogue later said in his defense at the trial; It wasn't so much that he was murdering innocents, as that he didn't take the time to determine what they might have been guilty of. Everyone is guilty of something or other.) 16. Used to flavor the king's dish and make him think it was poisoned, touching off his paranoia and ensuring the execution of everyone at a certain banquet. 17. Used to heat stones (and thereby his sleeping roll) one cold night, to keep himself warm. This led to the female ranger asking to share his sleeping roll. 18. Used to make people believe his cooking was palatable when it was his turn to make dinner for the party (as our DM said; Be glad they've never stated out Mad Cow for D&D). 19. Used to create "an item of sin" (think freud) in the bag of the female cleric when the paladin was looking around for healing potions, touching off a great series of accusations about the cleric's Sinfulness (And giving rise to the Paladin's edict, that only he could touch any naked men we came across, because they would be too much temptation for the poor cleric.) |

| MrSpaceBear05-04-07, 02:01 AM | A lot of people forget that Prest can organize everything with in the radius of the spell not weighing more than a few lbs. So all those coins scattered across the floor just fly right into your hands. Or the caltrops. Or the arrows.... etc. |

Great for intimidation purposes before you start hurling Eldritch Blasts. Fighter: Same as Barbarian. Monk: use the spell to magically fold a t-shirt into a ninja mask in a few quick seconds. Insta-Ninja!!! Ninjas: As a monk, but use it to keep your ninja masks nice and pressed, and free of unsightly blood and gore stains. Sorceror: use it to create small illusions of little flying pixies that your bard can hit with his whip to relieve the anger of sucking so bad. Bard: Use it to repair the strings of your guitar when forced to use it as a bludgeoning weapon in combat. (has happened. Gene Simmons would be proud.) Paladin: Use it to clean the muck from your armor. That way the enemies have an easier time seeing your slow ass, and thus close the gap for you. Cleric: Use it to write "My god can beat up your God" on the back of the Paladin's armor while he sleeps. more coming soon. :) |

Fighting a vampire? Curtained windows? Grab those curtains and tear 'em down--instant sunlight! (Granted, not all vampires are this stupid.) 183. Groom your mount, familiar, or animal companion. 184. Healing potions taste like eye of newt? Flavor 'em! 185. The captured guard's trying to lie; you know he's a terrible liar, but he just won't give up! Make him think you've cast Zone of Truth: make the word LIAR blink over his head whenever he says something you're not satisfied with. 186. Infiltrating an enemy army? Color your insignia to their colors! 187. You're being chased by the city guard? No problem--pull small objects down from windowsills to land on their heads! Flower pots are especially funny... laundry could entangle them... hey, if you're lucky, you may manage to pull down a sunbathing cat! And we all know what Fluffy does to commoners... 188. Speaking of cats, moving a small object around is a great way to distract a wizard's cat familiar. Intelligence doesn't trump instinct when it has to do with moving objects and cats. |

| VanGrue12-15-07, 03:46 PM | Someone hasn't read the full description of prestidigitation. You CAN make noises with it. Can someone point out where exactly it says this? I haven't seen anything remotely related to sound in the spell description. Even the expanded list in the D&D Excerpt of Tome and Blood (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20010707) (which is subject to DM rejection for any 3.5 game since it's 3.0) doesn't mention sound anywhere. There are also a lot of people using examples of using Prestidigitation to mimic a glamer or figment spell to "make something look like something else" which is just not possible. You can't even use Silent image to do this (ie: make someone look like they're missing a limb). In any case, there are a lot of funny and also down-right useful suggestions here! Is there any word on the limits of the "Change" power? For instance, without limit, you could easily change all your Gold, silver, copper coins to Platinum Pieces and instantly increase your effective wealth in regards to any merchants who can't tell if the coins have magic cast on them (which is probably a small number; merchants have got to be wise to mage-tricks.) It also seems like a bit much to assume you could change an enemy's weapon to quicksilver and take them out of the fight like that. Most swords, etc. are gonna weigh more than 1 lb. so I assume it would only work on 1 lb. worth, if it's even possible. Though, it seems like a fun idea to turn an enemy's shirt or pants to be made out of porcupine quills... |
| Kedami12-15-07, 04:00 PM | It doesn't say it in the SRD, but in the PHB (at the top of the middle column on p264) it lists a few "common tricks". It does mention making "ethereal music" so it can be taken to mean that it can make sound, although it probably means moving things into objects that make eerie noises since it uses the word "tinklings". It also mentions that you cannot deal damage with it, so a few ideas are out. |
| VanGrue12-15-07, 04:06 PM | I imagine they probably reduced the "common tricks" available in 3.5 or they might have mentioned the extra uses listed in Tome and Blood in either the PH or one of the more recent 3.5 books (like Complete Arcane/Mage). Heck, maybe they did and I never noticed. Setting things on fire with Flamefinger seems a bit beyond the abilities of the spell mentioned in the 3.5 PH. |
| Iabes_Q_c_a_Mahorella12-16-07, 02:14 PM | I combined Grease with Pres to make a flamethrower... Grease for fuel, in a hollow rock, with 1 pres to create preasure, and another to set it on fire at the nozzle. ... my DM's awsome. |
| Goof12-17-07, 03:07 PM | I do feel quite a few of the listed are pushing the envelope, and some are well over the line. Would have been nice to have people comment on them. But good ideas. Here are a few from me that I have used. 239. During someone else’s watch, make resteling noises in the grass/brush around camp. Move objects about. (works great after an ugly pixy encounter) 240. Change the cleric in your group holy item that identifies what good he follows. 241. Keep your familiar entertained. 242. Have things mysterisly show up in parties rouge possession. 243. Impress the kids with cool effects 244. Make sure the Elf bard shirts never stay buttoned. 245. When captured, create a distraction to send the guards the other way. 246. Use on food to get a job to cook for nobles. (inside jobs are easier) 247. Give yourself a cool unmistakable tattoo that is plainly seen, but when authorities look for this tattooed person, they can’t find him. 248. Keep your cape flapping, hero style. 249. Get all the coins out of the wishing pond. |
