| Logain_Ablar02-05-05, 01:45 AM | Silent Image and its related spells (Major Image, Permanant Image, Ect.) are some of the most versitile spells. What are some inventive ways you know to use them. I'll start with an example. 1.) Use an illusion of a group of charging palidins to lure the Orc tribe (or any other enemy group) into the open. Then lay waste to them with fireballs from a safe cover. Kudos for ways that make you laugh out loud. |
| Valkrist02-05-05, 03:28 AM | A single wizard uses Illusions to convince a group of higher level characters to surrender, by making them think they are surrouned and outnumbered. |
| Iamblind02-05-05, 05:41 AM | 3) An illusion of a hurt adventurer or somesuch to lure that group of goblins in a small area and then sleep, or another disablieing spell. |
| dknight10002-05-05, 05:53 AM | my personal favourite for hilarious ambushes: create an illusion of a squad of warriors attacking someone (monsters or something if you're a PC, or the party if your a dm) but stick a couple of your fighters and such in there... silenced... those that are smart might notice that the entire group is making no noise... and what makes no noise? illusions. and they're mostly right... mostly |
| ehrin02-05-05, 09:12 AM | I agree with Darkknight... illusions alone are okay, but illusions teamed up with real spells are awesome. imagine a group of orcs on a battlefield... cast illusionary fireball at them. Some will duck, some might believe and hurt themselves, most will disbelieve. Do it again. By the second time, most won't even duck or dodge the fireball. Then, at the third time, cast a real fireball... They will think it an illusion, and not even try to save/dodge... no half damage then! You can do the same with prestidigitation and lightning sparks, illusion spells, and lightning bolts for real. Tie your illusions in with someone summoning monsters... They summon, you duplicate, and suddenly, it's a mirror image spell (to a point). |
| HypnoticMonk02-05-05, 10:35 AM | my best illusion spell was one that I Meant for the party to disbelieve  there were more participants in this than I am describing but I am cutting this down to the bare bones of what happened. Wizard casts illusion of 2 giants directly in line between him and party, but makes it so that ( after I roll what they guess is a Spot Check/Intelligence roll/etc) when the giants raise their clubs, that those "clubs" pass through the ceiling ). The two cocky front line fighters laugh at wizard, run towards wizard taking direct path at best possible speed... and fall into a pit trap that they didnt bothering looking for. Pit trap resets itself, lid closes, the two party "tanks" are sliding all the way down a slide to an underground river/sewage pit( about 100' down... and party is in Trouble. |
| Sproik02-05-05, 11:15 AM | An illusion of a sturdy granite bridge over a yawning crevasse. |
| Kyuketsukiouji02-05-05, 11:27 AM | And then a little later on, an illusion of the missing middle of a real, solid stone bridge over a yawning chasm. |
| Hart L02-05-05, 02:30 PM | There's always my favorite. Illusionary loot across said yawning cavern so that your party ignores the real loot and you can take it. |
| Ascian02-05-05, 02:41 PM | I like applications of illusions that don't bother trying to deceive people. Remember, when you've got Silent Image, you've got all the digital effects of Industrial Light and Magic, plus the ability to make three dimensional images that look absolutely real. What does this mean? 10) Passing dull moments in the tavern conjuring up impromptu porno scenes featuring your teammates. Awwww yeeeeah. :ayyyy!: |
| Hart L02-05-05, 11:21 PM | 11) Convincing the angry Dryad that you and your party are a happy willow tree after you accidentaly torch her grove with a fireball spell. 12) Making the guard think that you're dead by making it look like your corpse is lying, bleeding on the floor of your cell and when he comes in you hit him in the the back of the head and run for it. 13) Getting rid of those pesky goblins by making a big angry dragon illusion, and then fireballing them. |
| Bloodtide_the_Red02-06-05, 12:26 AM | 14)Making an illusion of that much wanted object. Whatever everyone is running for, the Crystal Penguin, the Crown Scepter, ect. Then you can toss it off a cliff or any other place you need it to go. 15)A Fake Trap-You enter the room and find the Wizard has trapped the evil WereWolf inside a sliver cage. Of course, the cage is just an illusion and the Wizard and Werewolf are working together. This can work good for the 'fake tratior' plot, as long as they act along. 16)Making illusions to slow folks down. Doors can work good, as they will stop to open them. The same with a wooden chest. 17)Illusion on the wrong item. Door 1 is the way out, door 2 is the trap.....so door 2 is covered by the illusion. The folks come in, 'detect' the illusion and think 'this must be the right door as it's the one with the illusion on it'. BT |
| Findail02-06-05, 12:36 PM | An illusinary wall a few feet in front of the real one (and identical to it) creates a handy refuge or ambush location. Obviously this works best in a large room, where even the local dungeon denizens probably won't notice that it's now slightly smaller. |
| Darastin02-06-05, 12:57 PM | 19) Make that cliff seem just a yard longer than it really is... 20) This works best when being chased: Flee through an open door, cover the open door with an illusion of a solid wall that extends to the solid wall text to it - and make an open door, with the image of the room you're in, on the solid wall. Wait for the "boing". Just my two €-cents; Darastin |
| Ascian02-06-05, 01:25 PM | 21) When it comes time for the wealthy benefactor to pay each party member their 2,000gp, Major Image is the best way for you to make sure that Mert and Aloysius each get a share as well. |
