I've heard a few people mention this rule but can't find it in the PHB - my DM will only allow it if I can show him what page the rule is on. |
| Eagle Prince02-02-04, 07:10 PM | Clerics have to choose a certain time of day which they pray for spells. An arcane spellcaster needs to actually rest before he regains his arcane power (spell slots) to memorize/cast new spells. A cleric doesn't "regain" any power, he simply prays to his god for the spells. So a cleric could actually regain his spells even if he didn't have time to rest, as long as he took the time to pray for new ones. However, he could only pray for his spells at the appointed time, so I don't think he has any way to drop one spell and pray for a new one without actually just waiting until the next day. |

This is usually dawn, noon, dusk or midnight. Receiving spells at any time other than this is a house rule, and a poor one at that! For emergency situations, it is always good to have a few scrolls in tow. |

Don't know what the DC is as I don't play a cleric under him. The other makes you actually PRAY to your cleric's deity to attempt to get the spell you need. This may or may not get that spell, depends on the prayer and how you present yourself to your god..... I'm not too keen on this as I had to do that one time and blew it as I don't think of stuff like that on the fly...... All in all, it's not supposed to be easy or everyone would do it. |
