Do you need both hands free to use a scroll? One to hold it and one hand to produce the somatic component if needed?

nothing in the srd (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/scrolls.htm) states about having to use two hands... Now I would suggest to ask your DM about how s/he rules on the case...

After all I would rule that you have to have both hands free (but dont have to unequip a shield) to unroll the scroll and be able to cast, but your DM might rule that it would be silly to have a person disarm and unshield (in case that you have one) just to read a pice of papper...

Today's paper "curls" much more irritatingly than older paper (although it is also much more durable). One hand is sufficient by the rules. Two hands is probably the result of a restrictive DM. Nothing wrong with that, but not for me.

Maybe I should be more clear. Do scrolls require somatic components, if the spell does? If so, do I not need a hand free to produce these components? And since one hand has a scroll in it, must I have both hands free to read a scroll?

well, for one, I believe you could check the Craft Scroll ability. It may say that somatic components and matirials are consumed and cast when the scroll is made, as the scroll is set to a perticular caster level. Could be wrong but I believe the scroll is "cast" requireing only the verbal component or final words of the spell to be used.
