| Bonzai02-24-05, 10:56 AM | Hola, Ok, two quick questions that came up recently, and hopefully you can help me out. 1st, Can you craft items with borrowed spells? For example, my Pale Master recently captured the local cell leader for the Cult of the Dragon. He had a dragon ring and a copy of the tome of the dragon. He wants to put the guy into a husk globe (from LM), and thereby have access to the cults secrets, and eventually being able to translate the tome. He has the craft wonderous item feat, but it requires the speak with the dead spell. I know that you can cast spells through a ring of spell storing that you might not normally be able to. Would this work for creating the item? Or would having a cleric that could cast the spell there during creation work (he has a mummy cleric cohort)? 2nd, Can a magic quarterstaff with existing enhancements be used to create a Staff? For example, the same Pale Master carries around a +2 quarterstaff with skillfull and dispelling enhancements. He may get the Channel Charge feat from LEoF, and actaully consider using a staff. Could he use his quarterstaff and then put the spell charges on it like a normal staff? I've seen some staffs that seemed like they had magic weapons as a base, but I wasn't sure. |

The idea is that every day the spell must be tranferred into the item (note: it never really is cast), but it doesn't matter who's the caster. However, all participating parties must be present for the entire time the item is being created. 2. I'd allow it, since it doesn't seem too gamebreaking. |

| Bonzai02-24-05, 06:22 PM | Thanks for your replies! How much of a price adjustment do you think is called for? This is the first time I've attempted something like this, so I'm unsure what kind of adjustment I'd get for combining two technically seperate magic items (weapon/staff). I guess this will come in handy if I ever want to combine a mace/rod. lol. |
| Seeker9502-24-05, 07:47 PM | The new abilities are added at 150% normal cost. (A 50% price increase) It would still be a weapon that you are using as a staff. Something completely different to consider (and still end up with the same item) A quarter staff is a double weapon. Enhance one end with all the weapon properties. Enhance the other end as a staff. And make sure your DM allows "recharging" by some means. |
