I've been looking around and this idea of a 20 lv. magic system, where spells are gained in a more in depth progression, where there are more types of spells and you get them spaced out over 20 lv has me interested, and I was wondering if anyone knew where one was or had any ideas for such a thing. I know there are some out there, I've seen some before, but I can't find any. So if anyone could help, thanks. :D

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but you may want to check out Unearthed Arcana for alternate spellcasting ideas.

I think the idea is that instead of gaining a new level of spells every other level, you gain a new level of spells every level, but with a diminished increase in power.

IMO, one reason for the current magic system is so that the significant power increase between spell levels can discourage over-"dipping" into casting classes.

Good point.

So, for instance, instead of keen edge being a wizard/sorcerer 3 spell, it might be a wizard/sorcerer 5 or 6 spell? Seems reasonable enough -- there are a few issues I see though:

-If you're using slot-based magic, then having 20 levels worth of spell slots might be rather confusing and unwieldy. With psionics or spell-point based systems, this would not be a problem, however.

-Save DCs will climb much more quickly than they currently do. This could be resolved, perhaps, by either changing the save DC formula, or abolishing the idea of a uniform save DC altogether, and simply saying that, for instance, Slay Living has a save DC of 15 + casting ability modifier. This would also allow spells to have unusual save DCs without using awkward syntax like "okay, the save DC for this level 5 spell is 15 + casting ability modifier, but the target takes a -4 penalty on the save attempt" rather than more straightforwardly simply dictating that hte save DC be 19 + CAM. However, this could lead to a need for more referencing and generally be a pain.
