Hi there,

Just a doubt i have for a long time now, the spell FIRE STORM LVL 7 priest spell mentions and i quote "The damage is inflicted each round the creature stays in the area of effect"

My question is, if the spellīs duration is only 1 round, how many rounds does the spell inflicts damage to creatures inside the area of effect?

If someone can help me with this will be deeply appreciated.

Thanks!

Graytor.

If it is inflicted each round the creature is within the area of effect, but the area of effect lasts for 1 round it only takes damage for one round.

I'm not familar with 2ed, but maybe that version assumes the firestorm will set fire to anything else flameable in the area causing fire damage, or the writers were covering their backs in case of a spell extender effect (I.e. some 2ed version of metamagic)

Yeah , maybe it is the case of the flamable objects catching fire, but if it only lasts one round, it is not a powerful enough spell to be a 7th level spell. Even a fireball could be more powerful casted by a high level mage.I really think there is a typo mistake there.
Regarding the metamagic, in 2nd ed that didnt even exist when the first print out of 2nd ed was released, so again i think is a typo error. In 3rd ed the spell is much more powerful.

Anyway thanlks a lot for your comments. I know 2nd ed is old though and this errors could have been corrected on 3rd.. what do you think?

Well in 2nd Ed, Clerics had SEVERELY limited Blasting power.

As opposed to now where they almost equal Wizards.

Yes thats true, but even then that spell could not be at the same level as an earthquake, Tsunami ,creeping doom etc spells. The fact that the writers put that the spell does damage for every round the victims are in the area of effect suggests that the spell was meant to be stronger than it is...

My guess is that they probably left off "/level" from the duration line.
