2nd ed. items with 3.5 upgrade? [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-25-05, 04:41 AM i'm fairly new to 3.5 (DMG, PHB,MM only so far), but have tons of 2nd ed. stuff. i was wondering if any of the magic items from the complete handbook line (such as the bracelet of charms - fighter's handbook, amulet of dramatic death - theives handbook, or warpaint - barbarians handbook) has been updated to 3.5 and if so what books are they in. any help would be appreciated.

01-25-05, 05:06 AM Well some things convert easily and some of the other items are in the other 3.5 Sourcebooks. Some items are considered minor artifacts now and the base abilities for many items have changed and no longer as "powerful" as they once were.

So the list of conversion items can be difficult. FYI 2E characters do not convert in to 3E very well if they dual or multi classed.

01-25-05, 07:46 AM As far as I know, there is no book that converts magic items from 2nd to 3.5.

In our group (we converted our campaign from 2nd to 3.0 and then 3.5...) we just sat all together to adress the problem of magical items. It was a bit messy but we managed to do it.

You have two solutions :
every item that doesn't convert automatically can be more or less created in 3.5. When created, you can determine its price which can also help you estimate the item's power. The PC can then keep the item if it sounds reasonable or he can sell it in order to have at least a cash indemnity.

01-27-05, 05:40 PM i created a homebrew update of WARPAINT elsewhere in this thread.
as far as "official" updated items, i haven't seen any in the few 3.0/3.5 books that i have.

btw jktrondarr, i checked out your warpaint update and it looked pretty cool. i really don't think it was nessessary to expand into that many colors, but it was a nice effort anyways. i was hoping that since WOTC seems to be updating all the old accessory books that a new tome of magic was in the works. looks like i'll hafta try updating some of them myself.
