| JiCi01-12-07, 09:39 PM | Greetings, here are 3 spells using a gold and treasure theme: Coin Stream Conjuration Level: Sor/Wiz 4 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 30 feet Effect: Cone Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Reflex Half Spell Resistance: No From your open palm, thousands of gold coins fly and batter targets. You shoot gold coins at high speed in a cone-shaped blast. The blast deals 1d8 points of bludgeoning damage (10d8 maximum). Furthermore, any creature that fails its save is dazzled for 2d4 rounds. A successful Reflex save halves the damage and negate the dazzle condition. Material Component: A leather pouch filled with gold coins. Weapon of Treasure Transmutation Level: Sor/Wiz 5 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: One weapon Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: Will negates (object) Spell Resistance: Yes (object) With a touch, you transform a iron weapon into a gold plated object. You transform a weapon into a golden version of it. For the spell duration, the new weapon deals damage as one size category larger. However, the weapon is twice as heavy as its normal counterpart, and unwieldy. This imposes a -4 penalty to attacks rolls using that weapon. Material Component: 5 gold coins. Coin Shield Abjuration Level: Sor/Wiz 3 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: One willing creature Target: One coin-shaped shield Duration: 1 minute/level Saving Throw: Will negates (Harmless) Spell Resistance: No A floating coin-shaped plate appears in front of you, blocking attacks. You summon a coin-shaped shield to protect you or a willing creature against attacks. The coin is shaped like a light shield, granting a +1 shield bonus to AC. Since it magically floats, the creature does not suffer from armor check penalty or arcane spell failure. At 10th level, the coin grows in size up to a heavy shield, granting a +2 shield bonus. At 15th level, the coin can be shaped into a tower shield. Material Component: 10 gold coins. So what do you think ? Feel free to post your comments. |

Material Component: A leather pouch filled with gold coins. This spell seems pretty solid assuming it's not subject to damage reduction. I would clarify the material component though - in fact I would make it a focus instead. Weapon of Treasure Transmutation Level: Sor/Wiz 5 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: One weapon Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: Will negates (object) Spell Resistance: Yes (object) With a touch, you transform a iron weapon into a gold plated object. I don't get this at all - how is this supposed to be used? As a buff it's a 5th level spell lasting 1 round per level that is worse than the effect of Enlarge Person. As a negative effect you put on an enemy's weapon it is touch range and only -4 (while increasing damage). I'd like to know it's intended use so I can suggest some changes. Coin Shield Abjuration Level: Sor/Wiz 3 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: One willing creature Target: One coin-shaped shield Duration: 1 minute/level Saving Throw: Will negates (Harmless) Spell Resistance: No A floating coin-shaped plate appears in front of you, blocking attacks. Compared to the Shield spell this is 3rd level and not 1st, same duration, this gives less AC and doesn't have the added benefit of stopping Magic Missile. It appears that the intent of the spell is to be usable on an ally (while Shield is personal only) but the Range entry doesn't specify a maximum distance. Was this intentional? If so you'll need to clarify how you specify who you target, since you may not have line of sight. Besides this the wording under Range and Target is unclear to me. Don't see this as negative feedback, I really do like the spell's conepts. I just don't see how the second two work mechanically - they are a little weak in my opinion. |
