If a Wizard has a Rod of Quicken, and Shapechanges into a Choker, can she cast 3 spells a round? A Choker gets an extra standard action, and Quicken lets a normal caster cast a 2nd spell in a round as long as it's casting time is a standard action or less. Am I missing something in the rules that would prevent this?
The reason I ask is that I am preparing for a "Battle Royal" and am looking for some interesting "stragedies".:D

Thank You.

Yes. A choker with a rod of quicken could get off three spells a round. Have the right contingency set, and you could even get off four in one round for the round the contingency occurs.

Just remember that the Contingency spell has to target you, not your opponent.

Swiftblades can do it without shapechange. :)

I've seen mention before on these forums of spell casters turning into Chokers for this ability, but the only "Choker" i know is Small Aberration in the MM. What is this other Choker?

That is the Choker in question. It has an ability called "Quickness" that allows it to take an extra standard or move action each round, and Shapechange gives you that ability.

I was afraid you were going to say that, because it means i'm going insane! i'm looking straight at the entry (pg.s 34-35, yes?). All i see are improved grab and constrict. The only thing that sounds remotely similar to "quickness" is its lightning reflexes feat.

look harder? i guess i sort of had trouble seeing it the first time i looked at it too... (i do recall looking through the mm one day and upon seeing the choker entry, going 'wow how could i miss that, that's cool').

maybe you have a misprinted book, or it's not 3.5? anyway, it's on the srd: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/choker.htm

yep, i can guarantee that's not in my MM (which is 3.5). At least i don't have to worry about my players using this cheese :D

for some reason the choker's quickness power was left out of the late printing MMs, specifically the leather-bound special edition version. This was not an errata and choker's are still meant to have this power. The SRD and earlier MM versions are correct.

Yours it must have been a misprint. My monster manual(3.5)has the quickness abilyty and also i have seen it in my friends' monster manual.
So unless you want to houserule which is perfectly fine by the way this trick is allowed.

You don't gain SU abilities in a polymorph, you would not be able to pull this off.

Edit: Nevermind, Shapchange....:)

Assume supernatural ability from savage species would do the trick for alter self or polymorph.:)

Arcane Fusion (is that the one? ... crap, I think. A spell that, when cast, lets you cast two spells, one of lower, one of much lower, level) ... and Celerity!

Why just stop at 4? :)
