There was an old AD&D 2Ed spell called something like fools gold, turned base metal items or such to look like Gold coins, does it exist in 3.0-3.5?

Tried a search but forund nothing on it...

Nope. This spell is no more. I wonder if you could do that with any "... Image" spells though. (too lazy to dig through thier descriptions etc. :) )

I looked at the image spells, and i don't think they would cut it. They could make a great pile of coins that would all lool like what ever, but to make an indivual coin or a bunch of lead coins look like it they where gold would require to many spells... darn there goes my plan for the piles of fake gold in the Dragons hoard...

There is no low level glamer type illusion inthe PH that can change the appearance of an object that I can see. Disguise self can do it..kind of, but not realy.
Even a quick look through my other d20 books does not show one.....

A similar spell was posted on the WotC Webpage in a special thing on gold spells.

Gold Spells (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20030825a)

The Fool's gold spell is okay, but not so good that its useful. Gold Finger on the otherhand is so good its broken. The easiest trick is the old money changer trick. Change your gp into copper pieces, magically change your cu in to gold, then trade your gold for more copper. Repeat. Problem is, you can't repeat much because the spell isn't permanent.

A better plan is to note that the Target of the spell has a weight limit. By transforming Balsa wood you get a TON of gold. Its beautiful.

Well i dont think any DM would allow it without a damn high bluff, but couldnt Prestigignination allow you to color a coin gold, and then you trade it off like that? i mean it isnt much, but one-nine coins a day for actual silver, thats not bad.

Thanks Primus (and everybody else who gave suggestions)...
while they aren't what i am really looking for, those will work close enough as to be effective...

Basically I'm the DM and the players have picked a fight with a a dragon. The orignal situation was there was an illusionary hoard that they saw at the bottom of a large cavern underground and they decided to attack the dragon to get it, the dragon has got a VERY nice set up where it is attempting to lure adventurers to steal it's "treasure", and get themselves killed in tee procecess, a Shadow dragon with all sorts of illsuion spells up. The whole pile of treasure being just junk, lead coins etc(was what i wanted, but but all i could find at the time was the image spells so that is what they orignally saw, was the image of the coins... now as they head in i need somethign there.
I think' ill go with one of those spells and for-go the pile of coins for a few very nice items. as laying out in the open as the bait (with some real coins for not show) I posted it here becasue players always seem up on the newest spells, and it is the spells magic item section.
so thanks all.
