| Harmor08-11-04, 07:59 PM | If you were using +1 Shirikens of Returning, would they be destroyed on use since they are ammunition? |
| cwslyclgh08-11-04, 08:07 PM | if it hit is target, then technically yes, since they are treated as amuntion specifically as to regards to what happens to them after they are thrown (PHB page 121) |
| Harmor08-11-04, 08:09 PM | What if they were made out of Adamantine |
| cwslyclgh08-11-04, 08:14 PM | again 'technically' it doesn't matter. Amunition that hits the target is destroyed no matter what it is made of. however it might not be a bad house rule to rule that magical shuriken are not destroyed when they hit the target. |
| Deep Blue 900008-11-04, 08:46 PM | You could try getting them made as thrown weapons (non-ammunition), paying the full normal weapon costs. They should be OK then. |
| Harmor08-11-04, 09:03 PM | Ah...I see... +1 Shuriken of Throwing and Returning made out of adamintine: -- Cost: 18,000gp (+3 bonus) + 3,000gp = 21,000gp for 1 shuriken vs. +1 Shuriken made out of adamintine: -- Cost: 2,000gp (+1 bonus) + 3,000gp (60gp x 50) = 5,000gp for a batch of 50. Although the DMG doesn't specifically say I'm assuming that shurikens come in batches of 50 just like sling bullets. |
| DM Zoc08-11-04, 09:08 PM | Shruiken are enchanted in batches of 50, but are generally sold in (I think) tens. I would suggest an enchantment that allows ammunition to not be destroyed when it hits by increasing the entire cost of the weapon by 4900% Also keep in mind that it doesn't work so well for returning weapons because they all come back to the space you were in at the beginning of your next turn; you have (at most) two empty hands to pick them up, so the rest will just fall to the ground (I'm assuming that you're going to flurry or otherwise throw more than two in a turn). |
| Harmor08-11-04, 09:18 PM | Maybe I should make an item similar to a Glove of Storing that produces normal shurikens? Of say 50 per day? |
| Heron_Marked_Blade08-11-04, 09:22 PM | Do a search. I seem to remember someone creating a glove that produced throwing knives made from force. It was based off of the Quiver of Anariel (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/fr/lonedrowstats) (bottom of page). Except the search function is disabled for the next 24 hours. I'll check tomorrow. |
| incubus08-11-04, 09:57 PM | You cannot make returning ammunition. From the SRD: Although they are thrown weapons, shuriken are treated as ammunition for the purposes of drawing them, crafting masterwork or otherwise special versions of them and what happens to them after they are thrown. So, for the purpose of making magical shuriken, they're ammunition, not thrown weapons. |
