| Harmor07-02-04, 08:12 AM | Since you can't wear both magical gloves and gauntlets could you craft a set of magical gauntlets using magical gloves? I have a set of Gloves of Dexterity and and want to add to them Gauntlets of Ogre Power. What are the cost savings if any? |
| BlackSmith07-02-04, 08:22 AM | staright rip from SRD ADDING NEW ABILITIES A creator can add new magical abilities to a magic item with no restrictions. The cost to do this is the same as if the item was not magical. Thus, a +1 longsword can be made into a +2 vorpal longsword, with the cost to create it being equal to that of a +2 vorpal sword minus the cost of a +1 sword. If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a character’s body the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5. so 4k + 6k =10k for gloves that give +2 enhac to dex and str. |
| Harmor07-02-04, 09:01 AM | I know that...but that would make a set of Gloves of Dexterity and Strength not a set of Gauntlets of Dexterity and Ogre Power. Do you see what I'm asking? |
| BlackSmith07-02-04, 09:06 AM | there is no difference witch way you do it. gauntlets or gloves, price is the same. |
| Seeker9507-02-04, 01:15 PM | One power is affinity. One power is not affinity. Blacksmith is right. Same price either way, and you are either wearing gloves of dexterity and strength or gauntlets of stregnth and dexterity. Pay extra for the second power, including the non-affinity penalty. |
| Harmor07-02-04, 01:33 PM | No no no...what I mean is this. I currently OWN a pair of Gloves of Dexterity. I want to buy a set of Spiked Gauntlets and use the Gloves of Dexterity as the inner lining in the gauntlets and then imbue the newly merged item with a Strength bonus to make a new item: Spiked Gauntlets of Dexterity and Ogre Power I know the price is the same and all that...what I'm talking about is using the Gloves of Dexterity as a material component rather than having to buy a set of Spike Gauntlets and imbueing both abilites. Do you see what I'm asking? |
| Beamup07-02-04, 01:40 PM | To that, I would have to say NO. You can't combine magical items like that. |
| Seeker9507-02-04, 01:44 PM | You cannot turn a pair of gloves into a pair of gauntlets. I stand in agreement with Beamup and BlackSmith. (And history will tell you that the three of us are rarely all in agreement on much of anything!) |
| Dunbar07-02-04, 03:49 PM | While technically it isn't possible, I would see no reason as a DM not to allow it. You need linings for metal gauntlets in any case, and I'd let the gloves serve that purpose. You'd have to have the gauntlets (well, the metal parts of them) crafted onto the gloves. So whoever was making these for you would have to have the gloves while he was working, and I'd require the craftsmanship to be masterwork quality. Oh, and if the crafter fails his check by 5 or more, the materials are destroyed, and I'd include the gloves in that. So make sure the smith knows what he's doing. Afterwords, it would simply be one item (masterwork spiked gauntlets of dexterity), and if you tried to separate the gloves from the gauntlets, the magic would be destroyed. Then, this single item could be further enchanted to also grant a +2 strength bonus for 6,000gps. So it's really up to the DM I guess. I imagine it isn't legal to do by the RAW, but I don't see how it's unbalancing or anything. |

| BlackSmith07-02-04, 07:22 PM | and why specialy a gauntlets? why not update those gloves and wear a mundane gauntlet on them? result is the same except if your gauntlets gets broken (top layer) the gloves are intact (lower layer). |
| Edward07-02-04, 09:10 PM | I would alow it to work for one very good reason. As BlackSmith pointed out. It is the less power gamed way to do get the effect. The person that modified the gloves would need to have the craft wonderus item feat to avoid damaging the magic on the gloves (the person doing the further enchantment will probably be able to do the job). | paradoxmage07-03-04, 12:35 AM | The only way I could see that it would really matter that the gauntlets were gautlets of ogre power is if you weilded a hammer of thunderbolts. Other than this You may as well just buy gauntlets and enchant them with what you want or add the str bonus to the gloves. There is no way to take 2 items that are already enchanted and take up same body slot and combine them to make 1 item(and both of them provideing enhancement). :( You could enchant gloves to be both dex/str bonus and just wear the gauntlets over them(gauntlets being non magical) just to use them as a weapon. |
| bitnine07-03-04, 02:18 AM | I miss 3.0 polymorph any object... If memory serves me, its 3.5 that added the restriction that it couldn't be used to change around your magical armor and weapons. Bah! |
| BlackSmith07-03-04, 07:24 AM | but limited wish would do the trick to change that glove to a gauntlet. |
