Its very clear that Divine spellcasters get their spells at dawn, buts its not clear exactly when Arcane spellcasters get theres.

3.5 PHB 177-179

My understanding is that if an arcane spellcaster rests for 8 hours (sleep 8 hours if non-elf, 4 hours deep meditation/4 hours rest if you're an elf, or 2 hours sleep w/6 hours rest with a ring of sustinance), you may replenish your memorized spells.

Even though you may rememorize the spells, there are only so many spells you can cast per DAY - And thus the confusion.

So can an arcane caster cast all their spells at 12:00am, rest for 8 hours and get all their spells back at 8:00am...then after memorizing for an hour at 9:00am use all their spells, then rest for 8 hours so at 5:00pm they memorizing spells for an hour and cast ALL their spells again at 6:00pm!!!!

I'm confused.

Spells per day is spells per day for all casters. Divine and arcane. So if your Wizard casts all of his spells just after midnight, he can't get new spells until next day and he also must have rested for 8 hours.

I'll agree that it's poorly defined, but I believe that "spells per day" means "spells to cast between periods of rest."

As soon as a wizard wakes up and prepares spells, he can cast all of his spells again, even if he blew them all in 5 minutes right before going to bed. Note however, that you cannot prepare a spell to replace one which was cast within the past 8 hours. If you are interrupted in the middle of the night and cast a spell, say Magic Missile, then after you wake up you cannot prepare a spell in that 1st-level spell slot.

Note also that Divine casters don't always get their spells at dawn. Rather, they must pray at the same time each day and get their spells then; most evil clerics get their spells at dusk or midnight, while you might have a cleric who prays everyday at noon.

The only time a wizard can prepare spells is right after waking up, even if he wakes up at 4 in the afternoon.

Ask your DM. Get his or her ruling.

Whatever we tell you is conjecture, meaning it works in our campaigns. If your DM does it differently, you will have to do it that way.
