| Harmor03-05-04, 12:07 PM | Glove of Wand Storage and Retrieval: This device is a simple leather glove. On command, a wand held in the hand wearing the glove disappears and is stored in the glove if there are less than five wands currently stored in the glove. The item must be a wand. While stored, the wands have negligible weight. The glove also allows the wearer to know which wands are stored and their charges. With a snap of the fingers one of the five wands stored in the glove reappears, wear's mental choice. If a wand already is held then the wand is exchanged for the a wand already stored and mentally selected by the wearer. A glove can only store upto five wands at a time. Storing or retrieving a wand is a free action. The wand is held in stasis and shrunk down so small within the palm of the glove that it cannot be seen. If an effect is suppressed or dispelled, the stored wand(s) appear instantly. Faint transmutation and divination; CL 6th; Craft Wondrous Item, shrink item, detect thoughts; Price 40,000 gp (one glove). I'm not sure the exact cost. If someone could help me out that would be great. |
| Heron_Marked_Blade03-05-04, 12:15 PM | Certainly a useful item. You might consider pricing it like the glove of storing, with each additional item an additional application of the storing effect. So something like: storing #1: 10,000gp storing #2: 10,000gp x 1.5 (15,000) storing #3: 10,000gp x 1.5 (15,000) storing #4: 10,000gp x 1.5 (15,000) storing #5: 10,000gp x 1.5 (15,000) ad hoc limitation: wands only, -20% (-14,000gp) Total price: 56,000gp. That sounds pretty reasonable to me. It'd be an essential item for any battle wizard. |
| Harmor03-05-04, 12:22 PM | Yeah I think your calculation is correct. I know I could have Quick Draw, but that wouldn't put the wand already in my hand away. Also, since sometimes I'm in melee I need to exchange wands quickly without provoking an AoO. By using this glove I wouldn't provoke an AoO and as a free action exchange a wand already in my hand. Or, as a free action put a wand back into the hand so it won't get sundered!!! Besides the cost, increased to 56k, do you guys see any other problems? Improvements? |
| Seeker9503-05-04, 12:50 PM | If you took it out as a free action, I would not allow you to put it back as a free action in the same round. AoO or Sunder: Pick your risk. (Of course, both of these consequences require that you be in melee range, while wands are generally used as a ranged item.) |
| Krelios03-05-04, 12:52 PM | Or, as a free action put a wand back into the hand so it won't get sundered!!! You can only do one free action in a turn (only non-actions can be done more than once) and you can't do it one someone else's turn, so this still won't prevent your wand from being sundered. |
| Vorpal Warhammer03-05-04, 12:52 PM | A couple years ago, in the issue of Dragon dedicated to gnomes, there was a pair of magic items called Wand Bracers. They were a pair of magical bracers with 5 slots each into which you could insert a wand. Once inserted, the wand would lose 1 charge, but you could then use any wand in the bracers as if they were in your hand. I think they cost around 60,000. I don't have the issue in front of me. You might want to look into it. |

I don't think that's right. The number of free actions aren't limited by the rules, but by the DM, who determines what is "reasonable." The difference between a Free Action and Not an Action : Free Action: Free actions consume a very small amount of time and effort. You can perform one or more free actions while taking another action normally. However, there are reasonable limits on what you can really do for free. Not an Action: Some activities are so minor that they are not even considered free actions. They literally don’t take any time at all to do and are considered an inherent part of doing something else. Are you think about quickened spells, maybe? Those are limited to one/round. |
