Heal, Mass is even better affecting multiple targets and healing up to 250 points of damage instead of 150. My question is this, why is there no Harm, Greater at 9th level? Harm is a shadowy remanent of what it used to be, the no-save end-all, be-all your at 1d4 hp spell. Harm is easily halved by a will save AND negated entirely by a Death Ward spell. I admit that perhaps a Harm, Mass is not a good idea and also is unbalanced. But what about a higher damage harm? Harm, Greater Necromancy Level: Clr 9, Destruction 9* Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Will half; see text Spell Resistance: Yes Greater Harm charges a subject with negative energy that deals 10 points of damage per caster level (to a maximum of 250 points at 25th level). If the creature successfully saves, harm deals half this amount, but it cannot reduce the target’s hit points to less than 1. Also, this spell has a chance to overcome negative energy protection spells due to it's powerful nature. When attempting to penetrate a Death Ward or similar spell make a caster level check (d20+Caster level) versus DC 11+Caster Level of protection spell. A successful check does not negate the effect, nor does it allow subsequent Greater Harms to penetrate in the future. If used on an undead creature, greater harm acts like heal in all regards, except it is capable of curing up to 250 points of damage. *Use in place of the Implosion spell depending on your DM ruling. |
