| Harmor10-17-04, 08:49 AM | I'm a rogue/wizard and I really hate undead. I want to be able to sneak attack undead. So I was thinking if I could create a spell that gives Undead vital organ or basically FLESH, could I then sneak attack them? Could you cast Stone to Flesh on a Stone golem to allow to you sneak attack it? |
| kSquared10-17-04, 08:53 AM | You can do whatever you want if your DM allows it. But you can't sneak attack a stone golem with stone to flesh. Read the description of stone golems: A stone to flesh spell does not actually change the golem’s structure but negates its damage reduction and immunity to magic for 1 full round. |
| Lord_Anthrax10-17-04, 09:10 AM | Well, there's a PrC in the Miniatures Handbook, Skullclan Hunter, that lets you Sneak Attack the undead. And there's a new weapon property in Libris Mortis that's a more powerful Ghost Touch, and lets you critically hit and sneak attack incorporeal undead. |
| Dartanel10-17-04, 12:51 PM | There's a spell in Libris Mortis that temporarily removes all of an undead's immunities, including immunity to sneak attacks. |

| Ishlyn10-17-04, 10:37 PM | DMG there is a Mace of Smiting that allows the user to perform a critical hit on Constructs and Elementals, when fighting those opponents I would change it to a Quarterstaff of Smiting or something for your wizard/rogue. Since your allowed to crit that means your allowed to sneak attack, as per pg. 26 of the DMG a critical is striking at a weak spot of the creature and when you sneak your doing the same thing. Hope this helps. |
| kSquared10-17-04, 10:43 PM | Since your allowed to crit that means your allowed to sneak attackHuh? Just because you can critical on someone does not under any circumstances mean you can sneak attack them. Picture an open plain, flat for miles around. You are currently in solo combat with a dire bear, which is susceptible to critical hits. Since you can make a critical on it, do you get a sneak attack on it? Clearly not. |
| Yak of Darkness10-17-04, 11:14 PM | I think what Ishlyn meant was that anything that can be critically hit can also be sneak attacked, not that the former was always a harbinger of the latter. |

Hope this helps. Uh? I do not have the DMG with me, but according to the SRD, the Mace of Smiting affects only Constructs, not Elementals, and certainly not Undead. Even with the case of Costructs, it is not that the mere existence of such a mace means that they become susceptible to sneak attacks. Simply put, the mace has a special power that allows it to add a certain effect under certain conditions: it destroys Constructs if you roll a critical hit. If the roll is not a critical hit, nothing special happens. Do not confuse the dice roll with the effects. A natural 20 is always a hit, regardless of creature immunities. You can confirm criticals even on construct, but normally, they are not affected. With this mace however, "a good hit" destroys them. If "sneak attacks" and criticals were the same thing, the Mace of Smiting would destroy any construct on any sneak attack, and it is certainly not the case. |
