| Harmor06-29-04, 06:48 AM | I'm not very savy when it comes to spells and stuff. I pretty much have only played fighters/rogues all this time. We're getting to the point where we keep getting scryed on and its starting to really be annoying. Can't go anywhere without the BBEG wizard knowing. Then he keeps sending his minions after us!!! I swear I never get any sleep with my character. Everytime we travel anywhere its like we have to add time/supplies to the schedule to deal with them. I was looking at the spell Nondection but that doesn't stop scry attempts because the guy still gets a roll to defeat it. Any other ideas? For reference: http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/theraven_stephenh/spells/Nondetection.html Nondetection Abjuration Level: Rgr 4, Sor/Wiz 3, Trickery 3 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature or object touched Duration: 1 hour/level Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless, object) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless, object) The warded creature or object becomes difficult to detect by divination spells such as clairaudience/clairvoyance, locate object, and detect spells. Nondetection also prevents location by such magic items as crystal balls. If a divination is attempted against the warded creature or item, the caster of the divination must succeed on a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) against a DC of 11 + the caster level of the spellcaster who cast nondetection. If you cast nondetection on yourself or on an item currently in your possession, the DC is 15 + your caster level. If cast on a creature, nondetection wards the creature’s gear as well as the creature itself. Material Component: A pinch of diamond dust worth 50 gp. | Kirin Corrigan06-29-04, 07:00 AM | False Vision is the spell for you. False Vision Illusion (Glamer) Level: Brd 5, Sor/Wiz 5, Trickery 5 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Area: 40-ft.-radius emanation Duration: 1 hour/level (D) Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No Any divination (scrying) spell used to view anything within the area of this spell instead receives a false image (as the major image spell), as defined by you at the time of casting. As long as the duration lasts, you can concentrate to change the image as desired. While you aren’t concentrating, the image remains static. Arcane Material Component: The ground dust of a piece of jade worth at least 250 gp, which is sprinkled into the air when the spell is cast. |
| Thelon Fairblade06-29-04, 07:35 AM | Well, there's also the Will Save against the Scrying spell. As well as the Psionic power Remote View Trap: the Scrying mage must make a will save or take 8d6 electrical damage. If he makes the save, he takes half damage but can still scry you; if he fails, he can't scry you! And Remote View Trap lasts 24 hours + 1 hour/lvl... |
| dantedarkstar06-29-04, 07:41 AM | Mind Blank 100% immunity to scrying, lasts full day You are even invisible on area scrying that doesn't target you. (scrying targeted at you fails, as if you didn't exist at all). No save, no check, no way to get around this (according to WotC FAQ or someting, it even stops Discern Location). |
| Harmor06-29-04, 08:02 AM | http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/theraven_stephenh/spells/Mind_Blank.html Mind Blank Abjuration Level: Protection 8, Sor/Wiz 8 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target: One creature Duration: 24 hours Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) The subject is protected from all devices and spells that detect, influence, or read emotions or thoughts. This spell protects against all mind-affecting spells and effects as well as information gathering by divination spells or effects. Mind blank even foils limited wish, miracle, and wish spells when they are used in such a way as to affect the subject’s mind or to gain information about it. In the case of scrying that scans an area the creature is in, such as arcane eye, the spell works but the creature simply isn’t detected. Scrying attempts that are targeted specifically at the subject do not work at all. 8th level...gee wiz. I guess a Helm of Mind Blank would cost: 8*15*1800/5 = 43,200gp to cast it 1/day or 8*15*2000/2 = 120,000gp to have it continuous That's not too bad, just gotta remember to cast it each day when you get up :-) |
| dantedarkstar06-29-04, 08:31 AM | Yup. That's what my sorcerer always does (with spell, not item, it's a lot cheaper :) |
| [GSV] Kirstar06-29-04, 08:31 AM | mind blank is the one. |
| smrtgmp06-29-04, 08:35 AM | I realize it wont help much for a traveling adventurer, but all scying is blocked by a thin sheet of lead. This can be useful for hiding the location of important buildings and the like. |
| Nagol06-29-04, 10:31 AM | Don't forget this spell. It's lower level and protects the whole party while you rest. Mage’s Private Sanctum Abjuration Level: Sor/Wiz 5 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 10 minutes Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Area: 30-ft. cube/level (S) Duration: 24 hours (D) Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No This spell ensures privacy. Anyone looking into the area from outside sees only a dark, foggy mass. Darkvision cannot penetrate it. No sounds, no matter how loud, can escape the area, so nobody can eavesdrop from outside. Those inside can see out normally. Divination (scrying) spells cannot perceive anything within the area, and those within are immune to detect thoughts. The ward prevents speech between those inside and those outside (because it blocks sound), but it does not prevent other communication, such as a sending or message spell, or telepathic communication, such as that between a wizard and her familiar. The spell does not prevent creatures or objects from moving into and out of the area. Mage’s private sanctum can be made permanent with a permanency spell. Material Component: A thin sheet of lead, a piece of opaque glass, a wad of cotton or cloth, and powdered chrysolite. That was from the SRD. To find it in the PHB, replace 'Mage' with the name of a famous Wizard whose name starts with 'M'. |
