Dark Dreams
Edit: Enchantment
Level: Despair 7 (Custom clerical domain), Edit: Sor/Wiz 7
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Target: One Creature
Range: Unlimited.
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell may target anyone who sleeps and you have met personally. Whenever the target sleeps they are inflicted with terrible nightmares and must make a Will save every night. Successful saves indicate the target sleeps through the night but still has minor nightmares. Failure causes the target to wake up and not be able to sleep for another 10 hours (Sleep spells effect the creature normally, however the target gets a +5 circumstance bonus on the save and must attempt to resist.). Failure also causes the target to loose 1 point of temporary wisdom drain, stops any hit point gain for resting, and the target may not gain any new spells for the day. Edit: Characters who are reduced to 0 wisdom by this spell go insane and cannot sleep.
The nightmares bestowed by this spell cannot be dispelled, but they can be removed with a limited wish, miracle, remove curse or wish spell.

I am not sure about the spell school, it seems that a spell that causes nightmares would be illusion, but I treat it like a cure so it could be enchantment, and all the fear spells/bestow curse are necromancy for some reason.

Please critique.

I think the school should be enchantment, It isn't a spell that uses death of negative energy. So enchantment would be better IMO... The spell lvl may be to high, but I'm not entirly sure about that..

I agree, this should be enchantment. As for level, I am not sure either. Level 6 maybe? Also I would put this spell on the Wiz/Sor spell list.

Duration I have a problem with though. It should either be permanent of have a specific duration, otherwise with Instantanious the person will suffer from horrble nightmares for the rest of his/her life, or untill someone removes it.

The instantanious duration was added do a simple targeted dispell wouldn't get rid of the nightmares, hence the high level. The level may be a bit high but I want it to be a level 7 spell so It should get buffed somehow. I like the suggestion about adding it to the wizard list, any changes I make to the spell I will edit.

Or until the target goes insane. :looloo:

Or until the target goes insane. :looloo:I'm sorry, but I don't understand how you can cure this or cause this without leaving it as a spell effect. After all, you would think that if it was a simple instantaneous change (which would befit a Transmutation more than an enchantment) then it could be taken care of by non-magical healing. If it is a spell effect (which it should be) it can be dispelled by certain things, such as dispell curse. By the way, if this is a curse, then it is a magical effect (like an enchantment).

With all the questions of anti-magic fields going around: someone should be able to sleep in a antimagic field or in a dead magic zone under the influence of this spell. Otherwise it's overpowered ("I cast a spell that has no save that can't be removed! In X days you'll be insane! hehehehehehe").
