I would think there's a spell like this already, but I was thinking something along the lines of this: Force Dagger Evocation [Force] Level: Sor/Wiz 1 Components: V, S, F Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Personal Effect: You Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: Yes This spell brings into being a shimmering, dagger made from force into your hand. As a force effect, it can strike ethereal and incorporeal creatures. It deals 1d4+1 points of force damage on a successful melee touch attack, with a threat range of 19–20 and a critical multiplier of x2. The dagger cannot be attacked or harmed by physical attacks, but dispel magic, disintegrate, a sphere of annihilation, or a rod of cancellation affects it. If an attacked creature has spell resistance, the resistance is checked the first time the dagger strikes it. If the dagger is successfully resisted, the spell is dispelled. If not, the dagger has its normal full effect on that creature for the duration of the spell. Focus: A miniature platinum dagger worth 25 gp. |
| smrtgmp09-20-04, 03:43 AM | This seems like a very dangerous spell for your average wizard to cast, mostly since you have to close to melee range for it to be effective, and, unlike your average melee range spell, it cant be delivered via a spectral hand. I think it would be better if you bumped up the spell level and let the dagger attack by itself a la Mord's Sword. given the limited damage potential, I dont think it would be higher than 2nd level. |
| Harmor09-20-04, 03:54 AM | Believe it or not, but I don't want a floating weapon spell, ala like Spirtual Weapon. I happen to be a rogue/wizard and am looking for a weapon to by-pass DR because I only have a strength of 11. |
| smrtgmp09-20-04, 04:00 AM | Ahh, thats more understandable. Still, it would be cool to have a slightly higher level version that could attack on its own, especially if it didnt have to attack from your direction. That way it could help you set up flanking opportunities. Come to think of it, I think there is already a spell like that in one of the FR books. Its only 1st or 2nd level if I'm not mistaken. |

Admittedly the spell is rather weak. I'd up the level to 2nd and incorporate the below spell effect into the spell and maybe even slightly increase the damage of the dagger as your levels go up. Come to think of it, I think there is already a spell like that in one of the FR books. Its only 1st or 2nd level if I'm not mistaken.Perhaps you mean Shelgarn's persistent Blade (MoF p.117)? Nifty little spell for an Arcane Trickster. |

I dont have my books with me at the moment (they're in the other room and I'm feeling too gimpy to go get them). Couldnt remember the name. I love that spell. My (soon to be) Arcane Trickster has it prepared at all times. |
