My DM is letting me use the Bloodless template from Sword & Sorcery’s Creature Collection II, pp 218-220. The bloodless’s Mesmerizing Beauty ability “secondary effect” is the emotion (friendship) spell. However this is a 3.5 game and the emotion (friendship) spell no longer exists. Anyone got any ideas for a suitable replacement? If there is already one for 3.5 I missed it.

Note: Even if you have no idea what the Mesmerizing Beauty ability is, feel free to offer a suitable 3.5 spell replacement for the 3.0 spell emotion (friendship).

Thanks,

From 3.0 SRD
Emotion
Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Targets: All living creatures within a 15-ft. radius
Duration: Concentration
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes
This spell arouses a single emotion of the character's choice in the subjects. The character can choose any one of the following versions:
Friendship: The enchanted creatures react more positively toward others. Their attitude shifts to the next more favorable reaction (hostile to unfriendly, unfriendly to indifferent, indifferent to friendly, or friendly to helpful). Creatures involved in combat, however, continue to fight back normally. Emotion (friendship) dispels emotion (hate).

Do you think Calm Emotions would be a good substitute?

From 3.5 SRD
Calm Emotions
Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Brd 2, Clr 2, Law 2 Components: V, S, DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Area: Creatures in a 20-ft.-radius spread Duration: Concentration, up to 1 round/level (D) Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes
This spell calms agitated creatures. You have no control over the affected creatures, but calm emotions can stop raging creatures from fighting or joyous ones from reveling. Creatures so affected cannot take violent actions (although they can defend themselves) or do anything destructive. Any aggressive action against or damage dealt to a calmed creature immediately breaks the spell on all calmed creatures.
This spell automatically suppresses (but does not dispel) any morale bonuses granted by spells such as bless, good hope, and rage, as well as negating a bard’s ability to inspire courage or a barbarian’s rage ability. It also suppresses any fear effects and removes the confused condition from all targets. While the spell lasts, a suppressed spell or effect has no effect. When the calm emotions spell ends, the original spell or effect takes hold of the creature again, provided that its duration has not expired in the meantime.

why not just use the 3.0 SRD version of the spell that the ability is based upon... emotion was not removed from the game for balance reasons, but because the designers, in a misguided effort to cater to the younger, video game generation gamer decided that thier customer base was to stupid to understand the complexities of spells that could be used for multiple things in different situation. since the bloodless doesn;t actually cast a spell, but has a special ability that is simply worded like the spell that no longer exists there should not be a problem.

in any even I do not think that calm emotions is a good substitute, since the mesermizing beauty ability is supposed to make creatures like the bloodless better (and calm emotions would have the opposite effect is somebody already realy like the bloodless in question).

Thanks for the feedback I do appreciate it.

Okay I agree Calm Emotions might not be the best idea. What if you were forced to choose a 3.5 spell to sub in for 3.0 Emotion (friendship) what spell would you advise?

Thanks,
