3rd level shadow spells? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-02-04, 02:48 AM Does anyone know of any Illusion (Shadow) spells that are 3rd level? I'm trying to qualify for the Shadowcrafter PrC, and one of the requirements is a Shadow spell or 3rd level or higher. I didnt see any in the PHB. Too bad Phantom Steed isnt Illusion (Shadow) like it should be. Know where I can find one? Any WotC book will do. Thanks in advance.

09-02-04, 04:01 AM I just found the 3rd level spell Lesser Shadow Tentacle in the Lords of Darkness book. It has the shadow descriptor, but strangely enough its an abjuration spell. I've never heard of an Abjuration (Shadow) spell. Does anyone know if this is a typo?

09-03-04, 08:37 AM Personally, I just took Phantom Steed and called it Illusion [Shadow] (with GM's permission).

Of course, I also took Mage Armor and redefined it to be "a shifting mass of whirling shadowstuff"... same effect, Illusion (Shadow), but only a 50% chance to block incorporeal creatures.

09-03-04, 02:43 PM Well, another option is to ask the GM if you can just learn a Metamagic'd 1st or 2nd level shadow spell. Like an Enlarged Shadow Spray, or Extended Shadow Mask...

09-03-04, 02:50 PM Thats not a bad idea. And I agree about Phantom Steed (see my original post). Didnt it used to be Illusion? The whole "quasi-real" description is what makes me think it should be. I find it odd that the Shadowcrafter would have a 3rd level Illusion (shadow) spell as a requirement when they are practiacally non-existant in core materials. Maybe they really want you to have Shadow Cache. *shrugs*
