| TheDarkLord08-11-04, 11:18 PM | I was just rolling some random treasure (most of which i'm not putting in the game :D), and i rolled something i wasn't sure about. If you get 50 +1 arrows and have the enchantment be Spell storing, do all 50 Arrows have the Spellstoring quality on them? I was just curious, as I couldn't find anything to support either way. My players of course, want the Spellstoring to apply to all 50. So would it? |
| Seeker9508-11-04, 11:46 PM | Yes, it applies to all fifty. But I would require that each arrow be granted a spell separately. So while each can store a spell, it is going to take a helluva long time to get each of them loaded up with a spell... unless you burned a wand in the process! |

| DemonMonkeyBoy08-12-04, 04:49 AM | :b: How did you randomly roll a power for ammo on the melee weapons table?? For as I'm concerned you should not allow it, but it's your game. Consider a +1 spell storing arrow with a 5d6 shocking grasp. Spell Storing is basicaly ment to be used once per combat with Melee weapons. |
| DM Zoc08-12-04, 07:38 AM | The enchantment would affect the group of 50 as a whole; cast a spell into the quiver, if you will. Once any of them is destroyed, the entire enchantment is broken (well, except maybe the +1 part). It would be easier if it was a spell-detonation type effect. |
| The_Ditto08-12-04, 09:06 AM | this is where sorcerers come in really handy ... hehe |
| Tifus Artwin08-12-04, 10:48 AM | Very interesting, Id have to think about that one realy hard before alowing it, but like somone else said, how did you get a melee special property on a ammunition ??? Also, consider the AA great options for charaters that want to shoot spell empowered arrows at foes. The AA gets the special ability to imbue there arrows, so i dont think it would be totaly out of the question for someone else to get arrows that can be imbued as well. |
| Phrennzy08-12-04, 11:10 AM | Spell Storing: A spell storing weapon allows a spellcaster to store a single targeted spell of up to 3rd level in the weapon. (The spell must have a casting time of 1 standard action.) Any time the weapon strikes a creature and the creature takes damage from it, the weapon can immediately cast the spell on that creature as a free action if the wielder desires. (This special ability is an exception to the general rule that casting a spell from an item takes at least as long as casting that spell normally.) Once the spell has been cast from the weapon, a spellcaster can cast any other targeted spell of up to 3rd level into it. While I would think long and hard about letting it go - specifically since it is not included in the ranged weapons magical enchantments - you might allow it, as long as the spell is cast as the lowest caster level needed - so no 5d6 shocking grasp, the max would be 1d6. But you will get arrows of hold person, enfeeblement, and the like. Of course, the spell storing is lost when the arrow is destroyed on impact, so maybe it isn't that bad. You might allow it but treat it as a +3 modifier, simply becuase of the number of different effects the weapon can have. |
| tarkin08-12-04, 11:20 AM | 1) Spell storing is not on the list approved for ranged weapons. That is NOT just a random list, it the list of enchantments allowed on ranged weapons. 2) Spell storing is one of the perfect best examples of why NOT to break this rule. You want abuses? Here is a major one (I saw a DM allow this crap in a game I played in back in 2nd edition): Make arrows of spell storing. Put the spell Vampiric Touch in them. The cost is 1 magic weapon, (2,300 gp) You effectively have 50 scrolls of vampiric touch ... with the feat Reach on it (as it is now has range)... quickened (you can use multiple times per round - upto 5 with Rapid Shot)... Which you give to your friends. So now you have 50 potions of 3rd level spells with a free metamagic feat Reach. for 2,300 gp. It really does not matter if the archer or the caster gets the healing. If your DM says no one gets the healing, make it a Fireball spell instead of Vampiric Touch, it is only slightly less abusive. Only a true munchkin herder would allow this. Spell storing is NOT allowed with ranged weapons. |
| Seeker9508-12-04, 12:07 PM | With the note that this enhancement ability does not appear on the ranged table, I rescind my earlier assessment. Forget how it would work. It just wouldn't. |
| TheDarkLord08-12-04, 06:10 PM | Oops, your right, it's not a ranged enhancement.. i have no idea how I looked at that wrong. Thanks for the clarification. |
