Ok I seem to remember reading in a book some time ago about non spell casters beeing capable of creating a magic item. I have spent the last sevrel hours looking for this ability and the closest thing I can come up with is the Legandary items. What I'm looking for is a set of rules to create items like Bruenor created Wolfgars hammer. I just cant remember where it is. It may be in a book I no longer have or in some other place. Can anyone help me? Other wise I will have to create a whole new set of rules to do this.

Thanks in advance

By "Legendary" do you mean a weapon of legacy? That's the only way I know of.

Oh, I guess the Kensai and 3.0 Samurai ability to enchant their weapons would work too.

Other than founding a Legacy (as mentioned above), or being an artificer or warlock, you have to be a spellcaster to create a magic weapon or other magic item.

The DMG2 has bonded magic items pg231, and its not clear how much of an enhancement you can put on it, but as a house rule we don't allow that benefit to exceed a +1 enhancement, otherwise clever players would stack the +10 limit with a +10 bonded item which is ridiculous cept for epic lv characters...

check it out :P

Risner just because you dont know what they are doesnt mean someone else wont. But thank you for responding. Bruenor is the dwarven companion of Drizzt the drow ranger and Wolfgar is the barbarian companion of Drizzt. I highly recomend the books by R.A. Salvatore. Start with the Dark elf trilogy then follow up with the Icewind dale trilogy. That is where you will discover who the characters are. Then if you still dont know who the characters are well then I cant help you.

ur very welcome, glad to be of help.

I'm just wondering about your further opinions tho... the DMG2 states that for example you can make a +1 weapon "at the same cost it would for a a normal +1 weapon, with the bonders xp".

it kind of infers that the making of such a "bonded weapon" is distinct from an actual magic weapon. E.g. it gives a specific example of a +3 longsword being made into a +3 flaming sword.

Does this mean that it costs for "bonding" is the normal +4 total to add a flaming bonus from +3 to +4?

NORMAL STACKING COST
+3 longsword (18000gp)
+3 longsword, +1 flaming (32000gp +4TOTAL)
[14000gp for the bonding of a +3 weapon to +4]

as opposed to just adding another +1 benefit
SIDE ADDITION COST
+3 longsword (18000gp)
+1 flaming (18000)8000gp
which costs 26000gp-TOTAL

in other words does the bond add to the already of a magic item or not. It appears as though the book is saying not, but if it is, this is too much of a tweak because a character can have one +10 weapon, +10 bonded... even though making the ritual and such could make it very tough, its feasibility is something I'm uncomfortable with.

making it only 1 bonded at a time is well limiting, but i think bonded should either be stacking with the already made benefits, or if it is the separate be limited to a +1 or +2 bonus... whats your opinion ppl?

Aducating the results should always be left up to the DM. It is his chiose in the end that will ultamitly affectl the game balance. if a rule is unclear thats the best way to go. I will judge in favor of following the gp value closest to the pc limit for the level based on how much treasure the pc already had. its a grey area and I will try to keep things balanced. but also remember that this item will ne normal to any one else.

Personal Observation: Enhancements for bonded items and enhancements from magic should stack, but not be able to exceed a +10 total for non-epic items (and creators).

Alternatively, if they don't stack, to make a magical +3 longsword into a +3 flaming longsword with the bonded items rules, you would have to pay the bonding cost of +4. This method has its difficulties, however, if you have a magical enhancement of +9 flaming and bonded enhancement of +9 keen or some other such: do you lose a bonus and keep keen and flaming, or get the +9 and keen and flaming (which leads to some broken items for not being epic). Long term, this alternative doesn't seem to be a good one, and I recommend going with my personal observation, above.

What is a Legacy item and where can i find more information on them?

ya... i agree that it should stack because the alternative is too good to be true. This simply means though that the bonding item idea is only most useful to LV 3 characters that don't yet have access to Craft Magic Arms and Armor. Still I guess its better than nothing
