What could one do with it?:P Anything. Really. Any idea that involves sight and sound will work. A rushing monster, a beckoning friend, a rock image over an injured companion, an imaginary wall over a door, the corresponding illusionary door on a blank wall, creating and slaying a bystander to appear powerful, fanservice, explaining a plan in detail with a map image, amusing your friends, embarrassing your foes, just looking spiffy, contingency plans when you can't find a date, disguise, misdirection, confusion, and sometimes to just making something shiny. The limits of illusions are your imagination and the spell's area. One of those is far more important. |
| Vengeblade09-29-06, 09:37 PM | It could be used for protection. Cast it when you're walking down the street by yourself and suddenly you've got an armored friend. NO half-wit thief would want to try taking you down then. |

Note that Major image lets you move the whole illusion anywhere within range, so you can create an illusion of a dragon and have it dive bomb a crowd. Not so with silen image or minor image. |

You'll make the bad guys waste their time either running around the obstacle or interacting with it (so they get a saving throw), giving your team more time to prepare. It could also be used in conjunction with a good Bluff score, like "Okay, I'm through messing around. I'm summoning those monsters again. Attack pattern alpha!" Then you use a Minor Image to "summon" some intimidating critters. |
| Yamu09-30-06, 11:12 AM | I find it's usually a lot more useful in conjunction with Knowledge (Local) or Gather Information checks than it is on it's own. For instance, let's say that you happen to know that the locals are superstitious about a beautiful sorceress who once drowned in their lake. What better way to deter pursuers than to have them get a look at her ghost through the thicket? This is even more delicious if you can swing the scenario so that your party's shifty rogue-type is the one who starts the story about the sorceress. In fact, I'd say that's probably my favorite thing about the spell: it gives you the power to create prophecies, incite fears, promise miracles, level accusations-- and then make it all "come true," at least for as long as it takes for you to work your ends and then get out of dodge. Remember: commoners are your friends, because commoners are stupid. NOTHING swings a crowd better than a well-used illuision. |
