Does anyone else think the Globe of Invunrability and Lesser Globe are unbalenced ?

wizard.... umm I caset lesser globe of invunrability.

DM.... OK that was your only 4th level spell. You have created a globe of 10' radius that spells of 3rd level or less are unable to pass into.......

Wizard.... So that big bad guy over ther with the wand of freballs and no spells over 3rd level left cant actually hurt me....

DM... nope, not unless he gets within 10' of you....

Wizard.... So if there were 500 mages over there with wand of fireballs I would still be immune.

DM.... Well. Yep. But they can throw stonbes at you, or shoot you with crossbows.........

Wizard.... But they are spell casters. Im only one level higher than them and now im immune.

DM.... Yep. BTW thats th elast time your casting that spell. Its now gone the way of chromatic orb, missile of stunning, and every other stupid spell out there. Its been restricted.

It's not that bad, because the globe is immobile. If you have to move away, you've just left your protection behind.

its not immobile. its centered on caster

in its desription it doesnt state that....

taken from the online SRD from wizards....

Globe of Invulnerability, Lesser
Abjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 10 ft.
Area: 10-ft.-radius spherical emanation, centered on you
Duration: 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
An immobile, faintly shimmering magical sphere surrounds you and excludes all spell effects of 3rd level or lower. The area or effect of any such spells does not include the area of the lesser globe of invulnerability. Such spells fail to affect any target located within the globe. Excluded effects include spell-like abilities and spells or spell-like effects from items. However, any type of spell can be cast through or out of the magical globe. Spells of 4th level and higher are not affected by the globe, nor are spells already in effect when the globe is cast. The globe can be brought down by a targeted dispel magic spell, but not by an area dispel magic. You can leave and return to the globe without penalty.
Note that spell effects are not disrupted unless their effects enter the globe, and even then they are merely suppressed, not dispelled.
If a given spell has more than one level depending on which character class is casting it, use the level appropriate to the caster to determine whether lesser globe of invulnerability stops it.
Material Component: A glass or crystal bead that shatters at the expiration of the spell.

Try reading the second word of the description. Reread it if necessary. *Wipes tears from eyes* I'm sorry, I couldn't resist!

Yeah for 1 round/level. Hardly overpowered.

No its definitely not overpowered.

Its immobile so you have to stay put, this means that any melee enemies will have an easier time if you need the globe to stop the enemy spellcasters killing you. It also means that your low level protective spells such as Mage Armour and Shield will only work if you cast them before the globe, so you may have to survive one or more rounds before the globe goes up.

Its short duration, 1 round/level doesn't give you much time to work with. It can be dispelled which starts being an issue before you get high enough level for this spell.

It only blocks spells up to 3rd level, this means that Globe of Invulnerability does have its glory days. However after even a few levels you will start to fight casters whose primary attack spells are 4th or higher in which case you have probably wasted a 4th level spell slot, and an action in combat, which is doubly bad.

Yes if you are facing a group of 1st to 6th level enemy Wizards it is a wonderful spell to have. Once you start facing 7th+ level enemy casters it becomes a spell that is rarely useful. Enemy casters rarely blow through all their high level offensive spells to the amount that they have to start using 2nd and 3rd level spells with any regularity.

500 Mages with Wands of Fireball and not one of them prepared a Dispel Magic....only Red Wizards could be that stupid.

lol

I was ripping the mick just a bit I admit.

I know the weaknesses

10'r so you can walk in through the effect.

it can be dispelled

it only lasts a round per level.

BUt that is 7 rounds that you are immune to the most common offensive spells
