this is 3.5

1. I believe I read somewhere that other people can contribute spells to a magic item. That is, if the cleric has craft wand, the wizard can help him create a wand of fireballs, but the cleric has to pay the xp cost. If this is right, can someone point me to where it says this.
And if it's right, can someone also contribute feats, like the metamagic feats needed to craft rods of metamagic?

2. I also believe I read somewhere that the CL requirements of magic items aren't really needed. Is this correct? It is after all kind of silly that all the items with progressive power (metamagic rods etc.) should all have the same caster lvl.
Again, I'd apreciate a reference.

1. This is not a 3.5 rule. I think it may be in Tome & Blood, and most DMs that I know allow multiple characters to create an item together. However, here are a few guidelines to follow:

The item creator (the one with the Feat) has to have a CL at least as high as the highest spell / feature going into the item, because the whole item must be crafted at the same CL.

While Metamagic can be applied to spells going into an item, the Metamagic Feat and the spell being meta'd must come from the same caster. I cannot apply my Maximize Spell to your fireball.

Neither of these is found in the core rules nor in the FAQ or Errata.

2. I suspect you will not be able to find any reference to this rumor. CL is necessary for every magic item because it determines the Saving Throw of the item. The CL can vary from item to item, as some items may desire higher saving throws, longer ranges, greater effects, etc.

1. Yes, it is clear that if I wanted a maximized fireball in the item, the same person must have the feat and the spell. But with metamagic rods the only prereq. is the feat.
If I was a character with craft rod, but not the maximize spell feat create a rod of maximize spell if a wizard friend of mine had the maximize spell feat?

FROM THE SRD 3.5:
It is possible for more than one character to cooperate in the creation of an item, with each participant providing one or more of the prerequisites. In some cases, cooperation may even be necessary.
If two or more characters cooperate to create an item, they must agree among themselves who will be considered the creator for the purpose of determinations where the creator's level must be known. The character designated as the creator pays the XP required to make the item.

There's your answer.
