| eliranar08-10-05, 10:39 PM | hi i'm a new DM and i have a couple questions 1. how many rings can a character use at the same time (all of the rings have an effect on the character)? 2. if someone pours a potion into an unconscious character does the potion takes effect? thanks |
| Lord shadow3508-10-05, 10:41 PM | 1. The character can use 2 rings at the same time. Unless he is epic and has a certian feat. 2. Yes |
| thedmstrikes08-11-05, 01:31 AM | as to question number one, while a character can wear two rings and receive their benefits at the same time, they can actually only activate one at a time. Most rings are command word items and require a standard action to activate. But most of the time, they can be activated, say, everytime the character wakes up in the morning, or even less frequently than that. But there are a few, such as a ring of shooting stars, that will be used over and over again at times as its effects only last for that one standard action. There are even some that are reactive in nature, such as the ring of swimming that activates as soon as the character puts it on and its magic is "active" the entire time, whether the character needs it or not. Check the rings' descriptions. They will clue you into how the ring activates. As to question number two, good answer! hope this helps! :D |

Rings are spell triggering items and require a standard action to activate. Where the heck did you get that idea? A ring of protection (as an example) is most certainly not a Spell Trigger item. Neither is a ring of sustenance. If they were, fighters couldn't use them - since Spell Trigger items require the spell to be on your class spell list to use them. To the original poster... if somebody is willing to use the necklace slot, they can use a third ring by wearing a hand of glory. Otherwise, only two can be used. |
| Seeker9508-11-05, 07:31 PM | My sorcerer has ten rings, one on each finger, and each of them is always on. However... Only two of them are made with "craft ring" pricing, rules and guidelines. The rest are unslotted pieces of jewelry that cost the same as if they were stones of doing magic function X. :P |
| thedmstrikes08-12-05, 01:41 AM | I have corrected my previous post as pointed out by Zherog. It appears I am still human after all.... the other rings he mentioned fall into the last category I mentioned in that post, the ones that "activate" once they are placed on a finger. And Seeker95 reminded me that while only two are active (under normal circumstances) you could have more than two on your fingers at once. the extra ones are simply inert until an active ring is turned off or removed. Then, another ring could be activated in its place. |

Whether your DM allows it or not, your DM is right. |
